  • What do I need to get started in dentistry?

I have always enjoyed my visits to the dentist, believe it or not. In fact, I have decided that my life dream would be to become a professional dentist. I see that really everything you need to practice dentistry is available for sale on eBay.

Can you please take a look at this search and tell me what I would need to get started?

    http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38....

Before you get all in my face about needing an education and all that, please bear in mind that I am only planning to practice on my family and friends until I get a few things figured out. Everyone has to start somewhere.

Oh yes. If you wouldn't mind, I want to get the best equipment available, but since I am not making any money at this yet, I need to limit my budget to about $1,000-1,500.

    Thank you in advance.

Someone mentioned this in an answer here, so I think I can ask this question here.

  • Is Nikon discontinuing the 50mm f/1.4 lens?

Now that I have your attention...

Are they going to drop the 50mm f/1.4D lens (with an aperture ring) from the line as they introduce the new AF-S 50mm f/1.4G version?

I read in PopPhoto that the AF-S will "replace" the "D" lens.

If you were thinking about getting a nice prime, the "D" lens is selling for $280 now and the AF-S "G" lens is selling for $440! That's quite a difference. Not only that, the "D" lens will use the same 52mm filters that fit my 35mm f/2 lens, but the "G" lens will need 58mm filters.

I'm sure the AF-S version will focus faster, but for a 60% increase in price, it ought to!

  • Do you ever "Do a little research" before you answer?

There is a search window that opens up when you are composing an answer that suggests you might do a little research before you post your answer. Does anyone ever do that? Don't you think people would not bother trying to answer a question if they didn't already think they knew the answer? Don't we have something better to do with our time than try to answer a question that we have to research in order to answer?

  • What's a good soap to use with softened/conditioned water?

We just put in a reverse osmosis system in the house. The water is nice and clean now, but I don't feel squeaky clean. The product information talks about this, saying that the "slick" feeling is your natural skin, "which you have never felt before." I feel almost like I've got baby oil on my skin. Okay, once I dry off, I feel just fine, but while I'm rinsing, I just feel like I have to keep rinsing and rinsing. I use Ivory Soap in the shower, as I have for most of my adult life. With our "hard" water, I always felt exceptionally clean. Interestingly, I noticed that my hair rinses very clean. Once I get the shampoo on my hands, they also feel like they rinse off totally. This makes me think that there must be some better soap to use in conditioned water.

What have you used and what do you recommend? Ivory Soap just isn't going to cut it for me anymore.

Any other comments are welcome. Laundry detergent... Dishwasher soaps...

    Thanks.

  • Are you "Party A" or "Party B"?

I heard a discussion on NPR today about the new marriage licenses in California. They no longer read "Bride" and "Groom" under the lines where the betrothed are supposed to sign the documents. Instead, they read "Party A" and "Party B." This was as a result of the "confusion" in same-sex marriages where the couple would not be properly identified as a bride and groom, but now ALL marriage licenses in California will read "A" and "B" as the couple.

The problem is, there are some parties who do not wish to be identifed as either "A" or "B." It is even a problem in male-female marriages where neither one wants to officially declared the "B" party, because it somehow sounds subordinate to Party A.

What do you think? Which are you – A or B? If you wish to identify the character of your marriage, that's fine, but if you don't wish to then don't.

Even if you have been married 20-30 years, I'd like to know if you feel like the "A" party or the "B" party.

    Thanks.

  • If two computers are on a wireless network, are they secure?

If two computers are on a wireless network, can one person be clever enough to access the files on the other computer?

I'm not asking how to do this. I just want to know if it is possible. A friend had his bank account and credit cards stolen and the first question they asked at the bank was, "Do you have a wireless router for the internet?" and then suggested that he do away with it for security purposes, as many people who have had their accounts stolen also seem to rely on wireless routers.

    Your thoughts???

  • How often can you run lye through the drain line?

Specifically, how often can I put a gallon of Main Line Cleaner, made of sodium hydroxide and pottasium hydroxide - the strong stuff - into my 4" cast iron sewer line?

I am in a city with a municipal sewer line - not a septic system.

    Thanks in advance.

  • How do you clean a sewer vent?

I am in the city with municipal water and sewer. I have two vents from the 4" main line up to the roof. Each vent is located more or less near a bathroom.

Should these vents be cleaned out periodically?

What's the best or right way to do this?

    Thanks in advance.

  • How do you deal with depressed spouse?

My wife has "been there" with more therapists than I can remember (seriously - more than 10 in 25 years) and she is resistant to treatment. I try... But she can sit and enumerate her flaws like a grocery list and I end up in trouble. I can't disagree or it's "patronizing." I can't agree, because - well that sucks. But I just don't konw what my role is as she sits and runs herself down by speaking the truth.

"I never do anything anymore. I can't leave the house. I don't bother cooking. I hate to answer the phone so I don't. I don't even want to get dressed. I feel like I should cook a meal for you, but I don't. I have aches and pains, but I don't deserve to feel better."

Frankly, it goes on and on and on and I just don't know how to help. Whatever I say - good or bad - is rejected and any attempt to "converse" on my part is shot down. Of course, any LACK of attempt to converse is even worse.

    It used to be good...

Now I'll go read the 20 or so previous questions about this...

I'm not an Imus fan or supporter, but read his quote in context:

Why didn't his producer get called on the carpet? He spoke first.

  • New Jersey No Threshold Option?

[Please do not explain this option to me, as I understand it. Thank you.]

I presently carry the option to sue for pain and suffering on my NJ auto insurance. When this first came in about 30 years ago, it only made about $100 difference in my individual premium. Now, with 3 cars and 3 drivers, it is more than 25% of my total premium. It's reached the point where I am considering whether to drop the option and give up the right to sue, unless the injury meets the specified qualifications. (If you are not familiar with this list, you can't really answer my question.)

Do you have any experience in this area or any suggestions? Do you think it's worth the expense of holding onto that "no threshold" option in the event of some crazy neck or back injury that can't really be diagnosed or treated? Do you have any random thoughts about the "no threshold" option in New Jersey?

If you have a least or most favorite company, I'd be happy to hear about them, too.

    Thanks for your input.

  • Subaru Outback 3.0 and ethanol in fuel?

In my area, some gas stations are now using a 10% ethanol blend in their "winter formula." Does this have any implications for my 2007 - 3.0 Outback engine? Should I look for a brand that does not add ethanol? The octane rating is supposedly not altered by the ethanol, but the added ethanol is supposed to prevent gas line freezing problems.

  • Dentist to dentist and other dental pros...?

We are considering closing the practice to emergencies. In other words, if you are not a patient of record, you can not call with a toothache and expect to be seen "today."

It seems cold to consider this, but it is also inconsiderate to my regular patients who have waited some weeks for their appointment time to let someone upset the whole applecart because they didn't take proper care of themself.

Have any of you done this and what is your experience or advice?

I don't imagine I'll be choosing a "best" answer, as I am just looking for as many opinions as I can find, so this will probably just go to the vote of the masses. Maybe one will emerge as a winner though...
