  • What can I do with this giant pile of limestone in my yard?

Recently, we installed a new septic tank in our yard. To cut costs, we told the installer to leave all the refuse and we will deal with it. Given that limestone bedrock was only a couple feet down, we are left with a huge pile of rock varying in size and shape, but mostly round. I want to use it somewhere outside, but its not well suited for stacking. What are your thoughts on how to use this stone in my yard?

  • Do we receive solar insolation at night when the the moon is visible because it has a high albedo?

I recently got into a discussion about this with my professor and an agreement couldn't be made. The reason this came up was he said that the earth does not receive solar insolation at night. His definition of solar insolation was the amount of solar radiation that hits the earth in a given area. I argued that we do receive solar insolation at night because the moon receives it and because of its high albedo, reflects it back to the earth, even if it's a minute amount. This is why we can see the moon at night. He said that's not solar insulation because it is not all of the sun's wavelengths and this can be seen when insolation occurs during the day and the earth emits the radiation in longer wavelengths. I argue that the earth emits longer wavelengths because some solar radiation is absorbed by the electrons in the earth's surface and emits its own spectra in the form of infrared radiation. I furthered by saying that's not the same as the moon reflecting the sun's light because albedo is a reflection and not a re-emission so the wavelengths should be similar. I also stressed the point that not even the earth receives all wavelengths from the sun as some UV is reflected off the ozone layer and magnetosphere. So my question is, "Does solar insolation reach the earth's surface at night from the moon reflecting the sun's radiation back to earth because of its high albedo?"

  • Will the universe ultimately become a singularity even if the galaxies are racing away from each other?

I may be combining theories on the universe but am not sure. I have heard that if you were to try to go to the edge of the universe (if time and distance wasn't a problem) you would ultimately end up where you began. The example being traveling a straight line on earth would bring you back to where you started.

I have also heard that from our understanding of the red shift, we know that not only are galaxies racing away from one another, but they are picking up speed as they do so.

We also know that at least 98% of all matter came to be from the singularity before the "big bang".

So my question is "Since all of the matter that created the galaxies came from a single point and has traveled outward ever since and if you travel fast enough to get to the edge of the universe you will end up where you started, will the galaxies ultimately reach the edge and wind up back together and form another singularity from the massive gravitational forces of the billions of galaxies in close proximity to each other?"

  • When are my chili peppers ready to pick?

I have grown some chili peppers this year and was wondering when they are ready to pick. The reason I ask is because the last crop, which I thought was ready, had the heat of a green pepper. When I picked them, they were very big (about 6-8" long), but light green.

The ones still on my plant are huge (8-10" long!), but light green like the previous crop. I just don't want to pick them if they have no heat.

I'm not sure the species of the plants in question, but my other plant of a different species are dark green as soon as they fruit and have the heat one would think a chili pepper should have.

  • Troy-Bilt Lawn Mower Will Not Run Unless On Full Choke?

I have a Troy-Bilt 11a542q711 push lawn mower that will not run unless the choke is on. Of course, it's the first try to start this season and I have never had any problems with it until now. I put fresh gas in the tank; checked the fuel filter; checked the fuel lines; replaced the air filter and spark plug; disassembled the carburetor and cleaned all the parts including the jets. With all this, it will start on the first pull when the choke is engaged, but as soon as I open the choke, it dies. I have run out of ideas. Hopefully, someone on here has dealt with a similar problem and would like to share the knowledge.

  • How do I connect 2 routers through one modem?

My Xbox keeps on disconnecting every 10-30 mins on my wireless router 1(Xbox hardwired). I have another wireless router 2 that is much slower and not being used, but causes no Xbox problems. So I am trying to have a setup in which the Xbox is wired to router 2, which is wired to the modem. For router 1 (which I will use as my wireless connections for computer, phone, etc...), I want it hard wired to router 2, which is wired to the modem. So generally speaking, I want router 2 to be used as a ethernet hub for me to connect my Xbox and wireless router to. Does anyone know how to set this up both through the router settings as well as how to wire it all together? Thanks for the help.

  • How to fix 4x4 fence posts that builders put in crooked and with little or no cement?

I'm trying to put in a gate at my apartment complex and found that the people who built the gate put little or no cement in when they installed the 4x4 posts. The entire fence moves with the push of a finger and is less than 4 months old. I know if I build the gate, the extra strain on the 4x4's will put everything out of whack. What would be the best, quick, and cheapest way to fix this problem created by shotty workmanship? I know the right way (but the most expensive and time consuming to fix this) would be tearing down the section and properly filling the post holes with concrete. I also thought of digging around the posts a little further out and filling this with cement. What do you guys think? Do you have anymore suggestions? Also, contacting the original builders is out of the question. Thanks

  • Should I have to pay to replace all of the carpet in a rental home when just the living room was damaged?

I have recently moved out of a rental house after 3 years and was wondering about my security deposit and pet deposit. For any clarification needed, my dogs are housebroken and have done nothing to the house but sleep in it. The landlord said that the carpet had to be replaced mainly because the house smelled like dog and there was a large stain in the living room. When I left the house, I vacuumed the carpet 3 times and shampooed them as well. The only thing that didn't come out was a stain in the living room. The stain is fairly light as well, but I would understand replacing that piece of carpet. Also, no one in my three years at the place told me it smelled bad. The landlord also knew there was going to be dogs there as well. Doesn't that mean that he should have realized it might have a scent of dogs after 3 years of habitation? He wants to replace all of the carpet (2 bedrooms, a backroom, and the living room) and charge me for a larger portion than it would be just to replace the living room carpet. So my question is, does he have the right to do this? This problem comes from Austin, Texas if that makes a difference in laws. Thanks in advance for any help.

Does anyone have any information or know where to find information about early nineteenth century recipes for a formal dinner in Texas? I am trying to recreate a dinner that Sam Houston attended in Austin, TX. The family that hosted the dinner were upper middle class and moved to Texas from North Carolina around 1837-1845. Mainly what would have been served? or what recipes were common in nineteenth century Texas or North Carolina?

  • What are some common features surrounding an early 19th century home?

I'm trying to do some research on a "Dogtrot" style four room home (not a cabin) that was built around 1830's-40's in Austin, TX. The original home property sat on a 50 acre tract of land (some farmland). The main part of my research has to do with the original surrounding features near the home and where they would most likely be be located. Examples of the features would be cisterns, outdoor kitchens, barns, privies, wells, slave quarters, etc... Is there a website online or reference book that you know of that would give the statistical probable location of these features in respect to the house? Do you know of anywhere I could find archaeological site surveys of that period of home with its surrounding features? Some more possibly relevant information is the original family settled in Austin around the same time the house was built and came from North Carolina. Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • Why is there specific steps in using jumper cables?

When jumping a car with jumper cables, why must you attach the cables in a specific order and take them off in the opposite? Also, I know you are supposed to attach the negative clamp to the body of the dead car and the negative clamp to the negative terminal of the live car. Why do you have to do this? I have seen many people attach the jumper cables in random order and attach both negative clamps to their respecting terminals without any problems. In fact, I have only seen just a few people do it correctly. What's the danger and why?

  • Does anyone know what painting this is?

I have the image of a painting (maybe it's an illuminated illustration) in my head, but can't find it. It is an old painting of hell where the main focus of the picture is of a demon (possibly Beelzebub) and I think it is eating a human. The feeling you get from it is of a very cold hell without light, instead the normal fire hell. I believe the demon is fairly large, either dark blue or black, and has horns and hooves. And no, it's not the painting of Jupiter eating a human. If you know this painting, do you possibly know of a good website that I could view it in a decent resolution? Thanks for your replies!

  • Is my belief that humans are rational beings and generally good just wishful thinking?

I do not need a religion to tell me what to believe in, as my overall morality is found in rationality. As the world is going to sh**, I find it harder and harder to believe that most people have personal beliefs that humans are good and wish to further all creatures time on earth. Are we rational? Are we a united group? Or are we a bunch of individuals? Do we want to perpetuate the species? Or do we just not care?

I just want to see if anyone out there is frightful of the future of our species (Not talking about supernatural destruction, but real stuff). If so, what do you plan to do about it? Passing it on to future generations shouldn't be an option.

  • Women Only!! My girlfriend asked me to pick out some lingerie for her and I have no idea..?

Well, she asked me to pick out some lingerie for her and I have never bought any before. This makes it kinda hard, as she didn't give me any hints on what she wants or what she is comfortable in. Here is some info that might help you, help me. Her personality is not shy out in public, but she is shy inside the bedroom. She listens to metal and rock and is a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl. She is plus sized and Latin, with straight dark brown hair. What really makes this hard is that I have never seen her in a dress, so I have no idea what she looks like in anything really feminine. If you could give me an idea on 1. a place to look at online 2. what type of lingerie would fit/accentuate her body style/personality 3. what colors usually go good with the woman I described above. Thanks for any help. I need it!

  • Could someone please help me?

Trying to make it short. So I have dated this girl of and on for more than 3 years. I never told her I loved her until about a week ago. I know it took a long time but that word means so much to me. Two days ago she came over and broke it off. She said we were just at two different parts in our life. As she left things got incredibly emotional and she told me she loved me right at our final kiss goodbye. I can't understand why. The first time we both told one another that we loved each other face to face was at the end. If she didn't say that I could have walked away knowing it wasn't meant to be. Now I won't ever be able to. Why the hell did she tell me that?

  • Gravitational force in comparison of planets?

Jupiter is about 5 times farther from the Sun than the Earth is, and has about 300 times the mass of the Earth. Compare the gravitational force between Jupiter and the Sun to the gravitational forcew between Earth and the Sun.

I got Jupiter has 60x greater the gravitational force than earth does on the sun. Is this correct?

  • Am I Wrong For Being Pissed About This?

I just found out that my girlfriends ex slept over at her house a couple of weeks ago. I found out totally by chance. Her story is that he moved out of town and needed a place to stay one night. She said that he got a cab from a bar and got to her place late at night and was drunk. She did say he made advances on her but she didn't do anything. She was afraid to tell me because she thought I would get upset. Of course i'm upset. Not because of the issue of trusting her but because she didn't tell me. Now I do fear what happened because you only hide stuff like that because it's wrong and you know you shouldn't be doing it. Don't I have a reason to be upset?

Please give me some advice because I can't think rationally.
