  • Children's book about an angel who falls to earth and is raised by a family?

My grandmother used to read me a children's book about a little girl angel who gets left behind on earth. I recall a passage where her feet are hurt by stones before she is found and taken in by a family who raises her. We had this book in the early 1980's. I can't remember the title. Anyone recognize the story?

  • Is it proper to ask a relative about a suspected relapse?

My mother-in-law is a prescription drug addict. She went into rehab about a year and a half ago, and refused to continue with a program after she got out. There's a great deal of denial in my husband's family. They make a lot of excuses for her drug use related to a "need" for the prescriptions.

I am pregnant, and am afraid to allow her around the baby if she's using. She becomes very irresponsible, emotionally abusive, and clumsy when she's high. I think she's relapsed and is using again.

What is considered the proper thing to do if you think your relative has relapsed? I am obviously concerned for her, but I am also concerned for my own family if we interact with her while she's high. What do I do if I suspect she's high and I'm uncomfortable having her around my baby? Do I confront her? Ask her about her sobriety? I certainly don't want to ignore a potentially dangerous or upsetting situation.

  • Is there a product to prevent mold after a basement flood?

A flash flood came through and inundated the storm sewers in our area this morning, briefly putting an inch of water in our finished basement. We don't want the woodwork and carpet to rot. Is there anything we can put down to keep mold from forming?

  • Have you had contact with Jeremy Clark Erskine, escaped felon from Indiana?

I did. He pretended to be a recently home veteran of the Iraq War, and then (allegedly) stole my credit cards and car. He's dangerous, and probably in the area of Edmonton, AB. Have you had contact with him? Tell us about it! Perhaps the authortities will finally do something to put him back in jail.

  • What was the fate of Israel's anti-missionary law?

I lived in Israel for a few years back in the late 1990's, and I recall a law before the Knesset to outlaw religious evangelizing. I recalled this because of a question relating to the "Bibles for Israel" program some Christians are attempting in Israel now.

Are the outrageous activities of groups like this legal in Israel? Does the government have any ability to stop such violations of Jewish communal rights?

  • Do you ask for RSVP for family holiday celebrations?

In the past few years, I have taken responsibility for putting together and cooking for the family holiday dinner. We have as many as 15 people to the dinner. My question is, who requires RSVP for family events? I want to, because otherwise I have people not telling me until the afternoon of the meal whether they are coming.

Is asking family for an RSVP unreasonable or rude? Does comong etiqute say I should or should not assume people who do not respond are not coming?

  • For law enforcement or attorneys - is this vehicle theft?

A "friend" of mine asked to borrow my car for a specific amount of time and purpose. His intension, however, was to take my car and not give it back. I didn't know when I lent him the car that he'd gotten into trouble with the law, and was intending to flee in my car. I let him borrow the car for a short time to run an errand, but it was not returned on time. In fact he had fled. I got the car back after it broke down and he took it to a shop for repair. He left my car at the shop and took their loaner, which he ran off in and abandoned in another state. Was my car stolen, and was there a crime? I live in Illinois.

  • What do you think of a family member regularly giving ultimatums?

I have a family member who consistantly gives others ultimatums. If she doesn't like what someone else is doing or saying, her response is always something like "You need to do (something differently) or I will (some demand or action that will not solve the problem)." It seems to me that there is no way to have a conversation with her that addresses uncomfortable issues without it being bogged down in her demands before she'll speak to you. The latest thing is that she is demanding that everyone behaves the way she wants, or she's not coming to a family function. How do you handle someone like this?

  • Irish creel bag in V. Square's knitted Fold Bags book. Please explain the "Turning ridge." I can't imagine it.

I'm knitting the Irish Creel bag from this book, and I can't figure out what is happening in the "Turning Ridge" part of the pattern. Does it start short rows or something? If anyone has the book or has knitted the pattern, please explain.
