I am a liberal about most issues... I think our taxes should go toward social reform and new, cleaner energy sources rather than war. I am a microbiology student and a mother of soon-to-be two. I have a wonderful husband whose conservative beliefs don't stop us from having a beautiful marriage. We are a military family as well, which magnifies my wish for the end of war. (my husband is soon to be deployed). Peace, wisdom, and hilarity to all.

  • Why would my blueberry and Blackberry bushes both die over the winter?

For some reason they aren't coming back this spring. They are right next to each other in the garden, I have about 8 blueberry bushes, and a bramble (though thornless). I went out to see how they were leafing out, so I could fertilize appropriately, and all but one of my blueberries are dead, and my black berry only has one spoke that is alive. Any ideas? We had a mild winter, I didn't add anything but for some coffee grounds. The chickens were in there over the winter, as I use them to "clean up" and tractor the area. Help!

  • Truck not starting question...Mazda B2200?

My husband has this truck that he is unwilling to let die. The problem right now is that we though it was a battery issue (we had a parasitic draw problem--most likely due to a negative ground wire not being grounded) we bought a new battery-the battery is brand spanking' and now the truck won't even light up (dash lights, horn etc.) We have been able to push start it (it is a manual transmilssion) but, the diagnostic software (I think is a bunch of baloney) says it is the battery which I know it is not. I asked a similar question before about this truck, but could anyone verify that this sounds like an ignition switch/starter relay for my husband's peace of mind. Would that problem cause there to be absolutely no power to the dash? Help!

  • Nasty smell coming out of my AC/Heat vent in my house?

There is a chemical-ish, kinda animal urine like, rancid-y, and near burnt-ish smell coming out of my Air conditioning vents when it is on; it used to be very faint(sometimes I thought I was crazy) but lately it has been getting stronger (with the summer heat, I suspect)....any ideas?

  • Where was our Commander in Chief?

The Center for the Intrepid was officially opened yesterday, with headlining politicians Hillary Clinton and Sen. John McCain in attendance. Also showing support for the more than 18,000 troops injured as a result of the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq (as well as thousands others injured in various conflicts previous) were John Mellencamp, Cher, Rosie O'Donnell, Denzel Washington, Michelle Pfeiffer, music group Big & Rich, as well as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of staff- General Peter Pace....But where, oh where, was our President...or even Vice President, whom are ultimately responsible for our boys being in this lifelong predicament--who gave very near the ultimate sacrifice for our country at the behest of our Commander in Chief. Very notably absent....any explanations?

  • Too much O'reilly Factor......?

I recently read this excerpt from Media Matters, a media watchdog Organization... I would like your feedback:

During the May 23 edition of Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor, Bill O'Reilly asserted that "[m]any Americans ages 18 to 24 have no idea what's going on," stating that they "get their news from [Comedy Central host] Jon Stewart and their point of view from bomb-throwing entertainers." In fact, studies have shown that viewers of Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart are consistently better informed about current events than consumers of other media, and Daily Show viewers are considerably better educated than viewers of The O'Reilly Factor. Further, consumers of Fox News in general have been found to be significantly more misinformed about current events than consumers of other mainstream media.

During the June 14 edition of his nationally syndicated radio show, Bill O'Reilly again baselessly attacked viewers of Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, calling them "dopey college kids" who must be "stoned" to watch the program. In fact, as Media Matters for America has previously noted, a study by the Annenberg Public Policy Center indicates that Daily Show viewers are consistently better informed about current events than consumers of other media, while Nielsen Media Research statistics demonstrate that Daily Show viewers are more educated and affluent than the viewers of Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor.

Responding to a segment on the June 13 broadcast of The Daily Show during which host Jon Stewart satirized O'Reilly's recent trip to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, O'Reilly suggested that Abu Bakar Bashir -- the extremist religious leader recently released from prison where he was serving time for his role in the 2002 Bali terrorist attacks -- could "bunk with" Stewart "when he comes to the USA." O'Reilly then characterized his own "program" as "serious" -- as opposed to Stewart's "comedy show" -- and asserted that while being "a smart guy," Stewart has taken to pandering to the "[d]opey college kids" who "are gonna watch him."

  • Why is it that we can't learn from our mistakes?

When the market reaches seemingly inexorable highs...everyone rejoices, however this is not necessarily a good thing.

  • How many have listened to a speech by Sen. Barack Obama?

Everytime I have listened to speaking appointments, I am amazed that we haven't elected someone as empathetic, for the people, and genuine as him into office sooner. My question is: How many of you would support Barack Obama if he were to be the Democratic nominee to the presidency in '08?

  • Who is surprised by Mark Foley pointing the finger at a priest?

Mark Foley has accused a priest of sexually abusing him when he was a teenager. Since it has been documented fact that sexual abuse and specifically pedophilia is a repeated cycle, do you accept this projection of blame (i.e. that it is ultimately the priest's fault as well) or do you think Foley should accept the responsiblity for his wrongdoing (sole responsibility)?

Do you believe he is trying to mitigate his own guilt?
