  • Current high-school students...?

I have a question about student teachers! I am one - I did my first practicum last year, and will do my last one next fall.

If you've ever had a student teacher teaching in your classroom, were they bad/good? What sort of things might they have changed to make them better? What is your idea of the perfect student teacher - i.e. a younger person who comes and teaches your class for a few weeks while your regular teacher is still in the room?

  • Is it legal to require customers to leave their bag at the front of a retail store in Canada?

I ask this because I feel it might be challenged as discrimination based on sex, since a male with a backpack might be asked to leave it at the front, while a female with even a large purse would go completely unquestioned.

I know there's no challenge on the basis of the Charter, since it only binds the government, but what about other laws?

  • Who is responsible for recording appointments, etc.?

Person A and person B live in the same residence. They both have busy and separate schedules which often interact with each others, due to vehicle availability, who will be at home when, etc.

Suppose person B makes an appointment which has the potential to conflict with person A's schedule in the future, if person A is unaware of or forgets person B's appointment. If person B verbally informs person A of this appointment, and person A acknowledges the appointment, who is responsible for making sure that person A remembers this appointment, whether it be through a daytimer, leaving a stick-note, etc.?

  • How frequently, if at all, should a healthy 23 y.o. male have a medical check-up?

I've wondered about this, as I haven't been to a GP for a preventative medical exam in at least 6 years (I can't remember the last time). I usually only visit the doctor when I have a specific symptomatic complaint.

I'm curious if the medical community recommends these sorts of check-ups for healthy younger people. I live in Canada, so I'm not concerned about cost, but I don't want to put a drain on the system if there's no need.

    Thoughts?

  • Graph theory (directed graphs) question?

I'm having trouble with this problem.

A graph has 6 vertices, and 12 edges, each of them directed. Each vertex has order 4 - 2 edges leaving it, and 2 edges entering it.

I'm supposed to design a graph so that no vertex is more than two steps (via the directed edges, i.e. can only travel in the direction each edge is pointing) from any other vertex.

In addition (and this is the hard part), I should be able to remove any vertex from the graph (and any any edges associated with it), and each of the remaining 5 vertices must be no more than three steps (via the remaining 8 directed edges) from any other vertex.

I've found a number of 6 vertex graphs that satisfy the first condition, but I can't get ANY to work for the second condition (i.e. removing one vertex). Anyone have an idea?

  • Canada vs US prison population?

I'm curious why there is such an incredibly enormous difference in incarceration rates between these two seemingly similar countries.

Canada has a population of roughly 34 million people, and roughly 34,000 in prison.

USA has a population of roughly 309 million people, and roughly 2,150,000 in prison.

Why is this? Can the crime rates be THAT different?
