  • Auto-switching VGA switch?

Does anyone know of a good and inexpensive VGA switch that will automatically switch to the active video feed?

Some of the options I've considered:

    -Kramer VP-211

    -StarTech AVS210

    -Aten VS201

They all have the features I'm looking for, but are a bit too expensive.

  • Better to have less volts or amps?

I have a device (laptop) that lists a power requirement of 19A 2.64A on the back. I don't have the original power adapter, so I'm forced to use one of two I already have on hand - which aren't perfect.

    Am I better off using a 19V 2.6A or 18.5V 4A adapter?

  • How to ground external antenna?

What needs to be done to properly ground a coaxial cable running from an antenna on the roof of a house? I'm guessing that running a cable straight from the antenna to the VCR/TV through a window is not the ideal setup!

  • What happens when flash memory wears out?

Flash memory has a certain number of read and write cycles - what happens when these have been expended?

Does the memory give any warning to its impending doom?

What happens when the r/w cycles have been expended? Is the data still accessible?

  • Long Network Run?

What is the best way to get semi-reliable internet access (speed is not crucial) across a distance of about 800 feet? Cost is the main factor - wireless APs (Linksys WAP54G) are already in place, if that helps.

  • Batch Find and Replace IPTC?

I'm looking for software that will let me do a Find and Replace option with IPTC tags. I use Adobe Bridge to tag images, and Picasa to search them. I've misspelled someone's name in a few hundred photos, and would like to be able to fix them easily.

  • Snow despite having HDCP compliant projector?

I'm trying to get a RCA DRC257N HDMI Upconvert DVD Player to work with a Planar PR5020 XGA DLP Video Projector - I have a small adapter that converts the DVD player's HDMI to the projector's DVI.

The DVD player's menu and default screen, along with DVDs I've burnt, show up (although it seems overexposed) via the HDMI/DVI configuration I have, but when I try to play a commercial DVD I get the Anti-Piracy warning then static/snow.

From my research it seems that this 'snow' results from the display device (in this case the projector) not having HDCP. The projector documentation claims that it features a "DVI-D digital input with HDCP decryption (High bandwidth Digital Content Protection)."

I don't know if this will help, but when trying the setup with a LG RC199H DVD Recorded/DVD Player (w/HDMI) all I could get was a very poor picture, with little color quality, and a heavy purple tint.

What I can I do to resolve this problem?

  • Single Core compared to Dual Core?

I know its hard to compare a single core processor to a dual core processor, but could some of you more savvy in the ways of the processor give me an idea of what a AMD Turion Mobile ML-40 (2.2Ghz) would relate to in both a Core 2 Duo and an AMD Turion 64 X2, speed wise.

I'm not necessarily looking for the model name (eg TL-50), but rather what speed (eg 1.6Ghz) would be equivalent.

  • Domain Profiles in Windows XP?

Apparently, from experience, Windows XP Professional does not always create a new profile/account when you join a domain (eg user.domain). What determines if a new account will be created?

I have seen multiple computer create a user.domain account when there is already a user account, but one computer kept the user account for both the local and domain profiles.

  • Service Pack 4Free - Windows 2000 Professional?

When booting into Safe Mode on a Windows 2000 Professional box I see "Service Pack 4Free" at the top of the screen - something I haven't noticed on other boxes.

Is this service pack legitimate? I would assume it is, except that I'm cleaning spyware and viruses off the machine now, so I'm suspicious.

  • Route Single IP over Ethernet, Route everything else wireless?

Is it possible to have a Windows XP Home computer route all traffic, except that of a specific IP, MAC, Name, or IP Range, over one network interface (wireless), and route only the information destined for a specific computer over a different interface (Ethernet).

I don't want to bridge connections, as the second computer (wired) cannot have access to the wireless network, but I would like the first computer (wireless & wired) to have access to the wired computer. Security is really not an issue, so it doesn't have to be hacker-proof.

I would think this was not possible, except for these statements:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/chat...

^ Search for "if you're joined to a domain"

    http://www.hackerthreads.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t...

^Search for "When I attempt to ping"

Sorry I couldn't include the full text, but it was well over 1000 characters.
