  • How do I add peanut butter to a cookie recipe? What ingredient do I replace?

If I wanted to add peanut butter to an existing cookie recipe, what ingredient would I replace? My first instinct is eggs, but I don't want to ruin a batch of cookies! I know adding without removing something would probably result in a mess.

  • Help with the name of a toddler toy?

I am trying to find a toy for my friend's daughter. A friend with a child of a similar age recommended a toy set, but she couldn't remember what it was called and I was hoping I could get some help on here!

It's a set of magnetic animals that are "cut in half." The goal is to correctly match the front and back halves, and when you do it correctly, the animal makes that animal's sound. She said she thought there were magnetic letters with them. Any idea what this toy is called so I can search for it effectively?

    Thanks!

  • I have pumpkin pie spice, but my recipe calls for individual spices...?

I have a premixed pumpkin pie spice. My pie recipe lists the spices individually. How do I convert the recipe to pumpkin pie spice? (I.e. if it calls for 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp nutmeg, etc, and the pumpkin pie spice has all that in it, how much spice do I use?)

    Thanks!

  • We're moving cross country with a cat. It's a 22 hour move. Any ideas on how to keep her calm and happy?

We will be moving with a truck and a car, but it is a friend's car and she can't be allowed to roam around in it. She doesn't mind car rides too much, but has never been on one that has lasted longer than 2 hours before.

We are getting sedatives from our vet, but they are only to use as a last resort, if she seems really upset. Any ideas on how to keep her calm and happy for the long, 3 day trip?

Also, any suggestions on how to do "potty breaks" for her, since she will only have litter box access in our pet-friendly hotels?

Leaving her behind and/or flying her to meet us is not an option.

    Thanks!

  • When creating a list of references, how do you say where you worked with someone?

If you are making a list of references for jobs and the person who will be your reference no longer works for the company at which you worked with them, how do you list them? A standard listing looks like this:

    John Doe

    Supervisor at X Company

    Address

    Phone

    Email

But, what if they work at X company now, but you know them from when you worked at Y company? How do you make it clear that this is someone with whom you worked?

    Thanks!

  • Need help finding scholarships?

I'm going to graduate school for Theatre Education in the fall and have been unable to find any scholarships. I have searched books and websites (Fastweb, Scholarships.com, Finaid.com, etc.) nonstop for over six months now and applied for dozens of scholarships, with no luck. So, I was hoping that, perhaps, some folks on here would have suggestions of places I haven't looked!

I had high high school and undergraduate GPAs, do volunteer work, and am the member of several honor societies. Though this particular post may not reflect this, I write pretty strong essays. So, you can see why this has been so frustrating!

    Any help would be wonderful!

    Thanks!

  • Could you suggest some new music for my iPod?

I enjoy almost everything. Explicit content isn't a problem. I listen to musicals and classical music, so those are definitely OK to suggest. (I only mention that because, generally, people don't suggest them unless told it's OK.) The only types I don't listen to are rap and religious music.

    Thanks!

  • Could you suggest a good historical fiction book?

I loved Ken Follet's Pillars of the Earth and World Without End. But, I'm having a hard time finding historical fiction that really stacks up to these! Any suggestions?

  • What would be a good book to read on a plane ride?

I'm looking for something in paperback so it won't be too heavy. I'll read just about anything. I'm hoping to find my book in the library, so please suggest something you believe a standard library would carry.

    Thanks!

  • What are people from Massachusetts called?

    New York = New Yorkers

    Utah = Utahvians

    Kansas = Kansans

    Oregon = Oregonians

    And so forth.

But, what are people from Massachusetts called? There doesn't seem to be an easy ending to add on, but I'm probably just tired and missing the obvious. :-)

    Thanks!

  • I'm chaperoning a hip-hop theme dance at a middle school tonight and I don't know what to wear. Help!?

I'm definitely not hip hop and have no real idea what to wear. I'm an adult female and have a pretty wide range of stuff in my closet. Any suggestions will do.

Please remember this is at a school so dress codes (no bra straps, clothes must cover midriff, etc.) must be followed.

  • Can I use bleach in the laundry with screen printed clothes?

My husband and I have a lot of white shirts with screen printing on them. (You know, the kid that have school logos and such on them.) The white fabric is getting stained and dingy after many wears, and I would like to bleach them. Is this safe to do on clothes that have screen printings on them?

The clothes have survived hot and cold wash cycles and have been washed with OxyClean, if that is any help.

  • Any suggestions on how to inexpensively increase verbal language fluency?

I took Spanish 1 and 2 in high school and made it through Spanish 4 in college. However, these classes all focused on writing and not verbal. I am now working as a translator (in addition to my other job duties), and am relatively fluent in Spanish...but, only in writing! My verbal is horrible! The vocabulary and grammar are all there, but I simply cannot think "on my feet' and use it. Luckily, most of my translation duties are written; but, I feel awful about being so slow when it comes to helping people verbally.

Any suggestions on how I can increase my verbal fluency? Please note that I can't afford to take any classes or travel abroad, as much as I would love to do so.

    Gracias.

  • What the heck is Acai berry? Does it really help?

I don't watch a ton of TV. But, I do have a Facebook, and these ads keep showing up for Acai berry and saying how Oprah and Rachel Ray swear by it for weight loss. I do not buy into weight loss "magic pills" and I am sure the "promises" about it are blown out of proportion; but if it is a healthy addition to a good diet plan, I would be willing to give it a go. (Gotta love those New Years Resolutions!)

So, what is the Acai berry and has anyone tried it? Does it lead to success or is it just another silly gimmick?

  • Where can we return books for store credit without a receipt?

My husband received 2 copies of the same book for Christmas already this year, and neither came with a receipt or gift receipt. We would like to return it, but Barnes and Noble and Borders both refused it because we didn't have a receipt! I worked at BN for 5 years, and the policy was always "As long as its in perfect condition, we'll give you store credit," but apparently that isn't the policy anymore (?).

Any suggestions of bookstores that would let us return it for store credit would be great! We aren't wanting cash or anything, just to be able to return the books and then shop when we have time, after the holidays.

  • Is it appropriate to include a resume with a grad school application when it is not asked for?

I am applying to a theatre graduate program. In theatre, your work history is very important. Though my specific program does not ask for a copy of my resume, there is a place on my online application where I could upload it along with my personal statement (in a different file, of course). This section is reserved for Personal Statements and Resumes, it says, but my specific program has not asked for the resume. Is it okay for me to upload it anyway?

    Thanks!

  • When, if ever, was French the official language of England?

I work in a middle school. I noticed today that, in the agenda, their "fun fact" for this week is "French was the official language of England for over 600 years." Now, I took a British history class in college (which wasn't long ago), and I don't remember that ever being mentioned. Could anyone fill me in if it is true, or tell me why they would think this if it is not true?

    Thanks!
