  • Other dance forums?

There is some question regarding the future of Y!A due to the change in ownership of Yahoo and the deterioration of the moderation here. I've looked into Ballet Talk for Dancers which focuses on the current situation in ballet. I've also recently found Quora which is much more general than BTfD, but also more serious than Y!A. Has anyone discovered any others?

  • Dancing-- nothing new?

There have been no new questions for three days. Occasionally a question appears but quickly disappears. Is there a major glitch in YA?.

  • France-- Lyon airport?

Does anyone know how long it takes to go by taxi (not tram) from the airport in Lyon to the Part Dieu train station?

(Hoping that Yahoo, in its infinite wisdom, will place this in the correct category this time)

  • Wings vs. legs?

I confess I am a dinosaur-- it's well over 30 years since I retired as a ballet dancer. Recently I hear people referring to the "legs" of the stage, whereas we used to use the term "wings". Is this just a more modern term, or is there a difference and they are not referring to the same thing at all?

  • Have you heard of changes coming to Y!A?

Within a few days there are a number of changes planned, among them only the Asker will be able to choose best answer. I believe this defeats the purpose of asking a question because unless the question is merely rhetorical (or a rant) the Asker does not know which answer is the best. Furthermore, I'm afraid that those who have a certain amount of experience or expertise and enjoy being helpful to others will see their time spent here as being wasted and leave Y!A, and what has been a useful site will turn into a cesspool of misinformation and snark. Am I alone in thinking this way or do others have a similar reaction?

  • Suggestions for Los Angeles art museums?

I'll be in Los Angeles for a couple of days visiting friends. Are there any museums featuring the work of the California plein-air painters of the early 20th century? Your help would be much appreciated.

  • New TSA non-radiation scanners?

Recently going through security at SFO I was directed to pass through the scanner booth. I am a frequent flyer and try to avoid unnecessary radiation so I generally request a pat down instead. This time I was denied. They said the scanner didn't use radiation, but "body heat", and was completely safe. I've never heard of such a scanner and can find nothing on the I'net. Do they exist, and are they in use at SFO, or was I lied to?

  • Sand resist in watercolor?

Several years ago I learned how to use sand to illustrate a weathered stucco wall in the South of France. It involved wetting the paper (just water, or a light wash?), sprinkling sand (let it dry, or continue wet?) and dropping in other colors. When dry and the sand was brushed off the effect was very like the mottled stucco wall. I've since forgotten the exact method-- does anyone know?
