Years before The Big Bang Theory there was another TV show about a cute girl and some nerds. Does anyone remember the name of the show?
I think it was set in an IT department, but I could be wrong.

I just picked up a copy of an old 3DO game, Army Men World War. I have tried to play the single player campaign game. However there appears to be a glitch with the first mission. I can reach the radar station I am supposed to destroy, but I have no way to destroy it
Am I missing something obvious?

5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoHow do I make roses wilt or shrivel?
There is plenty of advice on the web on how to revive wilted roses. I want the opposite. I want to take beautiful roses and make them wilt. And, I hope, discolor a bit. (Think of them as symbols of love gone bad. Don't worry. I will not be giving them to a present or past girlfriend or wife.) Is there any way to accelerate wilting or do I just need to buy my roses early and wait for them to wilt naturally?
4 AnswersGarden & Landscape8 years agoMathematical valentine?
A lady posted a request yesteday for a "problem generator". No such thing exists, so humans will have to step up to the plate.
She needs mathematical exercises with specific integer answers for use in a mathematical valentine surprise she is planning for her math geek bf.
She needs the following:
11 problems that equal 1
7 problems that equal 4
5 problems that equal 5
4 problems that equal 6
15 problems that equal 7
5 problems that equal 8
and an astounding 42 problems that equal 0
I have come up with the following as a start. Let's help her out.
e^(i*pi) + 1 = 0. (This is prettier when written out the usual way with i and the pi symbol juxtaposed as a superscript to the e. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euler%27s_i%E2%80%A6 )

1 AnswerMathematics8 years agoWhen did the confusing term "vertex" replace apex?
When I studied geometry back in the stone age, the vertex opposite an isoceles triangle's base was called the apex. The associated angle was the apex angle. Now the term "apex" appears to have been supplanted by "vertex", which is durned confusing. An isoceles triangle has 3 edges, 3 vertices and 1 vertex?
When was "apex" replaced by "vertex"? Was it deliberate or did someone confuse the two words?

1 AnswerWords & Wordplay9 years agoHow did the Romans repel vampires?
The cross is the standard way of repelling vampires. The cross had no religious signicance before the crucifixion of Jesus in 33 CE. So what did people use to repel vampires before then? The Romans invaded what is modern transylvania. How did the legions deal with vampires?
8 AnswersMythology & Folklore9 years agoHow are students finishing high school without even rudimentary math skills?
A common question in the tax section of Y!A asks for help calculating the sales tax on a given purchase price for a given tax rate. All that is required is multiplication of a money amount, almost always less than $1000, by a percentage. In my day, any 6th grader would be able to do the math by hand. The people asking the questions have access to a calculator, so they don't even have to do the actual calculation. They only have to know which numbers to enter into the calculator and which operations key to hit. Yet, they cannot do even that. Are the schools cranking out a generation of innumerates?
1 AnswerPrimary & Secondary Education9 years agoWhy do women have orgasms?
In a throw away line in an answer to another question someone opined that orgasms in women serve no purpose and exist only because the genes that give rise to the female orgasm are the same ones that give rise to the male orgasm. If one were eliminated due to mutation, the other would be as well.
Is that so? And if it is, why is the clitoris located to get maximum stimulation during the standard mammalian sexual position?

The only example of his so-called wisdom is the case of the baby and the two would be mothers. One of the claimants was clearly mentally ill. She was ready to settle for half a baby. Is being smarter than a deranged person Solomon's claim to fame?
7 AnswersMythology & Folklore9 years agoWhy do I repel mosquitoes?
I live in Houston and mosquitoes are a big problem for most people here. As a child i was bitten as often as anyone, but I have noticed lately that mosquitoes don't bother me at all. Other people can be complaining about the swarms of mosquitoes attacking them and I'm not aware of the the little buggers at all. I had attributed my good fortune to my diet. I'm an ovo-lacto vegetarian and get plenty of vitamin B-1 and B-6, both of which are reputed to repel mosquitoes. However, recent studies involving B vitamin supplents seem to indicate that high doses of B vitamins are not that effective as mosquito repellants. Additionally, a vegan friend of mine is plagued by mosquitoes as much as any of the omnivores in our circle. So why don't mosquitoes like me?
5 AnswersZoology9 years agoCan a tan make your offspring darker?
It has been reasonably well resolved that genetic mutation in somatic DNA will have no effect on the melanin content in one's offspring. However, does tanning cause the placement of epigenetic markers that could be passed on to one's offspring, resulting in an inherited tan?

3 AnswersMathematics9 years agoHow much epazote is too much? I am eating about a cup of minced epazote a day. Am I going to drop dead soon?
Various sources give dire warnings about overdosing on epazote, but none makes even a token attempt to specify what constitutes an overdose. I was recently afflicted with a condition that causes an overproduction of gastro-intestinal gas, an extremely painful condition. Minced epazote leaves in my diet helps to control the gas. The herb has a strong smell, similar to that of turpentine, so it's not surprising to learn that too much can be fatal. But how much is too much?
1 AnswerCooking & Recipes1 decade agoI need the source to resolve conflicting information about the qualifying relative rules.?
In general, if a child is the qualifying child (QC) of a taxpayer, he cannot be the qualifying relative (QR) of any taxpayer. Publication 501 for 2007 states, as an exception to that rule, that if the taxpayer for whom the child would otherwise be a QC has no filing requirement and does not file, or files only to claim a refund of withholding credits, then the child is not that taxpayer's QC for purposes of the QR rules.
The instructions to Form 1040 do not contain that exception. Publication 17 does not contain that exception. Previous revisions of Publication 501 did not contain that exception. IRC §152 as reproduced on Lexis, does not contain that exception. Where did that exception come from and why are IRS pubs and forms inconsistent concerning it?
2 AnswersUnited States1 decade agoA motor driving a fan and a lamp are connected in series. If the fan is removed, the lamp dims. Why?
My nephew has one of those electronics kits consisting of some electronic components and a project book. The book suggests circuits to create using the kit and makes some obvious observation such as "When you closed the switch, the current flowed, lighting the lamp."
One project consists of a battery, a switch, a lamp and a motor which drives an axle on the end of which can be placed a fan. The project instructions call for the circuit to be closed with the fan in place and with the motor without the fan. In the latter case, the lamp is dimmer than in the former. The book provides no explanation, so my nephew turned to me. I haven't got a clue.
