  • Has prom gone too far? Has anyone else come into contact with what I call "promzillas"?

Every year as a floral designer the prom queens that come in with their mothers to order flowers get more and more obnoxious and demanding. Has prom become a nauseating display of spoiled children and over-indulgence? When a CHILD demands more time for a simple floral piece for a prom than a bride does for a once-in-a-lifetime event, is something wrong here? I have had prom attendees bring in gowns in person and obsess over the simplest things and spend enormous quantities of time over simple flowers to the point that it makes it very difficult to even be willing to offer advice to these incredibly spoiled and rude little girls and the mothers who allow them to behave this way. What, if anything, to do about all this? Anyone else ever have similar experience.....hair stylists, manicurists, dress shops, limousine services, etc...??

  • Would you correct a teacher's incorrect information?

My daughter is in 6th grade. Today in her social studies class, the teacher was discussing the topic "fjords". A student pronounced it "fuh-jord" with a hard J sound, and she agreed and repeated it, saying this was correct. My daughter knew it was not correct, but said nothing. This is sadly far from the first time that we have had to deal with incorrect information coming directly from a teacher in more than one school district. Would you correct this and if so, how?

  • How can you be sure what nationality a person is?

I have recently read a number of replies to admittedly naive or silly questions and a few responses have included "stupid Americans" or similar such comments. Other questions are specific to the asker's home country, and somehow other individuals native to the asker's home country seem to be able to hone in on them. A certain do-it-yourself home repair question was apparently asked by someone from England and the English replies were what the asker was looking for.

My question is, do people genuinely know that the person they are communicating with is a certain nationality or are they just being a bit rude? I personally could care less what country someone is from and find it hurtful to characterize someone based on silly stereotypes.

  • Suggestions for painting interior wood sliding door?

I have a set of sliding glass doors with unfinished wood interior. The exterior is white vinyl. I need to paint the interior with a white semi-gloss to match the white trim inside the house. I have removed almost all the weather-stripping pieces and am about to wipe the wood down to make sure it is dust free, then will tape off what I don't want to get paint on, but does anyone know which parts get painted first, or are there any tricks or suggestions for the easiest way to do this. I've got about 6 hours before it's going to be dark and need to finish today. Getting out the strips was hard enough and I wanted to make sure I am well-prepared before I get painting. Any help??

  • Too dry to fertilize yard?

We seeded a new front yard 6 weeks ago and used starter fertilizer at that time. Now, it is time to fertilize for the second time, but it has been VERY dry and hot here. It has rained only twice since we seeded, so we have gotten it to grow only by regular watering. I was going to fertilize this morning and then water it well, but our neighbor tells me I am going to burn it all by doing that. It's going to be 90 degrees today, tomorrow and the next day, with no rain in the forecast, but I was planning on watering well at least today and tomorrow to prevent burning. Would you still fertilize?

  • Keeping dark hardwood floors clean?

I have dark cherry floors in my main living area which are less than 1 year old. They are in good condition, but with 4 kids and multiple pets, 20 minutes after vacuuming and cleaning them, they look filthy again. Some wood floor cleaners make it look smeary and some make it seem like it has a residue. What is the best cleaner to use that leaves no residue or streaks or mess behind and is still safe enough for the wood? I prefer something that can be sprayed on with a trigger-sprayer as I have a wide terry-cloth covered mop that I use on this. Thanks.
