  • Are people in Northern Ireland generally taller or shorter than people in the Republic of Ireland?

I'm curious, and I think the Northern Irish are a little taller (except for the occasional short woman?) but I haven't found any data.

  • Can a light-haired person have naturally dark eyebrows AND light eyelashes?

I'm pretty sure vice versa (light hair + light eyebrows + dark eyelashes) happens often.

  • Will my hair regain its thickness?

My hair used to be relatively thick. Then I got a problem with split ends. I developed the habit of pulling my split ends apart, which damaged my hair. I had this habit for almost a year.

About 4-5 months ago, I got my hair cut, from mid-back length to shoulder length. I quit the habit, cutting my split ends off instead of separating them. My hair hasn't gotten any thicker.

I thought the thinning was only from my split-end picking habit, but my mother has very thin hair that was thicker when she was younger. Also my eyelashes, eyebrow hairs, and er, private hairs have been falling out a lot.

  • I'm having many dreams where I'm killing people?

Here are some details about the dreams:

    1. So far, all the people I've killed in my dreams are men I don't know, or at least don't remember.

    2. The victim either wants to die, or is really evil and I'm killing them for justice.

I was also having most of these dreams when I was feeling really depressed or even suicidal.

I'm trying to cancel a not-yet-shipped package. When I get to the return page, it won't allow me to select a reason and valid quantity, thus not allowing me to file a cancellation.

  • How do Jehovah's Witnesses view hypnosis? If it's negative, how can I convince them it's safe?

I don't care myself because I'm agnostic, but my parents are Jehovah's Witnesses and I still live with them. And it'll probably be for longer than I'd like to.

I desperately need a therapist, but my family is poor and always preoccupied. So I've been using hypnosis to calm down and improve my mental performance. I've heard from a Jehovah's Witness that she was looked down upon for using hypnosis therapy, that the other people in her congregation felt it was demonic. I think they're just uneducated about it, hypnosis can't really force you to do something you don't want to. It'll be nice to tell my parents about my hypnosis sessions, so they won't interrupt me as much. Does any Jehovah's Witness literature have anything to say on hypnosis?

  • Are there any animals with eyes on the sides of its head with ears pointing forward?

So, cats have eyes and ears pointing forward, being prolific predators.

Rabbits and horses have eyes and ears on the sides of their heads, being prey animals that need a wide range to look out for predators.

We simians are weirdos with eyes pointing forward and ears on the sides of our heads. Are there any animals that are the opposite of that? (they don't count if they can move their ears to face the front, the ears have to be forward "by default")

  • How is red hair generally viewed in Ireland?

Most answers I've gotten are on the lines of "well red hair is really really common in Ireland so nobody cares" but Scotland has just as high of a red hair rate (if not more) and gingers are often looked down upon there as much as England.

I read somewhere that sperm donated from red-haired men has most demand in Ireland. So it's a positive trait?

  • Eyelashes falling out at rapid rate?

I haven't put on eye make-up in months, but my problem did start after I used LashBlast mascara. Now every time I wipe my eye, eyelashes are falling out. Everyday I lose at least 4.

  • Are widow's peaks more/less common in certain ethnic groups?

I have a feeling they're more prominent in East Asians and Native Americans, but I'm not sure.

I've never seen a black person with anything but a straight hairline.

  • Do lionesses commit infanticide (of rival prides' cubs)?

(another lion question, haha) I know male lions do, especially when they replace the males in a pride. I'm wondering if the lionesses will kill the cubs that aren't theirs' or their relatives'. Many rodent species and even domestic cats have this kind of behavior, and lionesses are very hostile to females they aren't related to.

  • Can I boil flavored carbonated water? Can I make tea with carbonated water?

I love my tea but our tap water is disgusting, and we don't buy bottled water because it's a waste of money. We do, however, have a pack of carbonated water (seltzer) with orange essence. Could I boil it in an electric kettle? Would it be too much of a "foreign" liquid? Is the boiled result going to taste unpleasant? I know it'll be flat, but I wonder if it would taste as bad as a soda sitting around overnight with no cap.

  • Are lions considered patriarchal or matriarchal?

Or neither? With the males being larger, stronger, aggressive, successfully infanticidal and taking the kills first, it would seem like the dudes rule. But I have seen zoologists describe them as matriarchal, because the prides are primarily based on the bonds of the females, and the females do most of the hunting. There seem to be the "aggressive" matriarchies like that of hyenas and lemurs where the females are masculinized and inherently dominate the males, or ones like that of elephants and horses where they're led by a female but the males are still tougher. I'm wondering what's "required" for a species to be matriarchal.

  • Why are most ginger cats male, but black cats are 50/50?

So, males have one X chromosome, and the genes for coloring are on the X's. A tom with the orange gene results in a ginger cat, while females have another X that often has black/brown color, resulting in a tortie or calico.

So why do non-red cats. or at least solid black cats, not have a male majority? Do black cats have a non sex-linked gene for melanism?

  • Is chocolate poisonous to all carnivorans?

What I know is that it can be deadly to cats and dogs, but rats and mice can tolerate it as much as humans can. Would theobromine affect an omnivorous carnivoran like a bear or raccoon?

  • Are reptiles affected by skunk's spray?

I know that all mammalian predators are driven off by skunk spray, while the Great Horned Owl is a serious predator of skunks because birds have little to no sense of smell. I'm wondering, would a reptile like a snake find the skunk's spray unpleasant? Would it affect them in any way?
