  • What is going on with my baby?

I recently bought a 3 1/2 year old filly. Though I always favored geldings, she had such a sweet disposition, she absolutely won my heart. After almost two months together I could not be happier. She's doing great on the ground, has great manners, backs up on command, does leg yields, lunges, ties, loves to be groomed... just a joy. When we moved to our new barn 2 weeks ago, everyone was impressed on how calm and easygoing she was for such a young horse and she really seemed to like her new place and her new friends. I rode a couple of times with some other boarders in the outdoor arena. Bareback and with a saddle and we did awesome but somehow two days ago everything fell apart.

First I got a call from the stable manager telling me that my horse was charging at the fence, trying to fend off the other mares living in the outdoor corals next to hers at feeding time. She had never done that ever before yesterday and when I arrived there to do a little ground work with her she was all over the place, bucking and rearing challenging every command. When she finally calm down (20 min) she still wanted nothing to do with me. I admit I was a little puzzeled, started going down the checklist. Is it me? Is she sick? Did something happened, before I got there? Why was she so defensive with stable mates? Is it the weather? Is she in heat? The stable manager said "well if she is in heat, my stallion wil let us know" Out comes the stallion, walking down the aisle flirting with all the other mares along the way, he finally gets close to mine and wants nothing to do with her. He wouldn't even look at her!

I rub her down, trying to see of she's sore somewhere, check her feet, nothing I can see. I asked if she ate, drank her regular amount, pooped? Same, same, same. I called in the evening to check on her. They told me she was fine, didn't charge the fence when lunch or dinner was served. Oh well, maybe she was just having a off day.

When I got there this morning, she seemed more relaxed, I groomed her, played with her for a while, tacked her up and walked in the arena where my friend Liz and her horse Big Mac had already started to workout. After a 5 minutes warm up walking around I drop my irons, check my girth, get on the mounting block and get on. Liz was trotting lightly at the other end of the arena, and when she got close to us we started walking together and then Wammo! Mia went nuts. Pinned ears, rearing, charging, head tossing, I couldn't not believe it! I held on, trying to calm her down and ask Liz to get out. It took me at least half an hour to feel safe enough to get off. I removed all tack, and walked out of the arena where Mia rolled and kick for another 10 minutes.

Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on with my horse?

  • Never been to NY, I need details.?

I'm writing a short story of a girl who moves to New York from a small town (I know, very cliche), but the story doesn't revolve around that.

So, If anybody would be so kind to share some details, like noise, smell, people and how it could feel for someone who's never been to been to New York, (She's no dummy BTW The town she lived in did have cable, Internet and movie theaters, so she's seen and also read other people depiction of New York.) but you know how it is, you may think you know how it feels, but until you actually experienced it , you don't really know now do you?

What I need as specific sensory descriptions. Now I could write a great big paragraph on how the desert heat feels, I moved to Las Vegas last year and I am telling you honestly, I thought I had landed in hell. (weather wise of course) I love Vegas. But the heat... anyways.

Here's is the scenarios, she's been on the interstate bus for 9 hours, and when she arrives at The Port Authority bus terminal, it's 4h30 p.m.,on a smoldering hot July day, she read that the terminal can be somewhat confusing, not to mention busy at that time so she kinda knows what to expect.

Now, what does she see? Where is she in the terminal when she gets off the bus?1st floor, 2nd floor undergroud level? What does she smell? How bad is the crowd? How flavorful (to out it nicely) are the locals inside and outside the terminal? How does the weather feel? How bad is the noise? How hard is it to get a cab? On a bad day.

I don't want the fairytale arrival details, I want the shocking truth. If you haven't experienced it yourself (ex: you're a native New Yorker) that's cool. Tell me how you think your city might feel to a young girl who gets off the bus in Midtown in the middle of rush hour?

I already know how hard it is to get a cab during that time (shift change) and I also read so pretty funny stories about NY cabbies so you can skip that part. Just walk me through the bus terminal with your senses. Sight, sounds, smell etc...

I really wish I could take the trip myself to find out (never been to NY) but I just don't have the time right now.

    Thank you all.

    Izzy.

  • Moving back to the U.S....?

I have wrecked my brain on what is the best way to move our stuff back to the U.S. from Mexico. Has anyone ever done that move? How long did it takes and how much did it cost? I have had quotes from Mexcian Moving companies and they want almost 13K to do it! That's crazy!!!

It seems the only way to move stuff is in a container. Isn't it possible to just get a truck to drive our stuff across the border like a regular moving company does?

    I need suggestions?

    Thanks

  • Who sings that song?

It's in a shampoo commercial like pantene or something.

It's a realy upbeat song with a gospelish backgroud. Bare with me the lyrics might be wrong:

Release your inhibition feel the rain on your feet.... no one else can feel it for you, only you can let in in..... today is where your book begins the rest, is still unwritten.

  • Toothpaste question?

I just saw a commercial for Crest toothpaste. They finally have come up with a cure all toothpaste. Crest PRO HEALTH. my question is the following: If after the one that gave you better breath, the tartar remover, the baking soda and the almighty whitening one, you would assume people who care about their teeth will switch toothpaste again to use the best one possible right? Well, how come they are still selling the Original Crest?
