What does "nix" mean in American English?
One of my American contacts used it in a message, and it was only after a while that I realized it sounds very much like a Dutch word we use a lot, but it doesn't necessary have the same meaning. So I was wondering if you guys could tell me what it means in the US?
Thanks in advance!

If you also know what it means, that would be great. I got it from a song, but I have no idea what language it is.
7 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoRevenir de France ou de la France?
Lorsqu'on a été en France (en vacances par exemple) et on rentre dans son pays, dit-on "je reviens de France" ou "je reviens de la France"? Ma maman discutait de ceci avec un ami l'autre jour et il pense que c'est l'un, tandis qu'elle pense que c'est l'autre. Du coup, ils me font hésiter... :)
J'aimerais surtout l'avis de personnes de nationalité française.
Merci.
5 AnswersLangues1 decade agoJe lis "il fait du soleil". Est-ce correct?
J'habite en Belgique et je n'ai jamais entendu dire qu'il faisait du soleil. Personnellement, je dis "il y a du soleil" ou "il fait beau".
Pouvez-vous me dire si l'expression "il fait du soleil" est correcte? Si oui, dans quelle(s) région(s)?
7 AnswersLangues1 decade agoWhy do so many people write "alot"?
I'm pretty sure it has to be "a lot", in two words. I'm afraid if this kind of mistakes is not corrected, a lot of people will not know anymore what the correct spelling is. Not only for "alot", but also "kinda" for example. Doesn't it bother you guys? And what can we do about it?
7 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoWhat does "skit" mean (in English)?
Someone thanked me for a French translation and added "skit for French class". Is it something typical for school or is it slang, used by the youngsters?

I notice in everyday life both are used with the same meaning, but I learned long time ago that there was a difference. Does anyone know which one?

Examples (that we can't use because they already exist):

5 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoI am looking for the dance description of 'Mocirita'.
It's a beautiful Romanian dance. I know most of it, but I'm just hesitating about a few of the steps.
If you have a link to a video, that would be helpful too.
3 AnswersDancing1 decade agoCan anyone tell me what "loane sunana" means?
I don't even know what language it is. I received a text message from an unknown number that said "loane sunana", nothing else.
It was sent to me either as a joke, or by mistake, I don't know...
I'm just curious about the meaning now.
2 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoHow do you say in different languages…?
• Please do not stand here.
• You have to clear the passage for the performers.
• The entrance for the public is over there.
• Don’t stand still, please, the procession has to move forward.
Or viariations on these sentences (with translation of course :) )
I’d like to know especially in Spanish and Italian, but other European languages are welcome too.
Thanks.

Je ne sais plus exactement comment c'était, mais ça ressemble à:
De la conception naît le développement
Du développement naît la pensée
De la pensée naît le souvenir
Du souvenir naît la conscience
De la conscience naît l’envie
