^&5@#(!! i had a decidedly antisocial "about me" paragraph. i figure that yahoo answers is generally a fairly hokey place, and i didn't want to post anything "real" here. notwithstanding my outward hostility, i've had some really great interactions with answerers and answerees, so i figured i should tone down my literally "**** you!" reception and instead welcome interaction! sorry if i've offended people!

  • disposable plates, cups, napkins, utensils - and vermin! are disposables safe to eat off?

remembering a factory where i worked with boxes piled to the ceiling and it was necessary to climb to get to those high up; and remembering the mice, rat, and roach traps that warehouses anywhere require because those vermin exist, i often question that people unquestioningly eat off paper plates, with plastic utensils, even wiping their faces with paper napkins which have been ... there's no way to know! i mean, surely workers are not in sterile conditions, and if someone puts a box on the floor before lifting it to a work surface, and because that person walked on that floor after traipsing through **** on the sidewalk earlier in the morning, then a plate put on that surface before being stacked onto another plate is introducing **** to my zucchini and feta sandwich, right?

  • what do protestants believe with regard to martin luther and his views?

besides his opposition to indulgences and his insitence that salvation is not earned but is granted, he was also extraordinarily antisemetic. i remember learning about ML way back without mention of the antisemitism - are protestants aware of that? how is ML regarded? as a saint? or are ML's points about indulgences and salvation the basis of modern protestant faith but he's dismissed? do protestants agree with his antisemitic points or disagree, or perhaps qualify them, or whittle them down to something acceptable? what do protestants know and/or accept, and what not? i'm not necessarily asking what some nice modern democratic protestants think, like "i'm not like that and i don't know anyone who is," but, rather, i would like to know about protestants who have stumbled upon this vein of hostile antisemitism tp ;earm jpw it is reconciled with protestant views.

  • lottery numbers - picking my own numbers vs. selecting "quick pick" - statistical question ...?

i see that most lottery winners (in the 70 percent area) play quick pick. however, it seems that quick pick would necessitate that in a way the same set of random numbers comes up twice - first on your ticket, and then as the lottery results. i know that for any lottery any set of numbers has an equal chance, but that there are also longer-range statistics that would seemingly favor just putting down a set of numbers, any numbers, rather than hoping these numbers come up twice - or, especially playing the same numbers for a long time ... i don't know exactly how to ask, but if someone can speak to the statistical differences between picking my own numbers and quick pick, i'd appreciate it!

  • anyone else discovered their mcdonalds chicken mcnuggets contain ... ?

i'm wondering if people know this - i just discovered it and i want to know who else discovered that mcnuggets are 50% not-chicken ....

According to McDonald’s, their chicken nuggets are “made with white meat, wrapped up in a crisp tempura batter.” But what are dimethyl polysiloxane and tertiary butylhydroquinone?

Dimethylpolysiloxane, an anti-foaming agent made of silicone, and butylhydroquinone (TBHQ), a chemical preservative so deadly just five grams can kill you are just two of the ingredients in a McDonald’s Chicken McNugget. Only 50 percent of a McNugget is actually chicken. The other half includes corn derivatives, sugars, leavening agents and completely synthetic ingredients.

Dimethyl polysiloxane is a type of silicone with anti-foaming properties used in cosmetics and a variety of other goods like Silly Putty. Tertiary butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) is a manufactured petroleum-based product with certain antioxidant properties which is commonly used in varnishes, lacquers, pesticide products, cosmetics, and perfumes to reduce the evaporation rate and improve stability as well as in food wehre it prevents oxidation of fats and oils, extending shelf life of processed foods. The Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives determined that TBHQ was safe for human consumption at levels of 0-0.5 mg/kg of body weight. However, the Codex commission later reset the limits to between 100 and 400 mg/kg, depending on the food it’s in. (Chewing gum contains the highest levels of TBHQ.) According to A Consumer’s Dictionary of Food Additives, one gram of TBHQ can cause: nausea, vomiting, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), delirium, sense of suffocation, collapse and, based on animal studies, health hazards associated with TBHQ include liver effects at very low doses, positive mutation results from in vitro tests on mammalian cells, biochemical changes at very low doses, and reproductive effects at high doses.

    also:

    calcium sulfate (Plaster of Paris)

    calcium carbonate (Antacid)

    ammonium sulfate (Harmful if swallowed)

ammonium chloride (Causes irritation to the gastrointestinal tract. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea)

    calcium propionate (Preservative)

    sodium propionate (Mold inhibitor)

ten years ago i inherited this and i am looking to sell it - editions i find on line seem to be later printings and editions and are more easily identifiable than this. i'd like to find out how much it is worth and how to sell it. i'd prefer consignment or, depending on value, auction. of course price, etc., depends on dustjacket and condition, etc., but perhaps someone has a first step i can take. thanks!

  • is there a way to adjust/disable yahoo's email autosave?

the function is not compatible with my computer security system. i suspect this is because my work's security system does not allow a website to capture screen content automatically. thus, while writing an email, after a couple of minutes i get an error message. i figure if i disable autosave, or make it very infrequent, i'll get around the incompatibility. also if there is not a way (and i suspect there is not) i'd like to hear that to and any work-arounds (i've been saving as a draft like every minute, or rather than composing an email in yahoo i've been composing in in a word processing program and only copying it into the email when it is ready to send).

i first researched this question but the only question i saw with "disable" and "yahoo" "autosave" was deleted possibly because it elicited people responding trying to undermine yahoo's interface, so i'm not looking for that, just legitimate how-to's, please!

    thanks!

  • why the divergence between berkshire hathaway a&b class shares?

curious as to why the A shares are outperforming B shares. i thought some arbitrage kept the shares in lockstep with each other, however, not only is that seemingly not the case, the A shares are advancing more than the B shares. i'd expect the opposite because the B shares have become more popular due to their accessibility and inclusion within the S&P 500.

  • two years ago i purchased a poorly designed appliance and believe i can bring legal action if not too late ...?

i purchased it two years ago, finally installed it in january 2009. some design defects were very soon apparent and i wrote to the company in april 2009 documenting the problem (the company representative agreed with me that such an appliance should, and does not perform a very rudimentary function) and asked them to replace it with another model (they refused). i did nothing further since, however the defect is more and more problematic for my use and i have no doubt i have a legitimate claim - i am not asking about my claim per se, just how to find out if the statute of limitations relating to an implicit representation of merchantability has run. if i still have time i intend to file a claim in new york small claims court. thanks!

  • i made IR cam by replacing original filter w/a piece of dark color film - what if there was no filter?

the dark film filters out the visible light - i've already reassembled the camera, but now wonder what if i didn't replace the filter but left it out altogether. would it be totally distorted, or perhaps it would just be extraordinarily detailed? also, the purpose is to monitor a neighboring parking lot at night, which is difficult for my cheap cam with or without IR so perhaps i should have removed all filters because i'm desperate to catch whatever i can ... how does this all work?

  • what paper or other material dramatically changes color when wet ...?

in particular i'm trying to find out when a light spray appears on a window which over time has made my window look really disgusting (caked on grime).

i think someone upstairs is pours out mop water or something every few days, but i can't tell for sure. since it is barely visible, my thought was to set up a cam during the day with a clock or some paper or something that changes color when wet, so that i can at least identify what time of day or evening this occurs - if i can identify the time once or twice i'd simply find a place to wait outside to better determine from which apartment above (it is a big building) it might come from.

    i'm thinking some artist knows!

  • got a cheap modem, plugged it in and it works, but don't know how to record movies ...?

particularly i'd like to set it up to observe behavior of neighborhood woodchucks - big problem here but first i want to see how many there are, when they come, how long they stay, where they come from, and where they go.

i plugged the logitech quickcam express into the computer and it automatically accepted and configured and whatever it does, and now the image indeed comes up under "scanners and cameras" - however, it seems i can only save snapshots from there, and ideally i'd like it to run all night (and maybe even include a clock, but i can simply put a clock in the foreground). i'm wondering if the installation was in the wrong place, and should be under another media topic which would provide further options? i don't have any additional hard or software with the cam.

    thanks for your advice!

  • how does islamic law and ethics pertain to the iranian ayatollah?

the ayatolla's insistence that the election and election results are fair would be an ethically-challenged by my standards. but he's got other standards (and possibly double-standards) as a religious leader in a country governed by shari'a. how might islamic law govern election fraud, enforcing results, dealing with people who challenge the results, and dealing with people who challenge related state and religious edicts? although lots of criticism regarding a flawed election falls on ahmadinijab, isn't it the religious law as promulgated by the ayatollah which lies at the root?

might there be another moral ground whereby the ayatollah's insistence that the election was fair, despite evidence to the contrary, might be proper, for instance with regard to preserving faith or not getting caught up in politics, or something?

please share with me what scripture might underlie such edicts, please!
