My name is Randy and I am a family-loving, loud-laughing, sweet-smiling, happy-go-lucky, evil-when-angered kind of guy. I turned 19 on July 25th, this year; I in my second semester at Valencia Community College, and I am a person of the finer arts. That means, I love God (Jesus, I'm a Christian, not Muslim, Buddhist, Catholic or a member of any of those other religious beliefs) I love the study of mythology, legend, myth, folklore and the paranormal (I'm working on a book listing and defining the various different superhuman abilities) I love animals (I have two cats) and other various aspects of nature. I love to read, talk (and listen) to friends, and write (stories, plays, poems). I find myself to be a cultured person, but I have a strange sense of humor. I'm very strange in many other aspects as well (I would describe myself as "Blissfully Eccentric") but that's what makes me me.

  • What happened to the website Liber Paganum?

Liber Paganum, for those of you who don't know, is a site filled with information on deities and spirits from numerous mythologies all over the world.

And, recently, I went looking for it, to find it gone.

Though, this site didn't go down simply on the main servers of the internet; it seems to be completely inaccessible, even on the Internet Archive ( http://archive.org/index.php ) where I can normally find all sorts of old sites that have been since shut down.

Does anybody know why it hasn't shown up there, or if the site has maybe been moved to another address, or something? I'd really like to be able to access this site again.

    Thanks. :)

  • Myths about objects moving, talking and/or coming to life?

Are there any stories in mythology, legend or folklore about inanimate objects moving around on their own, talking or coming to life in any other way, shape or fashion? If you could please tell me the name of the myth, its origin and your source, that would be great help to my research! Thanks in advance!

  • Myths about beings born from humans and dragons?

I know I've come across them before, but I exactly forget where.

Does anybody know where to find myths about one human parent and one dragon parent mating to produce human-dragon hybrid offspring? What were they called (aside from 'Half-Dragons')? What were some physical features, behaviors, powers and weaknesses they displayed? How were they treated by their societies?

I'd love to know as much about them as you have to offer.

BTW, I'd appreciate if your answer came from MYTHOLOGY, please. Mythology, legend and/or folklore, if you don't mind. I don't need any references from TV or recent books. I know about recent works featuring dragons and humans having children.

I want to know if any similar stories exist within ancient mythology. And if they do, I'd like to know what source you got the information from, so that I can cite it in my research as well.

I know I've come across them before, but I exactly forget where.

Does anybody know where to find myths about people born from one human parent, and one dragon parent? What were they called (aside from 'Half-Dragons')? What were some physical features, behaviors, powers and weaknesses they displayed? How were they treated by their societies?

I'd love to know as much about them as you have to offer.

And sources (book or internet) would be most appreciated, so I can verify mythological validity, please. Thanks, in advanced, to all who reply seriously and thoughtfully!

  • What's with Wikipedia?

Does anybody have any idea why Wikipedia isn't up and running right now? It's coming up as though the site is down! Hopefully, the change isn't permanent!

  • Any sources to verify this?

I love to research mythology, and in my surfing the internet, I have found the following statement declared numerous times.

"An ophidian is a snake-like spirit from Middle-Eastern (primarily Persian) mythology. Ophidians were said to come to a person as they woke up & steal their memories, especially the memories of what had happened to them while they were in the world ruled by Morpheus."

I like the concept of snake-like dream spirits, and I would love to include them in the mythical creature wiki I participate on. However, I'm not certain of the validity of the information. In searching for other sources, with more information on the creature, I only keep coming across the same passage. So, to those of you who also know about mythology, can you help?

Help me find a source, please, or help verify that this creature does not exist in authentic mythology. Thanks so much in advanced!

  • The title of this science book?

I've been scouring the Internet for the name of a book I received some years ago, and lost just recently.

It has a yellow hardcover, with a ladybug and a satellite on it, and I got it in the 90's, so it still lists Pluto as a planet. Yet, it's not just a space science book. It features information of animals near the beginning, and space science and technology near the end. I don't know what company made it, and I don't have a clue as to any keywords that are in the title, but I'd really love to find it, because, aside from the Pluto thing, it's a great book.

I apologize, I don't have much specifics to go on, but if somebody could suggest some titles matching my description for me to look up, so I could replace the book, then it would be most appreciated.

  • Is there a way to recover lost images that haven't been saved in the Internet Archive?

After a website has been deleted, do they continue to exist, even if they aren't saved in the Internet Archive? If so, is it possible to contact someone to find those images? I lost the ability to find some images a few years ago, and I'd really like to know if it's possible to recover them again. Thanks, to anyone with a valid, helpful answer!

  • What is this creature called in Slavic Myth?

Today, I was searching for mythical creature images on Google, and found one that looks really cool. It's a rainbow bird with a humanoid face, and numerous captions I come across say it's from Slavic mythology. Though, no source I've crossed so far has given me a name for this creature. Is it a spirit? A demon? A deity? Please check the link, and let me know.

  • Movie about Psychic/Psionic powers?

There was a movie I saw some years ago. Four kids (two boys, two girls) gained superhuman powers, and used their powers on the members of their school. One boy had Telepathy, the other boy had Regenerative Healing powers; one girl had Telekinesis and the other girl had what was referred to as "Sympathetic Coercion", a type of persuasion ability. Can anybody give me a clue as to what the name of the movie is called? My google searching skills apparently aren't enough to find it.

Even a list of psionic/psychic/superpower based movies would help. Thanks.

  • Ophidian-Serpentine Memory and Dream Spirits in Middle Eastern (Persian) Mythology?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ophidian

Can anyone confirm the mythical validity of this Wikipedia article? Are there any sources showing that these spirits are actually part of mythology (Middle Eastern or otherwise)? Have you heard of it before, or studied it anywhere? If so, where? Sources appreciated and badly needed. Help!

  • Magnets and Magnetism in Mythology?

Mythology has a lot of ideas, concepts and themes that exist even into the modern day (though, in different forms; for example the Greek Myth Cosmogony has elements similar to the Big Bang Theory). I wonder...does anyone know about mentions of magnets and magnetism (or something similar to it) anywhere in mythology?

If so, I would love to know. Sources and resources would be much appreciated, as well.

  • Do creatures exist, in mythology, that steal names and/or faces/identities?

I know that, in witchcraft and other pagan practices, there is a reference to a being or creature's 'true name', the essence of a creature's identity. I also know about Koh the Face Stealer, in Avatar: The Last Airbender, and other TV shows and stuff. But I'm wondering, does anyone know of any actual creatures and beings in mythology, legend and folklore that can 'steal' the names or identities of other beings?

  • My cat is so weird! Can someone help me decipher his mannerisms?

My cat, a 2-year-old male, has always been timid and skittish. He never lets me pet him or pick him up, and if I manage to do so, he fidgets until I put him down. And yet, for some strange reason, he always comes when I call for the other cats. And when I walk away from him, he always follows me, and keeps his eyes on me, like he's surprised I'm walking away! What gives? Anybody have a clue what's going on with him?

  • Is the deity Adreus Greek or Roman in origin?

I research different mythological deities in my spare time. I really like mythology. But one thing perplexes me. I found a link online featuring an e-book with lots of different deities, some Greek, some Roman, some Norse, etc. And one I found was Adreus, a god who presided over the ripening of corn. But, it never makes clear what mythology Adreus came from. Does anyone know? If you could tell me, it would be of great help to me! Thanks!

  • About kitsune of mythology...?

I'm currently doing an article on the mythical Japanese fox spirits, called Kitsune. I've found plenty of information, but there are still some blanks that need to be filled.

In particular, Kitsune of good moral alignment are referred to as 善狐 ("zenko"), or 命婦 (myōbu). Likewise, Kitsune of evil or mischievous moral alignment are referred to as 野狐 (yako) or nogitsune.

See the problem? There's no Japanese characters for nogitsune. Can anyone help me find out what those Japanese characters? I'm not sure what dialect I should look for it in, either (Kanji, etc).

Suggestions are appreciated, especially if you fluently speak and/or understand Japanese.

  • Do werejackals exist in mythology?

I know that werefoxes exist in mythology. Definitely werewolves. And werecats and numerous other werecreatures/werebeasts.

But is there any mythology that features werejackals (commonly called in fantasy and fiction, "jackalwere")?

If you know about a resource for it in mythology, I'd greatly appreciated if you provided a link or an annotated resource. Thanks, in advanced!

  • Are the Gorgades and the Gorillai the same mythical tribe?

The Gorgades and the Gorillai (from whom modern gorillas derive their species name) are both described as being very hairy women. And yet I can only find information on the Gorgades. Is this because the Gorillai and the Gorgades are one and the same, or is there something I'm missing? Please help, because the research is torture. If there's something about these tribes in mythology, please let me know, and tell me your sources, it would help a great deal.

Oh, and PLEASE no sarcastic answers. I actually DO need help.

  • Does this sound crazy?

This may seem a little bonkers, but I've had my beliefs questioned in the past by atheists, and I'm sick of it. People tell me that the "myth" of Jesus was based on Thammuz, an ancient god of the pagans, or off of sun gods of the past, and that he "represented" the concept of birth, life, death and resurrection. Well, if we can assume, by a pure jump of logic, that Jesus (as well as his works and teachings) gains his basis from the gods of old like Odin, and Osiris and the like, can't we also just flat out say that atheists' idea of the big bang was based off of the old Orphic Greek Myth of creation? It does state that all matter just came into existence from the world-egg without explaining where the world-egg came from (just like open question of what generated the singularity from which all matter, energy and life supposedly arose in the big bang theory)

look it up on http://www.theoi.com/Protogenos/Phanes.html (Phanes, the god of creation, for those of you who don't mind reading)

Somebody respond as quick as you can so I can put this to bed.
