  • Ebay using max bid when auction price is lower?

I haven't bid on Ebay in a while but still this was a very strange situation for me. I placed a max bid on an item and just before it ended it was ~$20 less than my max bid when someone came in with a smal bid, well I autobidded higher but then immediately after Ebay shows my MAX bid and then right after that someone sniped the auction for a dollar more. I'm not mad about the snipe, I'm just confused why ebay bumped up the auction to my max bid (which the snipe paid more than my max bid, so I don't think it's just there to show me what I almost won it for.) and if this is some technique that I should be aware of when bidding again.

This is what I'm talking about, a crop of my two bids with auto showing and the increase for no reason: http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k148/Kricket_TIP...

    Thanks.

  • Calculate the [H+] in 1.0 M solution of Na2CO3 (for H2CO3, Ka1 = 4.3 × 10–7; Ka2 = 5.6 × 10–11)?

My teacher never went over polyprotic acids but he put them in the homework and I'm not sure what to do with the multiple Ka values.

  • What does mimicking gesticulation in an argument mean?

I had an argument today with someone who did a lot of hand-waving. More importantly, whatever action I did with my hands, they repeated with more emphasis and more in my face than I did to them. (I throw my hands out to the side, I hit things all the time because of it) I never mimicked their actions and noticed that once I stopped moving my hands and made it a point to keep my thumbs and fingers touching in front of my body that the person calmed down significantly although they were still unreasonable, they weren't incredibly in my face.

I did some googling but couldn't find anything on this particular situation. What do you think this means?

The gist of the argument was they felt like I did something to them on purpose (no physical, emotional or mental harm done), however it was only an accident that I didn't even realize I did until they sought me out to incite a confrontation.

  • How does applying for graduation affect financial aid at community college?

I have 5 more prerequisite classes to take before I can apply for the B.S. program I want at a university. I had some fluff classes that I took in high school that transferred over so I have 60 credits and can apply for graduation to get my A.A. but that leaves me hanging with the other classes that I need before I qualify.

Even though I am still degree seeking, if I apply for graduation at the community college level, will financial aid stop until I transfer to a university? I should go to an advisor to ask and will but since registration just started for spring the wait is ridiculous so if anyone here has any idea that would be great, thanks.

  • How can I reduce the noise of my inside air conditioner unit?

I live in an older apartment complex that has the A/C unit (or part of it, I'm not very good with things like this) in a closet in my living room. It's so loud I can't hear my TV if I turn it up to 100 and it seriously hinders my ability to think while doing work.

It's behind a pair of closet doors and I taped some cardboard to the inside to reduce some of the noise and that helped a teeny tiny bit but I need more noise reduction. I don't think an a/c blanket which was what I found through searching would suffice since those seem to be for outside units and this is not. So are there any other methods or good noise reduction materials I can tape up to the back of these doors maybe? I was thinking a foam type material to dampen the noise but if you could think of anything else that would be great.

    Thanks for your input.

  • Still getting cable (although I discontinued the service)?

I moved to an apartment and called up my local cable company to cancel the cable (kept the internet) since I don't watch TV but maybe 1-2 hours out of 168 in a week or less. I kept the cable plugged in to the TV for no real reason when I set everything up and now a few months later I'm still getting basic cable.

I watch the news sometimes now but can they scan for signals and detect that I have cable on? I called and cancelled but I imagine that it is their responsibility to put up a filter to block the signal if I stop paying. I see their trucks near the cable hub outside the apartment complex all the time so I have no idea why they wouldn't have put up some filter by now.

This isn't a case of me using an illegal cable box or messing with wiring to steal cable, I just called and cancelled but they didn't stop giving me the service. So if they do find out, can I just point the finger at them for their carelessness? The state law only mentions people who purposely tamper with equipment to avoid payment which is not what I am doing.

    Thanks for your time.

  • Trying to convince my mom it's NOT the battery? (Unless it is but doubtful)?

I had a new battery put in my car a few months ago, the previous one although dead still received a jump and had life for as long as I drove it with no problems. (I left something on inside the car and when my roomies gave me a jump she switched + and - terminals so I needed a new one, no biggie.)

Now my (un)faithful ride died again and when I tried to use one of those external battery jumpers it won't even click. She is convinced it's my battery although all signs point to it being a different issue. I didn't leave any lights on, although a few days ago my blinker lights were on somehow, I had to actually start the car and stop it to get them to shut off, and it has some other weird electrical issues (the antenna is broken and unless I smack it sometimes it won't stop trying to fold down inside the car, forever) that are probably causing a drain on the battery but wouldn't mean there's a problem with the battery, but a problem with the electric system.

So really my questions are: 1) Could it be that the external battery jumper she gave me is just crap? (someone is always parked next to me and I don't know who they are so I can't get a jump from them.)

I'd call AAA but like I said, someone is pulled up next to me and the other side of me is a wall so that's not a lot of help unless I want to tow it and I don't. I've had three actually dead batteries during my travels and all of those cars started fine and let me get to a place to replace the battery at least, this time it isn't doing that. (All of those times with the same make model car but different years.)

    2) So do I try to get a jump from a real car or should I just have AAA tow it to a shop for me?

    Thanks for any help.

P.S. I barely use my car so it isn't an emergency and the make/model/year is Hyundai Sonata 2003 if that means anything. New battery, I change oil every 4k, live in Florida so it's hella hot right now, V6 engine, don't use A/C that much and have been making 3 (6 minute) mile trips to school with some long 30 min trips spread out. My car is my "torrential rain on finals day" insurance policy, other than that it sits there taking up space.

  • Find out more about vintage china?

I have two sets of china, black knight trentino and old ivory from my grandmother. I'm trying to find out more about them, specifically prices and I'm having a hard time. Anyone know of a good resource for prices or history of the product?

  • I recently started a vegan diet and....?

And now I dream about eating pizza, tacos and ice cream. Is that normal? I am only trying a vegan diet to challenge myself and become a better cook. It's worked so far, I made the most amazing pancakes..but then I had a day dream about burritos.

  • Whirlpool dryer issue?

I went to start a batch of clothes and when I hit the start button it made a loud pop noise then went to just buzzing. I did a quick search and found that the motor could be bad but when I push the door trigger and turn the drum while pressing the start button the dyer starts and heats but it won't turn the drum. It'll stay active as long as I turn the drum only so I don't think the motor is bad but I'm not an appliance repairman.

Is this a bad motor or bad belt perhaps? I wonder what made that pop noise too.

  • Ipad 1 or 2 for travel photo editing on the go?

You can obviously find some great deals on a used ipad 1 but my main reason for wanting the thing in the first place is to have something to store, edit (lightly) and upload photos from my travels around the country. I don't care much for face time or using it to take the photos but is the A5 and better display on the ipad 2 worth say an extra ~$150?

For example: a 32GB ipad 1 w/ 3G is ~$350. An ipad 2 16GB wifi only is ~$419. These are preowned or used prices since I'm on a budget.

I throw myself to the mercy of yahoo answers to seek a solution. To those who say get a different tablet, recommend something that would be better/easier for photo solutions.

Also, I don't care much for video and will take less than a few minutes worth at any given moment.

    Thanks!

  • Best bike for 23 mile commute?

One way. So 46 mile total daily. I know I need a road bike but would a fixie or a gear bike be better? It's going to be in Florida where the only hills are landfills so I'm not sure if gears are necessary.

  • How would you feel about this in a retail store?

You walk in to buy a product you don't know how to use but are told you need and the sales person tells you about a service they offer to teach you how or install it for you, but doesn't show you how or will only show you a little bit?

    How would you react?

  • Why are old people so rude?

I live in South Florida. Capital of the snowbirds and retirees. They're total jerks 80% and give nice old people a bad name. Do you think they're just grumpy because they're living in living purgatory?

  • What's your favorite open source CMS?

I've used Drupal for years and I want to learn a new program. I'ved tried concrete5, CMS made simple, wordpress and joomla but I didn't like any of them. Do you have any suggestions for a CMS like Drupal but maybe not as convoluted?
