2 AnswersTelevision1 decade agoJames II. Did he suffer from mental illness?
I have heard a theory that James II of England (James VII of Scots) was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. If it is true that indeed James had this condition, then it would explain his unwillingness to face up to William of Orange in battle, both when William landed in England, and later at the Boyne. It would also account for his tempestuous behaviour, especially the throwing of the Great Seal into the Thames.
