  • Choosing an art course?

If you are/were considering study art at University, what kind of things would help you choose an institution?

Would you make a judgment from their website, reputation, their literature?

I am NOT choosing an art course, I'm trying to find out what things help other people decide where to study art.

    Thanks for any feedback.

  • Spaying an older dog.

I have a Jack Russell who will be 8 years old at the end of August.

We adopted her nearly a year ago and her previous owners did not believe in spaying her. This month is the first period of time the vets have confirmed suitable for her op.

I have her booked in for the procedure in a fortnight and now I'm having second thoughts! Is she too old for this procedure? Am I putting her through an unnecessary procedure.

The vet said that they prefer to do it when they are young but didn't really offer up any other info than that. When I asked for 'advice' on spaying I was really only walked through the details of booking her in for the procedure and when I could pick her up.

I need the pros and cons of this as I don't want to put her through the op if it is not in her best interests. I don't care about any inconvenience with her being in season, my primary concern is her health and well being.

Any advice / thoughts and (if all goes ahead) post surgery experience and tips on after care very much welcome!

  • What type of stone can be used on a drive way?

I am planning a new drive way. I have seen many people use regular gravel or blue slate. I don't like either of these but do like either white or red stones. I have been warned that some types are not suitable for drives and the weight of vehicles breaks the stones down.

What types are suitable for drives? Is there some way you can easily tell (are they graded in some way). Do you know of any white stones that are suitable, or red ones?

Also, if anyone has any hints or tips on how the get a good quality, long lasting result re: prep work etc I would be really grateful.

    Many thanks :)

  • Jack Russell with upset tummy?

My Jack Russell Terrier had diarrhoea last night and a burbling tummy. She became rather lethargic - I rang the emergency (out of hours) vet line and followed advice to with hold food and provide lots of water.

The tummy noises have stopped and so far there is no more diarrhoea. I am worried she is a little shakey and not quite as bouncy as normal (although perkier than last night - she'll get out of bed to chase a squeeky toy for a minute or two).

Have you experienced similar with your dogs. Have they been a little slow to recover or bounced right back?

    She's seven years old.

  • Want to be a nurse? What do you need to know?

This question is for people who are considering a career in nursing.

I need to know what kind of process you are going through, whether you are just thinking about getting in to nursing, whether you have started investigating courses and options yet etc.

I want to know what you want to know (hope that makes sense). If you want information on funding or if you have any specific questions or worries that are getting in the way of you getting on to a nursing course.

Basically, I'm collecting information to help potential nurses get on to courses and I need to know all the things that might prevent you from realising your potential. So, if you have tried to start out on the career to nursing and something has got in your way - what was it?

  • Did you leave / nearly leave Uni without completing your course?

I'm trying to find out the top reasons that make students leave University without completing their course, whether they left for good or left to transfer to another institution.

So, if you left Uni or seriously considered doing so, I would much appreciate if you could take the time to let me know:

    a) Why you wanted / needed to leave

    and

    b) Is there anything the University could have done to help you stay on?

    Many thanks!

  • Dog food recommendation? Jack Russell - 7 years old?

Can anyone recommend, from experience, a good dog food for a 7 year old Jack Russell. I have been horrified when reading on the subject, some of the rubbish that goes in to dog food! I have since inspected the ingredients list on some of the well known cheap and expensive foods alike and have been less than impressed.

She likes Iams complete but this seems to make her a bit hyper and constipated (is feed alternatively with wet food - so it's not dry diet causing the latter).

    Any advice welcome.

  • Which Lush bar shampoo for my hair?

Can anyone recommened a good Lush bar shampoo for my hair? I love these shampoos, they're great.

I have been using New, which is great, but strips the colour out of my hair. I dye it red and find that New (and Hard which is also great) strips most of the colour of my hair within a week!

So, what's good for coloured hair that gets dirty pretty quick within a hard water area? (Don't want much do I?)

  • Nursing - if you are considering this a career, what are the barriers?

I'm doing some research in to nursing education and would like to know why people who want to go in to nursing don't manage it?

Whether it be time commitments and family or anything else, what do you think is/would/may have stopped you going in to nursing?

What barriers do you need to / have you overcome to realise your dream?

  • Book recommendation for aspiring actress?

Can anyone recommend a good book about getting in to the acting industry? It is for a teenaged girl (around 15) who wants to know how to best prepare herself for an acting career.

Only serious answers please, I've already warned my sister it will be difficult. I want to send her something that will actually help her out! Also looking for any other books that might help her with her theory / method - what ever it is actors need to know, I'm even more clueless than her.

    Any help appreciated!
