  • Is the marriage license constitutional?

Shouldn't the government be blind to my religion, race, age, sexual preference, Marital status, etc?

I saw a video some time ago that had said the marriage license was created out of racism, to prevent interracial marriages. So I have to wonder how our government can let something like this be created, and still be practiced today.

It seems to me we should abolish the marriage license, rather then trying to extend it to include gays, the government shouldn't treat married people differently then the unmarried.

  • Why shouldn't suicide be an option?

When people don't like their job or the work they do, they have an option to quit because they are not slaves.

When they don't like the relationship they are in, they can break it off and move on.

And the thing is, people can do these things painlessly, it does not need to be a huge painful process.

The only time it is painful is when people are obsessive, when the person you are in a relationship with is obsessive and doesn't want to let you go.

So why is suicide not accepted? Why is assisted suicide an unlawful killing?

If it is a matter of process, then why not have a system where painless suicide options become available if a person has no reasonable debts that can not be paid with collateral, and have a wait period till they are able to do it.

With that, why is society obsessed with making people live, even if the life they live is not good?

  • Can a universal programmable remote control do this?

I have a camera that has a remote control and I wanted to try and do time-lapse photography (the camera does not have this feature and it will not work with intervalometers :P), so I was wondering if any one knows of a universal/programmable remote control that can learn my camera's remote control commands and play them back at timed intervals?

  • Was Plato fascist?

I've read excerpts from Plato's Republic which interested me a lot, but I read on the web also by some that he was fascist. Whether you think so or not, I'd like to know why this is said. Thank you.

  • How do I tell an old friend I don't want to hang out with them?

I recently ran into an old friend from high school, and we did some catching up and I hung out with him and his girlfriend twice already. But now I'm feeling bad that I don't want to really hang out with him.

The situation is that what made us friends a long time ago is no longer there. That is we used to do drugs together, and now I have developed a fetish for sobriety.

When we hung out together I told him I didn't want to do any of that, and he was cool about not pressuring me, but our conversation was kind of boring, all he wanted to talk about was his plans for the future and then lecturing me about what I should do. Reminding me of my dad :P. But the second time I went to hang out with him, I didn't want to get caught up in the same deal so I joined him in some drinking, but wasn't happy in the end that I did it, I ended up saying a lot of crap that I really didn't want to say, and even now I feel withdrawal and depression, and it feels worse because I don't want to hang out.

  • Do laws ever get removed?

Law makers are busy making laws, but do laws ever get officially removed, or do the law books keep getting bigger and bigger?

  • Does it matter if someone cheats at Yahoo Answers?

I've found some cheaters, or at least what appear to be people with multiple accounts, or a group of friends that vote for each others answers, or something to do with promoting Napolean Hill

    http://answers.yahoo.com/my/profile?show=995394df5...

    http://answers.yahoo.com/my/profile?show=2a09579be...

Anyway, is this at all wrong? I feel it is, but then I realize that voted on answers are usually worse then answers chosen by askers. I also have to wonder, if more people voted would that fix the problem or make it worse :P

I feel it's wrong because it seems like they are just promoting things, some of what they say is just wrong, like the 10% of the brain myth :P

  • What does copenhagen interpretation say about a single slit?

I would think that both the pilot wave theory (Bohm interpretation) and the Copenhagen interpretation would explain the two slit experiment, but what about when there is a single slit?

When there is a single slit, do photons act like a waves or particles? That is if it acts like a wave there should be a gradient in the center, and if it acts like a particle then it should be a projection of the slit.

I would think with 1 slit, the pilot wave theory would act like a particle, where as I would think Copenhagen interpretation would act like a wave although I must admit I don't know enough about copenhagen interpretation to know if that is correct.

  • Life and death, what is your choice and opinion?

2 questions that I want to put up to a vote :

What do you want to happen when you die?

And what do you believe will happen when you die?

    1) Live forever in this life, never die.

    2) Go to some place where you can live with your family and your creator with out worries of food, etc.

    3) Go to some place where they punish you for all the bad things you think you did in your life.

    4) Be born again in a new body with out memories of your past life.

    5) Aliens take you away to a utopia.

    6) Wake up from a very long dream.

    7) Wake up from a computer simulation.

    8) Wake up as if you didn't die, except you can now change reality with your mind (change your form or the forms of things around you, create new forms, etc).

    9) Disappear into nothingness never to exist ever again.

You're not limited to the above, they are just examples.

  • Why do askers sometimes choose answers that do not answer their question?

Like for example, someone asks for 1 quality they look for in something, and then choose the answer that has 20 qualities. Or like, they ask why is this bad thing not illegal, and they choose the answer that says why that thing is bad instead of why it is not illegal.

  • Why do people cut you off, then drive slow?

The other day, some guy cut into my lane aggressively with out signalling, so I thought they were in a rush since they were acting like they didn't have time to signal or to make a normal lane change but then started driving real slow. I've had this happen to me several times before, I'm wondering why????

  • Why does the fast lane on the freeway, sometimes go slower then the other lanes?

I sometimes wonder that, while sitting in the fast lane (left hand lane), stuck in traffic while other lanes are moving past.

I feel it's because people in the left lane are waiting to long to make there way to the exit, and end up stopping traffic looking for an opportunity in the next lane, but I don't know if that is true.

  • Am I just atoms in my brain?

I've thought about this question seriously for a long time, ever since I saw this Canadian animation "To Be" by John Weldon :

    http://www.nfb.ca/trouverunfilm/fichefilm.php?id=1...

If I were replicated exactly, would I exist in both bodies? Or is there something about the atoms in my brain that make me who I am?

That is, if I had those atoms replaced with equivalent atoms, would I no longer experience existence in this body, and some other will experience existence in my place?

  • Why are we limited to vote for only one candidate?

Is there a reason besides tradition, that it is not a good idea to allow people to rate candidates 0-10, or give votes to any number of canidates they like?
