I am an amateur philosopher in the truest sense of both of those terms. I like William James, Robert Nozick, Kierkegaard, Schopenhauer. When I was a highschooler, I took Ayn Rand a little too seriously; now I like to debunk her. My favorite movies are "2001," "Blue Velvet," "A Clockwork Orange," "Dogma," and "Lola Rennt." My favorite music is Beethoven, followed by Phillip Glass, Kate Bush, The Talking Heads, Mike Oldfield, REM, U2, Pink Floyd, The Pet Shop Boys and Roy Orbison. I am a community theater actor and director.

3 AnswersPolitics9 years agoWhat short story is set in the Arctic, involves a serial killer and a character named Diker?
Could be Jack London, but I have my doubts as my searches of his work have been unfruitful. The protagonist was, I believe, a young teenage boy. He was in an Arctic camp with five or six men and they were gradually being murdered by one of their own. One of the men was named Diker. Story published no later than the 1970's. Was in a school textbook.

or is it "acting mysterious." (By acting, I mean "behaving" not "performing".)
7 AnswersWords & Wordplay10 years agoIs the debt ceiling deal constitutional?
I haven't read all the fine print, but it sounds suspiciously like Gramm-Rudman-Hollings, which was struck down in Bowsher v. Synar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowsher_v._Synar
2 AnswersGovernment10 years agoWhat are some Joan Armatrading songs with a beat?
I think "Drop the Pilot" (her one US chart hit) totally rocks, but most of her other songs I've played are too slow for me. What else might I like? Thanks.
3 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoWhy do my co-workers think they can talk to me when I am on the phone, so long as they whisper?
Firs of all, I think they should just wait. Don't freaking interrupt me if I am on the phone. But if they are going to breach civility like that, it only makes it worse to whisper. Then I have to continue to carry on my telecon, and try to listen to the whisperer. Sheesh!

Not Tammy Faye. A different one. This lady had longer blonde hair than Tammy Faye, but still had the heavy makeup and huge false eyelashes. And she sang.

Look at the site. They say they are in dire straits. They imply that they have lost a major source of financial support, but they don't really give details. What's going on?

Look at this story: http://www.ajc.com/news/cobb/lynn-turners-death-ru... - They say she committed suicide by overdosing on Inderal. Why would she have had enough to do that? Shouldn't they have given her one dose at a time and watched her take it?

5 AnswersComics & Animation1 decade agoHow/where does "Poker Face" sample "Always Something there to Remind Me"?
The band Naked Eyes claims that Lady Gaga sampled their version of "Always Something There to Remind Me," in her "Poker Face" but I'm danged if I can find any riff that sounds the same between the two songs. (This interview is referenced in wikipedia, too.) Where's the similarity? Thanky.

1 AnswerOther - Music1 decade agoWhere was Nixon going to get a million dollars?
From Nixon's tapes:
Nixon: How much money do you need? John Dean: "I would say these people are going to cost a million dollars over the next two years. Nixon: We could get that ... you could get a million dollars. And you could get it in cash. I, I know where it could be gotten-- Dean: Uh-uh. Nixon: I mean, it's not easy but it could be done.
What was he thinking of?
