  • Will an amplifier block a floating ground?

Specifically this amp http://schiit.com/products/magni which I bought to drive my 250ohm Beyerdynamic DT 770s

I'm considering getting this DAC http://schiit.com/products/modi if it doesn't help

I'll be running a line-out from my PC to the amp, using a Xonar DG internal, but for some reason I'm getting a ground loop whine, it may be the switch I'm using but just in case, will the amp alone be enough? (I need it anyways)

  • Can another person use a car with a handicap license plate?

I have severe asthma which qualifies me for a handicap plate. I already have the tag, but it's falling apart and I do qualify for a permanent plate. The problem is that my wife uses my car quite a bit, even though she has her own (I think she just likes the leather seats, Volvos are quite nice on the inside.) so I was wondering, if I get a permanent license plate, will she still be able to use the car?

  • Are there any proper motorcycles that don't require a special license?

I have a friend who has a standard class d driver's license, and he's interested in getting a bike for local travel (his job takes him all over a 20-mile radius surrounding his office) because they get much better mileage than cars and are much easier to just hop on and off.

He wants to do a "trial run" in a cheap, smaller bike before he bothers getting any kind of license for it, and I was wondering if there were any real motorcycles (not mopeds or scooters) that don't require anything more than a class d.

  • Is it legal to wear a pet python as a fashion item?

I have a rather eccentric friend who owns a 13 foot Burmese python, and she'll bring the animal to fancy parties and wear it almost like a scarf

The snake is quite sociable and seems to enjoy the whole thing, but that's not exactly what I'm worried about, seeing as it's 13 feet long and quite thick, what happens if it suddenly decides it's hungry. I have no idea how she can stand having it on her shoulders all the time, too, imagine the ache.

  • Muscles twitching like crazy?

So I just realized that I was vibrating in place

At first I thought it was my heart going nuts, so I kinda panicked

Then I checked my pulse and it was normal

Seems what was happening is my pec, along with several other muscles, was twitching

It was all synchronized, and of such an intensity that it caused my whole desk to shake

    Is this normal?

I didn't sleep last night, so that might be part of it, but I dunno

  • Best bike for a (very) long-distance road trip?

I'm an experienced biker (experienced at biking, less so at finding bikes, unfortunately), and I'm planning a pan-US road trip with some buddies in late July, we're starting in Boston and heading to the City of Angels by way of Vegas

We plan to buy bikes, ride 'em across the country, pawn them (or if we're lucky, find a buyer) in LA and fly back to Massachusetts

As such, I'm looking for a bike that

    1. Can take the trip with reasonably low maintenance required

    2. has acceptable highway mileage (>50 would be good)

and 3. is in the $30k and under range

There is debate on whether or not we're going to bike back as well, so that's something to consider.

    Any suggestions?

  • Would a myopic person be able to use the Oculus Rift without glasses?

I don't know too much about optical physics or how the eye works.

I'm slightly myopic (od -2.25, os -2.50) and I was wondering, since the screen is so close to my eyes, would I still have problems seeing properly in virtual 3d?

For those who don't know what it is

  • What would happen in this scenario?

If I had a long, perfectly rigid pole extending from here to the Moon, and I somehow swung the base 90 degrees in half a second, what would each end observe as the pole swung?

  • Is it possible to route hdmi video/audio through a gpu?

So I'm looking to get a Wii U (and yes, I know that nobody is developing for it, keep your whining to yourselves. I'm a nintendo fanboy through and through) and since I'm too cheap to get an HDTV, I was hoping I'd be able to do some funky stuff with it.

Initially I had thought to do something similar to what I did with my Wii (that is, use a component to vga cable to get video on my monitor and route the sound through a line-in port on my rig so I could control the volume more easily - all of which is a valid option that I could easily do) but I would end up denying myself the benefits of surround sound (which I have in the form of a Corsair Vengeance 1500 that I use for absolutely everything)

So what I was hoping to do is route the HDMI output through my gpu (which is a Radeon HD 7950 with more HDMI ports than I would know what to do with) and have my pc display it. I've been looking around the net, but haven't found too much relevant information so if anybody has any helpful advice, I'm all ears.

  • Pet rat randomly freaked out?

I've had two pet rats in my house since I got them as a xmas present for my little daughter, both are female, have been treated very well, and have been very docile and sweet since we got them, if a little nervous at first. I was playing with one of them earlier today, however, when it suddenly freaked out and scrambled back into its cage like it had a flaming chariot on its tail. When I took her out to try and calm her down, she immediately darted up my sleeve and refused to come out of my shirt, clawing up my chest rather painfully, staying there for a few minutes until she finally let me grab her and pull her out. She's never been spooked like that before, I'm just wondering if it's normal behavior or what

  • Where is the easiest place to get a driver's license in MA?

I'm a better driver than most, and I'm fully confident that I can pass, but I don't want to get auto-flunked by some stuck-up prick who hates cars.

  • Where could I find a device that fits the following requirements?

So my son has a bit of an internet addiction, and if allowed he'll stay up all night online. I tried locking him out via mac address, but he just changed it and got back on. He needs it for school, so I can't just shut him out entirely, but neither can I simply shut the internet off after a certain hour as I run a 24-7 server as part of my job. What I need is a device that I can put between the wall and the modem that will allow me to have my modem shut off while maintaining a connection for my server. Any thoughts?

  • What am I looking for and where might I find them?

This year for Anime Boston (and perhaps halloween as well) I was thinking of going as an 18th-century American colonial, after a friend of mine commented that my hair was perfect for a tricorn hat.

The problem is I can't seem to find a place that sells them (or at least ones that don't look like plastic) and I'm not sure what to do for the rest of the costume. I want it to look authentic, but I've heard it can get expensive

    What would you recommend?

  • Is watercolor poisonous?

Earlier today, while painting, I absentmindedly cleaned off my brush in a glass of drinking water instead of the bowl I was using, and then drank it.

I quickly developed a headache, but I get migraines a lot so I'm not sure if it's the paint or just another migraine...

  • Are roller coasters as scary as they look?

So, in a little under a week I'm going to Canobie Lake Park and I'll be riding a roller coaster for the first time in my life, seeing as I need to get over my inconvenient fear of roller coasters. As far as I know, the most intense ride there is Untamed, so I was planning on starting off on the log flume and working my way up...

but from what I've seen, rollercoasters are positively terrifying =.=

are they really that scary to ride, or is it one of those "mouse hit by the setting sun" things?

well i guess if it was that means i got an incredible card for only $200...

  • Nobuo Uematsu or Joe Hisaishi?

    whom doth thou prefer?

theyre both excellent composers, personally i prefer Uematsu, his music is more classical than romantic like Hisaishi's...

thats not to say I don't like Hisaishi, he has some beautiful works as well...

i just have a friend who prefers Hisaishi, but his reason is that Uematsu's works are all done for video games (Final Fantasy, to be precise) and i really dont think thats a valid reason...

unless you REALLY hated Final Fantasy...

meh. i just wanted some opinions from the general public...
