Does the silicon that holds a frame-less glass shower screen in place get grotty?
I would prefer to use my local glass guy to install my new shower screen and door, but he wants to put a piece of channel along the floor and up the wall to support the frame-less glass panel as opposed to a thick silicon bead. He says that the silicon gets discoloured and grotty over time.
I've seen a few that just use silicon and they look great.
Can any one give me their experience with frameless glass showers?
1 AnswerDecorating & Remodeling1 decade agoCan I connect external rx and tx led's to a rs485 to rs232 converter?
I'm putting an RS485 to RS232 converter into a rack mounted enclosure. I'd like to mount Rx and Tx LED's on the front panel to indicate when it's working. (Similar to the ones that are built into the converter). Is there a way to do this?
1 AnswerOther - Electronics1 decade agoI would like to make my own bnc video patch cables. What is a good quality cable to use?
I would like to make my own video patch cables to use in a portable rack mounted road case. Standard off-the-shelf ones don't last so I would like to use a cable that is very flexible.
I'd also like to make up some 'Y' adapter cables to avoid using the BNC solid Y adapters that put more stress on the panel mounted BNC sockets.
What is a good quality cable and what are the matching BNC connectors that go with it?
Is solder better than crimp? I'm a pretty good solderer and when I'm on the road I'd prefer not to have to carry an extra crimping tool.

Is it practical to pump water 500 ft down a hose in a shaft that is already full of water? Would you need the water pressure at the surface to be a few hundred psi to get any flow at the bottom?
Or would it be really easy to pump?

I have recently moved to the USA and the wasabi that comes with sushi is very mild compared to Japan, England, Australia etc. Has anyone else noticed this and do you know where to get good wasabi?
1 AnswerOther - Food & Drink1 decade agoShould I get my grandmothers, great aunts ring reset?
I have inherited a ring that was my grandmothers great aunts. It has 3 large sapphires and 2 large diamonds but the metal is yellow gold that my wife doesn't wear and the setting is a style that doesn't really suit her.
Should we get the stones reset into a style that she would wear and enjoy, or is it better to leave it as it is, but never wear it?
5 AnswersFashion & Accessories1 decade agoHow does this prayer thing work?
What criteria does God use in deciding who's prayers to answer? Do you have to earn enough Brownie points first? It just seems so totally random. Why does one athlete thank God for helping him win when one of his competitors was also praying to win?
Doesn't God already know everything, so presumably he knows what is going to happen in the future, in which case if he answers a prayer, doesn't that mean he changed his mind, which would imply that he's imperfect?
Or does he already know which prayers he will answer in advance, in which case doesn't that make our lives pointless and predestined?
And no cop out answers like 'It's not possible for us to understand the mind of God' allowed.
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy should churches have tax free status?
They seem to be just like a club where you go for entertainment, worship and education. I resent that I have to subsidize their lifestyle because I have to pay tax on my entertainment and recreational pursuits.
I think it's ok for the charitable work to be tax free if it's carried out by a church (like building wells in villages or helping the homeless) but not the missionary component.
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCan I join the audio outputs from 4 computers into a single input on the speakers?
I have 4 computers but I don't want to have 4 sets of speakers - can I just join all 4 audio outputs together using 'Y' adapters and then connect them into one set of speakers? I would like it so I can hear all four computers at once, if necessary.
2 AnswersOther - Electronics1 decade agoIs a USB hub slower than the USB ports on the PC?
I transfer a lot of data between external hard drives. For convieniance, I would like to put a USB hub on my desk to save getting in behind the PC all the time.
Would transfering data between 2 external hard drives that are connected to the same hub be just as fast as if they were both connected to 2 of the PC's USB ports?
