  • Buddhists on destiny...?

Hello. I am relatively aware of the perspectives of different Buddhists on destiny, but I have a few 'ultimate questions' that need answering for an assignment. Any answers would be greatly appreciated, and to any Buddhists who may answer, it would also be helpful if you could state what particular type of Buddhism you adhere to.

    1. What is destiny?

    2. Is destiny valid and if so to what extent?

    3. Is destiny largely shaped by karma, or is it the other way around?

    4. Can destiny be changed? (I know, I know, Google is my friend, but I need it in my own interview)

Telling me why these questions may perhaps be silly would also be very helpful. Thank you.

  • Triple display with imac 21.5"...?

I'm aware that it only has one thunderbolt port thing and thus a triple display setup isn't said to be possible with it, but I was wondering if I could use a thunderbolt->dvi adapter, then a dual dvi adapter, then run each monitor off of that. Does anyone know if this would work? I suppose it would be a strain in terms of graphics/data going through one thunderbolt port, but I'm no expert. I have the most recent imac btw. Thanks

  • Is the Buddhist teaching ‘do no hard to sentient beings’ in favour of stem cell research,?

since there is no sentience in an embryo until a considerable amount of develop occurs?

Is the destruction of embryos - in your opinion - justified by the potential developments that could greatly reduce suffering?

or is the very destruction of them like killing someone/thing?

(any other personal justification as to yes/no regarding the destruction of embryos for stem cell research is welcome)

hopefully this question is worded a little better

  • How to dual boot windows 8 on imac with osx lion?

just the trial. bootcamp says it wont work unless the harddrive is in a single partition, which is pretty inconvenient... besides, it wouldn't let me mount an iso anyway. everything was greyed out, all it would let me do is download driver updates for a phantom os.

.. vmware fusion wouldn't let me install windows to anything other than its 'virtual' ... er.. thingo... (it runs inside vmware fusion, inside osx).. so that works fine but it's pretty boring, i'd much rather be able to legitimately dual boot from startup.

i have refit installed but it wont recognise any of my installation attempts, which are all pretty feeble since nothing will let me actually copy the install files/install to a partition on the hdd. so when i start it up the only option to load is osx on the hdd and it'll show an sd card or ipod if they're plugged in, think it says 'legacy,' which, when entered, yields nothing but 'no operating system,' hahhaa. no surprise i suppose. it won't recognise other hdd partitions... and now im pretty sure i can't get rid of them, unless i delete pretty much everything

tried using a few usbs and sd cards as start up drives, erhh...

just wondering what other programs are out there, i guess. boot camp wouldn't let me install win8 even before i partitioned... now it's saying that i need a single journaled hdd sector.... well, as far as i know, they're all journalled.... anyway, i'm new to macs so anything is appreciated.

i'm sure this was pretty incoherent but thanks, guys, for anything. ^_^

  • How does Chinese Pure Land Buddhism view the Pali Canon?

As opposed to the traditional Theravada perspective of the Pali Canon?

What social, cultural and political factors in China have led them too see it differently?

I know it's a pretty broad question but hey anything helps

  • Help: Brief interview with a Muslim regarding Pilgrimage?

Hi, I'm studying religion at my high school and I was wondering if you could help me out. I'm mostly looking for answers from Muslims but an answer from anyone would be good, just mention which religion you adhere to - if any.

It's fine if you don't want to tell me your information (Very understandable) but I'm meant to get some basic contact details. Maybe in a private message?

the additional details I am supposed to have are your- name

    - Address... (Maybe just country or state)

    - Phone number (It's fine If you choose not to, it was just an optional criteria)

    - Best method of contact (maybe email)

Here are the questions: -1. What is a pilgrimage to you?

-2. Would you also classify a pilgrimage as a celebration/festival?

-3. In your opinion, why do people get involved in pilgrimages?

-4. Do you agree with the common objectives associated with pilgrimages? (Such as strengthening your identity, etc.) If not, what do you think (or have you experienced) that was different?

    Much appreciated. :)
