  • Inherited Rental Property No Records!?

My friend inherited a rental property from his mother in-law around two years ago. I just found out that the mother was renting the property to a lady for many years and apparently kept NO records (depreciation, cost basis, rental income, etc.). Additionally, the executor did not determine the fair market value of the property at the time of death or 6 months later. Lastly, the tenant has been living in the house by providing services (picking up mail, taking out trash, etc.) in lieu of rent which as I understand is service revenue. Is there any way to recapture all of this missing information without creating a tax/accounting nightmare? Has this happened to anyone else?

Is there a way to easily get this back on track? Any help would be great. Thanks!

  • Warrior Forge/LDAC and land navigation?

I am going to LDAC this summer (2008) and I am a little worried about the night land navigation. I heard they are no longer putting chem lights on the points and they will only give you two chances to pass NLN before they kick you out. Is this true? Is the night land navigation really that hard?

  • For recruiters and former recruiters "medical issues"?

I have a friend who signed up to be a nurse in the army under a direct commissioning program. She is near graduation and a few months ago she had two seizures in the span of a week. She has been prescribed medication, she is not allowed to drive, and she still has to undergo further testing. Does this disqualify her from getting in to the Army?

  • Graduate school credits?

I heard from some guy I know that graduate school credits can expire if you don't get your degree within a few years. I understand for highly technical degrees where the technology changes rapidly; but for MBA's and some Liberal Arts graduate degrees do the credits expire? Do each institutions have their own requirements or is this a generally accepted practice?

  • Girls mature faster than guys?

I am constantly hearing that girls mature faster than guys, yet I have only been able to find evidence of girls maturing physically (hormonally) a little faster than guys. As far as acting and conducting themselves like adults before males do, I have been unable to find any scientific/psychological proof from a respected author or journal that gives this myth any credibility.

Is this just a myth cooked up by the feminists in the 1960-1970's or is their actual credible proof out there and if so where? I do not care if girls do mature faster than men or if it is a myth, I just want to have some proof to back up the claim.

  • Become accountant without accounting degree?

I am going to be a junior in college this fall and I have been on a general education track for the last two years. I am getting a minor in military science, so backtracking and getting an accounting degree will take too long and require a complete reversal which I can't afford in time or $. As long as I have a degree and lots of accounting/business classes under my belt will future employers care? I've read a lot of stuff online about accounting firms only wanting BS accounting grads despite the fact many CPA's show up to interview with English degrees. Are employers really this fickle about accounting degrees or are they willing to recognize coursework instead? I have the option of getting a Liberal Studies degree with any coursework I want and I will be able to graduate on time, but all the drama over a specific degree is causing me to question this.

  • Army Force Stabilization?

I have been checking around online and in every issue of Army Times I can find but I can't find anything about when Force Stabilization is supposed to be finished. I know in Alaska it has taken effect but everywhere I look everyone is still doing 2-3 year tours across the US and OCONUS (except Korea). Does anyone know anything about when Force Stabilization is going to start keeping people from PCS'ing every 2-3 years?

  • Government retirements and promotions?

I am a veteran who is currently attending college. I am looking at certain government jobs after I graduate and some of them have noncompetitive promotion potential to GS-9/11. My question is what is the process to get promoted from GS-5 to GS-11 or higher and how long do you have to work for the government to collect a retirement? From what I have seen GS jobs don't have a minimum time for a pension, you just can't start drawing the pension(no matter how small) until a certain age.

If anyone could clarify, answer, or point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. None of the websites I have visited seem to spell this stuff out.

  • Statistics in Accounting?

I am currently getting a liberal studies degree (aka make your own degree) and I am taking a bunch of accounting classes to hopefully get my CPA one day. My question is, do CPA's or general accountants need to know a lot of statistics to be successful? I realize it is important for the GMAT and possible graduate school, but if I don't need it to get into accounting right now, I plan on skipping it.

  • Statistics in Accounting?

I am currently getting a Liber Arts degree (aka design your own degree) and I am planning to fill it with a bunch of accounting classes in order to get my CPA one day. If I go this route can I skip out on some statistics classes? My question is, do I really need a lot of statistics for accounting work and classes? Right now I am just planning on taking them after I get my degree for some type of graduate school. I am not in the position where I can take a bunch of unecessary classes. Thanks.

  • Selection rates for Major in the Army?

I recently got involved with the Army ROTC unit at the local college and they have been discussing career progression yet they seem to have glossed over selection rates for Major. I know these fluctuate from year to year but what really happens if you get passed over for Major? I read somewhere that you have to seperate from the military! Is it easy to get passed over? I have 5 years active duty (enlisted) so far and I don't want something to happen in my future career where I have to seperate at 15 years of service! Any information would be very helpful, especially personal experience, links to websites, etc. Thanks

  • I am in the military and would like to get married.?

My problem is the Uniformed Services Former Spousal Protection Act allows the courts to cut up my retirement and give it to my wife if she decides to leave me. I am not opposed to an equitable division of money after a marriage, but military benefits should stay with the military member. I have plenty of friends who owe money to their ex-wives for the rest of their lives because of this law and those women cheated on them or left them for someone else!!! Does anyone know if a pre-nup will take care of keeping my retirement pay?
