Been working part-time at a law office as a law clerk. Typically the hours were 20-24 hours/week.

On the week of March 25, my boss gave me a big file and told me to take it and work from home due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

A week later (April 3), I received an email from my boss that due to the extension of the lockdown, there's a significant slowdown of work and wasn't sure how many hours the office was able to provide for the law clerks (there are 5 part-time law clerks working there, including myself). He picked up the file he gave me, and said I will hear from one of the staff in the future with no definite time frame.

As of that day, I have had no work. I wasn't explicitly told that I am laid off or fired. I am still in their payroll system (I just won't have any hours for them, so wont get paid).

Am I considered laid off in this case? Do I qualify for unemployment benefits under the covid19 stimulus package?

I was born in Korea and lived there until 8 years old, then I moved to Portland, OR and graduated high school there (10 years). Then I moved down to Los Angeles for college and been living there for 8 years (college + work) now. I will be moving to central Illinois for grad school soon and know that I will have to answer this question many times.

The most obvious answer is probably Korea since I was born there and spent my early childhood. But Korea doesn't really feel like home to me anymore. I stopped feeling that way ever since I entered middle school when I finally became comfortable with English and started assimilating to the local culture.

Oregon is where I spent my adolescent and really where most of my childhood memories lie. So I am fairly comfortable in saying that Oregon is my "hometown."

Is it more accurate to say that I'm from Oregon? Or are people looking to find out my ethnic origin (I can't change my looks)? Or is Los Angeles more appropriate since that is technically where I last resided?

For those that support these views, what reasons do you have that do not involve any religious values/reasoning?

My gf and I will be visiting St. Louis (first time) in a couple weeks for just one night. I m looking to book a hotel in an area with an active nightlife, not necessarily clubs but somewhere with lots of lounges and bars that open late (I m going midweek, probably wednesday-thursday).

People say liberalism is about social equality with active government involvement in promoting that agenda.

By definition then, conservatism would mean the exact opposite - upholding social hierarchy with very little government interference.

But people also say that the extreme left in the political spectrum would be socialism in that government controls everything with no social disparity.

What would be the extreme right in the political spectrum? Would it be anarchy because there shouldn t be any government? Or would be it Authoritarianism because it is the epitome of social hierarchy?

White men are overprotective of their ideology (politics, religion, opinions).

Asian men are overprotective of their women.

Black men are overprotective of their Beats and Jordans.

I live in a Latino community in LA (Westlake) and most Latinos I've met have been mostly very laid back and rarely get angry or over-protective unlike people of other races. Try attacking a white man's opinion on politics/religion and he will instantly fire back at you. Try hitting on Asian women and you'll get a very angry Asian right at your face telling you to back off. And try taking Jordans and Beats from a Black guy, good luck not getting jumped.

What would I have to try to take from Latinos in order to get them pissed off?

-Against Affirmative Action or any legislature that discriminate based on race

-Climate Change is overstated. It is true but highly exaggerated.

-Against Nation-building in the Middle East

-Domestic Policy (Education, Economy, Welfare) comes before National Security (Military)

-Hate Social Justice Warriors (Black Lives Matter, 3rd Wave Feminists, etc.)

My credit score is bad... somewhere between 550-570. My plan is to get this increased to at least 680 within 12 months.

I have a credit line open, and I recently paid the entire $3000 off in 6 months. The balance as of last month is $0.

I was told that if I keep it at $0 without using it, the credit report will view it as on-time payment every month (even if I don't actually pay it off since there won't be any amount to pay), and will help increase the score. However, people are telling me that $0 balance will NOT help my credit score if I don't actually use it since I'm not technically paying off any amount.

Which is true?

Going to San Diego with my girlfriend next weekend, and it's our 1 year so I wanna make this somewhat luxury.

We are a young couple in 20's so not looking for a senior house :D A place somewhat young and near waterfront (planning on enjoying some Jetskiing and Kayaking) yet not too crowded with college kids.

Who would win in the end?

I majored in Economics at UCLA, the major GPA is 3.4 but I did horrible in accounting courses (Accounting minor) with a 2.9 GPA. Together, cumulative GPA comes to 3.2.

However, I passed the CPA exam and has been working as a corporate accountant as a CPA since for 4 years. Will my passing of CPA offset my horrible undergrad grades in accounting courses?

My goal is Northwestern Law but I'd like to know if I have a chance at other schools of equal caliber with my LSAT and GPA. Thanks.

Long story short...

9 months ago, my gf used to be 115 lbs at 5'4.

Now, she weighs 135 lbs.

If I don't hint at her weight anytime soon, she will continue to gain weight. Sexual arousal is a big part for me, and I want her to look good naked. Luckily she does not yet have rolls of fat but soon enough it will get there.

Am I supposed to ignore her weight problem and be "sensitive" to her feelings instead of my arousal?

How can I address this to her without coming off as a douche?

So I'm going on a trip to Las Vegas in a few weeks, and my girlfriend wants to put clubbing in the itinerary.

I'm looking for a club that's not too crowded or stuffy, not too long line, yet with decent vibe and music. I want somewhere with a night view of the Strip. Something like the Mix Lounge.

XS, Marquee, and Hakkasan are good but the lines can get pretty ridiculous on Fridays and Saturdays.

Any suggestions?

So on 09/19/2014, my employer filed bankruptcy.

I'm get paid bi-weekly.

Check I received on 08/22/2014 bounced because the employer cancelled all paychecks due to lack of fund in the bank account.

My next payday, which was 09/05/2014, I received the check but the company insisted that I hold on to the check and not deposit it because there was no money in the bank account.

My next payday was 09/19/2014, which was the day the company officially shut down and filed bankruptcy. I never received my paycheck .

So with 1 bounced check, 1 check that is never deposited, and 1 check that I never received, I'm behind three paychecks, which comes to around $4,500.

I read somewhere that an employee is compensated up to $11,000 in California if the employer files bankruptcy, which means I can get paid fully. Where can I report to get my money paid? And if so, how soon will I be paid? I already applied for unemployment, if that means anything.

Let's say I was hired on 05/01/2012 by ABC company. Late in 2013, the owner of the ABC company set up a new corporation named AAC (with a new EIN), and started paying me under AAC starting 01/01/2014. The management people stays the same, my boss is the same exact guy, and my workplace is located in the same exact address. However, company AAC laid me off in September 2014.

When I apply for unemployment benefit, it asks me to fill out a list of my employer in the past 18 months. In my scenario, should I liste AAC and ABC as two different employers or would they be considered as one employer?

Utilitarians believe the best choice of action is one that maximizes benefit while minimizing suffering.

This vegan that I know made some radical statement that roughly translates to this:

"Any person that willingly consumes meat despite knowing the reality of the brutality and cruelty of factory farming needs to be killed off since it will be more beneficial to everyone, collectively speaking"

This person then goes off claiming how if everyone turned vegan, things like poverty, environmental pollution, and numerous illnesses (including cancer) will be reduced, therefore benefiting everyone in the long term.

Is this person's reasoning justified under the utilitarian ideology?

I'm trying to transfer an image over to powerpoint. I used the photoshop tool to erase the background so only the main items show. However, when I drag the image over to powerpoint, the erased background is shown as white. How do I get rid of the white so it's transparent?
