11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoProtestant Christians, what do you make of these?
"Take note of those who hold heterodox opinions on the grace of Jesus Christ which has come to us, and see how contrary their opinions are to the mind of God. . . . They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer because they do not confess that the Eucharist is the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ, flesh which suffered for our sins and which that Father, in his goodness, raised up again. They who deny the gift of God are perishing in their disputes" (Letter to the Smyrnaeans 6:2–7:1 [A.D. 110])
"We call this food Eucharist, and no one else is permitted to partake of it, except one who believes our teaching to be true and who has been washed in the washing which is for the remission of sins and for regeneration [i.e., has received baptism] and is thereby living as Christ enjoined. For not as common bread nor common drink do we receive these; but since Jesus Christ our Savior was made incarnate by the word of God and had both flesh and blood for our salvation, so too, as we have been taught, the food which has been made into the Eucharist by the Eucharistic prayer set down by him, and by the change of which our blood and flesh is nurtured, is both the flesh and the blood of that incarnated Jesus" (First Apology 66 [A.D. 151])

4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAccording to Just War Theory, are the rebellions occurring in the Middle East and Africa legitimate?
Or would you hold that there is a better solution? This has been coming up lately and I'm curious what people think. I've often thought that some methods of just war are necessary, and am curious on other people's views on the present issue.

1 AnswerReligion & Spirituality1 decade ago"A young man who wishes to remain a sound atheist cannot be too careful of his reading." -C.S. Lewis?
Any thoughts? What books did you find present the most influence on you, either for or against Christianity?
I would recommend a few for anyone who he is seriously curious. :)
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
Orthodoxy by C.K. Chesterton
Close to anything by Peter Kreeft (you may visit his website for a treasure trove)
And countless others! (That's where you would come in). :P

1 AnswerReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHeaven or God?
When you speak of salvation and heaven, think about what you are hoping for when you die. Is it meeting with your family, not being in Hell etc. Or do you want Heaven because you have a desire for God. Just Our Lord. No angels with harps, no clouds and buffets. Do you want God ? Think about it. Would you be willing to be in Hell with God or in Heaven with Satan?
God Bless,
Elisha
