  • 2004 Hyundai Elantra Automatic Sedan; Should I Buy It?

The Local Auto Body shop just picked up a 2004 Elantra Auto 4dr, with 54K miles at auction. It was a Bank Repo. They want $5K for it, and it needs some minor body work, which am going to *TRY* and get them to throw in for a bit more/free. I assume it was in a minor accident, have not gotten history report yet.

Also needs 2 tires, which my mechanic/tire guy says will be 100 bucks. NBD.

Every Edmunds/Consumer Reports/ Etc review i have read is for the Manual 5 Dr Hatchback. Can't find much on the Auto Sedan :(

Does anyone out there own/have owned the 04 Auto Sedan?

Are there reliable sites that have reviews of that Model out there, that i just haven't found?

I have this feeling in my gut that i should pass on it, it just makes me apprehensive for some reason.

I have a 93 Grand Caravan with 118K ATM, which gets 22 city 26 hwy, which is about the SAME as the Elantra.

Millage & affordability are my 2 major selling points.

i know it sounds silly, but my last car i got the same feeling but ignored it and then down the road it was NOTHING but trouble :(

  • pain and swelling on 2 fingers? Not carpel tunnel?

i woke up yesterday with a strange pulling sensation and dull pain in my small and ring fingers on my right hand.

Advil helped the pain and pulling feeling, but when i got home i noticed my hands were swollen slightly.

i took my rings off and went to bed, and i figured this morning the swelling would be gone, but nope.

the pulling sensation feels like it's coming from the top of my hand under the 2 fingers effected. It worsens when i stretch my fingers out.

on a scale of 1-10 the pain in a 2 at worse. i wouldn't even call it a pain, more of an "annoyance"

i'd like to head off any problems off before they get worse as i am a jewelry designer and a waitress, and my hands are vital to my ability to make money.

    i have no medical coverage.

    thanks for your help

  • How to clean old acrylic costume jewelry?

oh, what a score i found at the antique store!

old acrylic (lucite, bakelite?) strung necklaces & bracelets, funky earrings, and a TON of plastic bangles.

So much is so very lovely and i'm just itching to make things out of it, but lots of it is dirty, with a sticky dust like film on it.

anyone know how i can clean the film of without damaging the beads that seem to be painted acrylic?

they're so lovely and light weight, perfect for chunky bracelets and earrings, but i'm scared i'll destroy them :(

    any advice?

  • is a Power Shield Extended Warrenty worth the money?

someone told me about extended auto warranties through power shield, and I'm wondering if it's worth the money.

it almost looks to good to be true, they cover "everything" for 600 bucks per year!

thats just over what i pay for car insurance!

    http://www.carwarranty.com/whats_covered.asp

would i be better off just putting the 500 a year into a fund to buy a new car/cover repairs?

sure i've had one thing i had to fix that would be covered, and every other "problem' would not be covered ( exhaust system, fuel system)

i'd love to hear from people who have/had the service and have made a claim.

    thanks.

  • Cats Fighting. Do Females go through Menopause?

I have 4 cats, Xena, female, age 12 and 3 males, Squee, 8, Tweek, 7 and Spawn, 5.

Recently Xena peed on a a rug which we got second hand. I assume she did not like a smell on it, so we promptly removed and cleaned, and she has been using the litter box regualrly.

Now,a few days later, she's acting standoffish and very much like my Mom did when she went through menopause. :)

She's moody, reclusive and even picks fights with the other cats, Squee specifically.

She is fixed, and we have ruled out any health problems.

When she is alone, she is friendly, loving and enjoys being petted and brushed, just as she always has.

these cats grew up together. They've lived together in the same house for over 5 years.

    any suggestions?

  • How Long until Gums Grow Back after Wisdom Teeth Extraction?

I had my wisdom teeth out 16 days ago, all 4 we fully impacted and required oral surgery.

They are healing very well, and i had the stitches out last week.

My only question is, i have a bit of jaw bone that is covered with a very thin layer of gun tissue on both the upper jaws , where the wisdom teeth used to be. When the teeth where the the bone was fully covered with soft gum tissue, now its just a thin layer.

Both sides are a bit "sharp" for lack of a better term and i have a bad habit of hitting them with my toothbrush, which caused a sharp quick pain.

my question is, will the gum tissue grow back?

My Oral Surgeon can not see me this week but can bump someone Thursday if i ABSOLUTELY must be seen.

It doesn't hurt at all, unless i whack it with a toothbrush, and there is no pain, blood or pus.

is this something i should have someone "bumped" to get looked at, or is it normal for post wisdom teeth extraction?

  • Wisdom Teeth Come out April 20th, What to do about the pain until then?

I have an appointment to have my 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed on April 20th. (the day after my birthday, FUN!)

I don't have the $2400 saved up to do it, (will probably get a loan) so i need to save every dime i can until then.

Hopefully won't have to finance all of it.

Are there any cheap/free ways to dull the pinching/pain/ache, of the teeth until i have them pulled out?

Also, i have the option of pill sedation or IV. Pill is $130 and IV is $400. Is it worth the extra money to get the IV? I'm on a very tight budget.

    thanks,

  • Timed Out/Server Unavalible on Firefox & IE, Thunderbird won't work with one ISP but will work with another.

    OK, here's a fun one.

About 1 week ago, my dial-up connection slowed to a crawl. I was using FF 1.5, on a local ISP with a web accelerator add-on. I dug around the forums for ideas, and saw a new version of FF, and installed it.

After i installed FF 2.0, I could not load ANYTHING, got "timed out" and "server not found" messages.

TB 1.5 will not send nor receive e-mail.

I tried IE, same thing a happened, time out, server not found.

Called ISP, they said maybe FF 2.0 and they're connection or web accel program "don't get along" so i went back to ff 1.5 and removed my web accelerator program completely.

Now, with ff 1.5 it is still VERY SLOW, and TB will STILL not receive email when i dial in with my ISP.

    Here's the F-ed up part.

I tried a DIFFERENT ISP dial up, and it works GREAT! decent load time, send and receive e-mails and it NEVER times out or can't find the server. I was on line for HOURS, and NEVER had a problem.

what is going on???? I've had my ISP for 5 years with no problems, then suddenly "poof" this happens.

my ISP says they're "stumped" and i was hoping to get some idea for here, because I've talked to 4 different people at my ISP and NOTHING we've Tried works. Cleared the cache & and cookies and sock. Totally uninstalled and reinstalled IE and FF, and TB.

NAV, Spybot & Ad-Aware come up clean, both on standard load, and safe mode.

    WIN2K, fully updated.

No "screwy" software, widgets, file sharing etc.

    No on line gaming.

    No firewall, hardware or software.

  • Car CD player will not play, but tones sound. Replacement will not power on? WTF?

About 5 months ago, my Jensen Car Stereo CD player shorted out. It would still power on, and act like it was playing the song, but no audio. When i pressed the volume buttons, or any other button, the action tone would sound through the cars speakers, so we know the speakers are functioning poroperly.

This afternoon, I bought a new Unit, and before I removed the old one, i tested it, and the unit still played the song, but with no audio, and the tones played through the speakers.

My brother, who has installed HUNDREDS of Car stereos, had it in in no time, but no power?

Ground is correct, fuses and curcuit test comes up ok.

Reinstalled OLD unit, and it would power on.

exchanged new unit at store, and have same power issue with exchanged one, same model.

    what gives?

It's on an adaptor, but that's the same one that worked on the old unit. so it is doubtful that's the trouble.

Is it possible my car is just "picky"? I know, Impossible. But stranger things have happened.

  • Cat is suddenly scared of neighbor after he got too excited and yelled loudly.?

My 5 yr male cat, Spawnie, suddenly ran to me this afternoon while my Hubby and neighbor where watching Football. Neighbor get very excited and got up quickly and yelled loudly.

Spawnie ran away from him and hide behind me, and now is very scared of Neighbor. The guys even had to leave at halftime to watch the game elsewhere because Spawnie is SO afraid.

When the guy where leaving, I offered Spawnie some Catnip and pet him in another room and he seemed fine, was even purring. When the door shut and the guys were leaving down out driveway, Spawnie jumped and hid under the bed for about 30 mintes, until (silly me) he came out to get at the jar of catnip i left out in our kitchen.

I gave him some more and sat there petting him for about 10 minutes, he meowed and purred happily.

Neighbor is over everyday. Spawnie knows and likes him, until this incident. Why the sudden fear? How can we make him more accepting of Neighbor after this incident?

    I've got 4 cats, and I'm totally stumped :(

  • Unable to save photo using "save image as" command?

I am unable to save pictures using the left click "save image as" function in Windows 2000.

I have tried saving them under different file names, in a different folder and in different formats, but it will not allow me to save any of the pictures.

It acts like it is saving, but it does not save. I have searched my entire Hard drive for files, and they do not exist, even in .temp.

Virus and Parasite scan have come up clean.

  • Creeking/moaning when I make a sharp turn, CV Joint, Ball Joint or worse?

My 1999 Chevy metro, with about 60K miles on it, makes an odd noise when i make very sharp turns to the left at low speeds, and if i turn the wheels while parked. Almost sounds like a mummy moaning. :)

I've dug around and i see CV joints and ball joints are a common reason for this type of noise.

Does that still sound like a CV joint, Ball Joint or could it be something else?

I'm kinda freaking out here. I just replaced the engine due to cylander failure ( 3 seperate mechanices agreed it was the best course) and the exhaust( cuz i hit a large unmarked pothole).

Now this messed up noise has me regreting my choice to fix my car.

I see both Ball Joints ad CV Joints for pretty cheap at online autoparts stores, and here it takes a few hundred with labor at most, but I also see HORROR stories of it costing THOUSANDS!

Arm Me with knowledge before i go to the mechanic, please.

  • How do I throw a medical benefit for an individual?

One of me best friends just got the biopsy back…not good news.

She has no insurance, and the bills are already mounting, even before she was diagnosed.

I want to throw a benefit for her, but don’t even know where to begin.

Are the special rules and guidelines that must be followed? Or is it just do whatever.

Any advice and links to helpful web sites or books would be greatly appreciated.

  • Puncture Wound in bottom of heel.?

Hubby stepped on a upturned "somewhat rusty" screw at work today, has a puncture wound in the bottom of his heel. He can walk on it with "a good bit of pain". There was no bleeding, and he had a tetnous shot April 2005.

We cleaned the wound with Peroxide and put Antibotic Ointment and a sterile cotton pad on it.

    What to do next?

What are any signs he needs to see a doctor?

Would an antibotic help speed healing?

    thanks in advance.

  • wisdom tooth or abscess?

my dentist told me i could "wait awhile" to have my wisdom teeth pulled, but they need to come out "eventually". Which is good, as i won't have any more than one day off in a row until September.

Yesterday, i had a bit of food caught in my back molar, next to the unexposed wisdom tooth. I flossed it out,and it bleed a bit and hurt, so i rinsed with salt water, but it still hurts a bit now, Advil makes it nearly painless.

The gum is a bit swollen and tender. I've looked into this online, and from what i read, it MAY be my tooth erupting causing the pain, or it may be abscess.

I'm worried, is this an abscess?

I've heard an abscess can KILL YOU, so I'm afraid, but it's the weekend, and the dentist is closed. Should i go to the urgent care, or can i wait on this until i can get ahold of the dentist?

it's feeling better than it did yesteray, and there's no fever, pus or foul odor, apparently telltale signs of abscess.

  • Side Effects from Amitriptyline Normal?

I have chronic pain, and my doc prescribed 10mg of Amitriptyline, starting last night. I took it at 5:30PM, and passed out about 45 minutes later. I woke with my alarm at 5AM, and was very nauseas, and vomited. I felt like my head was in a cloud, and had vertigo like symptoms. I made some tea and ate a biscuit and sat down on the couch, and fell asleep again. i was woken up around 8AM and i then fell asleep again until about 10AM, and woke up with my heart racing. I left a message with the doctors, and sipped about 24 oz of water. I fell back asleep again sometime after that and was woken up again around 12:30 when the phone rang. It was my doc and she told me i didn't have to take the meds if i didn't want to but there would be side effects with this drug.

Are these common side effects? will they go away as i "get used" to the drug? I can't work if i can't stay awake, so I'm thinking of abandoning this treatment. Has anyone had similar issues with this drug that can give me advice?
