I'd tell you, but...

  • Period is a week late, definitely not pregnant...?

So I'm 21 years old and my period has always been like on time, maybe a day early or a day late - but never this late!

And I know I'm not pregnant because I've never had sex. It also can't be drug or alcohol related because I haven't had any of that either in my life.

Should I be worried? And should I see an OB/GYN?

  • Question about Islamic Feminism, Khaled Hosseini and his book A Thousand Splendid Suns?

    Hey everyone!

So for a writing class, I have to reach out to a group of peers that I think would be interested in what I’m writing about. This is critical to my final paper grade. Would you mind reading this and then commenting or answering the question below?

Due to Western thoughts and ideas, feminism has progressed far in this nation and in other westernized nations. However, in countries like Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Iran, and other Middle Eastern nations, the idea of feminism is all but foreign to them. The book I am studying, called A Thousand Splendid Suns, by Khaled Hosseini, states, "Like a compass needle that points north, a man's accusing finger always finds a woman." (7) Do you find this to be true in American culture still? What about Middle Eastern culture? Do you have anything to add to this?

  • My toilet is pluuged, no water in the basin, but there is water in the tank, what do I do?

There's toilet paper at the bottom of the basin and very little water. In the tank behind the toilet there is still water. I've tried a plunger, but it does nothing because there is so little water in the basin. What do I do?

  • Lice in hair, Now what?

    Hey everyone,

So it seems that as of this morning, I have a case of lice.

I made it 19 years without a single louse rearing its ugly head on my scalp, and of course now I get it.

Anyways, I've done all of the chemical treatments (I used the RID lice kit. Seemed to work, the comb the first time got rid of around 40 adults + juveniles, and I'm not sure but I think I got some of the eggs out too. nasty little creatures). After that, I waited for it to dry, then I felt some more movement, so I combed out about 5 more. I then jumped in the shower and used ultra hot water (pretty sure I burned my shoulders actually) and two different regular shampoos, and stood under that water for about 15 minutes. I then use a high heat blow-dryer on my hair for 20 minutes (singed the ends of my hair, but whatever.) It's been about 5 hours and I haven't felt anything and I used the nit comb, and i haven't found anything.

Now, I just need some advice. I've done about 5 loads of laundry on anything I slept on or wore recently. My hair is about two feet long at it's longest point, and it's a pride of mine. I'm planning on cutting it about 4 inches since I burned it, but if I went shoulder-length, would that decrease the chances of me getting lice again? Also, I've been making a list of places I could have gotten them--

    1) I took a nap on a sofa on my college campus. This is my best bet.

    2) I took a nap in my new apartment. But that apartment hasn't been lived in for four months. So I don't think it was there.

    3) I'm staying at my Uncle's house right now while I move in. But no one has lived in that bedroom/bed for over a month.

Any other recommendations for prevention of lice or how to treat it to ensure I got them all out? I think I'm okay since I haven't felt anything in about 5 hours. I'm just paranoid though, I think. I'll do two more hot-showers and hot-blow drying tomorrow to make sure they're all gone. But any other suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

  • How to use my Macbook Pro in England if I'm from America?

    Hi guys,

So I'm traveling abroad to England and Scotland this summer, and I want to bring my macbook pro with me. However, I was wondering if I need anything beyond the obvious--an international adaptor. My friend says I need a special convertor type thing for apple products. Please tell me this isn't the case, because I"m leaving in 2 days.

    Thanks for any help!

  • I've had 13 years of piano instruction, and I now want to move on to the harp. Is it hard?

    What the questions says.

Now, I'm not saying I'm good after 13 years of piano, but I was wondering if it would be easier to learn the Harp if I've already had piano instruction.

    Thanks!

  • I'm thinking about a major in Journalism, but not sure what language/area study to minor in...?

    Hey everyone,

so I have a few options. I want nothing more than to be a journalist but I know it's such a hard field to break into, and there's little chance for employment. So I know if I know another language, that will be really useful.

I already know some Mandarin and it's one of the easier languages for me to study. (I've tried learning Latin, Italian, Spanish--all with no success. Mandarin's the only language that I find relatively easy) And while I love the language and the script, I'm sadly just completely uninterested in China or the Chinese people (And the sad thing is, I'm half Chinese!)

On the other hand, I love the religion of Islam and I love learning about the Middle East. I love reading up on it, and I would love to eventually travel there. So I'm thinking of a minor in Middle East Studies with a certificate of proficiency in either Arabic or Persian. Hard decisions all around! I haven't tried learning either of the two languages but I just want your opinion on which language/area study would be more beneficial to a career in news producing or journalism.

    Thanks,

    Fal

  • Are there prostitutes in Dante's Inferno?

Yeah, I know, random question, but I need to know this for my English essay on the portrayal and treatment of women in Christian literature. I looked through my book but could not find a single reference that there are. It seems that all the "seducers" are men (Jason and Medea)

    Thanks for your input,

  • A list of American socialite families, like the Vanderbilts, Rockefellers, Carnegies, etc?

My mother and I are having a hard time coming up with traditional and modern day American socialite families. The only ones we could really think of were the ones listed above (apart from the obvious modern day ones like the Marriotts, Hiltons, etc)

    Thanks for any help!!

  • What are Marine recruiters looking for?

    I'm just curious, now.

Because a Marine approached me today and asked, "So when are you joining the Marines?"

I said, "Not anytime soon!" with a laugh, you know.

    He says, "Why not?"

And I answer, "Well, I'm five foot three, weigh about 95 pounds, my mile is 15 minutes, and I'm so weak I can't open a water bottle. I'm an excellent shot though." (the thing about the water bottle is true. I need to ask my friends to open them for me.)

Like...really? I have LOADS of respect for the Marines and the armed forces in general. I love them and I have always DREAMED about joining the military. (Unfortunately, it's not something that is realistic for me and my weak body. haha)

So after the recruiter asked me, I became curious--are the Marines and Army in general just looking for anyone who would join up?

  • What are my chances of getting into BYU?

I just received my ACT score... It's a 27, which isn't too bad, I suppose, considering I didn't study or prepare or take any classes or anything. I basically just went in, took it, and hoped for the best. My GPA is 3.889, and I'm on Student council. I participate in a bunch of different academic clubs. Based on his scant information, would you say I have a decent Cgance of getting into BYU? I am planning on taking the ACT again and actually studying.

  • I have a new green-cheek conure who's screaming lately....how do I stop it?

    Thanks in advance!

Okay, so we recently adopted a green-cheek conure who has been the sweetest little bird when he's out of his cage. But when he's in the cage, it's so hectic! Nonstop screaming! The breeder whom we acquired him from said that he's quieter than cockatiels, and we had cockatiels so we thought that we would be able to handle it, but this conure is nonstop! We can't figure out how to make him be quiet--we tried positive reinforcement, but the problem is is that we can't be by his cage 24/7.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  • My genealogy--what does this mean?

    Hey,

    Thanks in advance!

Alright, so in my family history binder it says that I'm related to George Washington. 3rd cousins 10 times removed. It says that our common ancestor is Sir Richard Ball. I looked through my pedigree charts and found Sir Richard Ball, but I'm just curious what the whole "3rd cousins 10 times removed" means...? Same thing with William the Conquerer: 1st cousins 31 times removed.

    Thanks a million in advance,

And I'd appreciate it if people didn't outright call me a liar. There are some people in the world who don't believe in lying, thank you very much.

  • How are dogs viewed in the Indian culture? In India, are they common pets or pests?

I'm writing an essay on Diamond Dust by Anita Desai, and we need to analyze the significance of Diamond, the dog, in the book. Anyways, it takes place in India. So--if someone could give me references, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance!

  • A good movie for my family to watch this week...? Need suggestions.?

    Hey,

We need some suggestions for some movies my family and I can watch this week, seeing as our weekly 24-Mondays have been terminated until January.

Anyways, this is what we all like:

    1) Action/Adventure: Anything with espionage, spies, FBI, CIA, lots of action and gunfights...for example, we LOVED Vantage Point.

    2) Comedy: Tasteful, appropriate comedy movies like Cheaper by the Dozen, College Road Trip, etc.

    What we don't like:

    1) Excessive cursing.

    2) Anything sexual...makes for an awkward atmosphere.

Thanks for suggestions--I appreciate, and happy Thanksgiving to American users!!

  • Do presidents lie a lot? Like, US presidents?

    Hey,

So for the past day or so my ambition has to become President of the United States. Tomorrow my ambition will to become dictator of the world. (Hey, I can dream, can't I?)

Anyhoo, so I asked my parents if I would make a good president, and both of them said very promptly and very confidently, "No."

"What?!" I say, "Thanks for supporting me!"

"It's because you can't lie to save your life."

And, well, I have to give them credit because I'm incapable of lying...like, if I tell a lie, my conscience kills me until I tell the truth. For example...I was late to class one day so I lied to my principal about why it was. 2 hours later: "Mr. Kellner, I'm so sorry, I lied to you, but it's because...blah blah blah."

Stupid guilty conscience...stupid morals, stupid ethics! (jesting...*winkwink*)

Anyways, so, do presidents lie a lot? THis is an idiot question, I know. But I want opinions, please.

    Cheers,

    Falconer
