I'm 25 years old, and I have graduated from the Univ. of Tennessee with my bachelors in nursing (BSN). I am a RN in a cardiovascular ICU. I'm interested in becoming a nurse anesthetist, nurse informatist, or even going back to school to become a pharmacist. I was going to go to med school, but I decided I do not want to go to school that long (I've already done all pre med stuff...just need to take the MCAT). My main passion is tennis. I could play 10 hours a day if I had the time and energy. Some of my other hobbies include playing video games and watching movies. I hope you all enjoy my answers. I do my best at answering them. Feel free to send me an IM or email if you need help or have something good to say. I don't tolerate immature people, so please don't waste my time.
Basic calculus - derivative question?
Been a long time since I've done derivatives, so I wanted to make sure I remember correctly.
d/dx of (pi^4+x^5) = ?
You use the Product Rule right? So something like... (du/dv) x (v) + (U) x (dv/du) ?
where u = (pi^4 + x^5) and v = 1 ? The derivative of 1 = 1 right? or wrong?
Answer would be greatly appreciated.
Also, taking derivatives of square roots for example ....can someone explain the rule behind that? It looks like you divide the whole number in front of the square root by 2 and move the square root to the denominator? For example the square root of x = (1/ 2 x square root of x) ........do you divide by three with cubed roots?
Thanks in advance for responses
2 AnswersMathematics9 years agoHelp opening up NAT for xbox live because IP address keeps changing.?
I know how to access my router (Linksys WR54G2), and I know what my IP address is. However, the IP address on my xbox keeps changing after I put that IP address in the Port Forwarding section when I access my router. It just changes the last set of number (the last three numbers) of my router. I've got the ports 88-88 and 3040-3040 open; are there any others? Do I need to enable DMZ? I don't know much about this stuff. Any help would be great without messing up any access to my router from my computer and other devices.
Thanks in advance.
1 AnswerComputer Networking1 decade agoIroning help: How to prevent wrinkles on other parts while moving the item around on the ironing board?
I feel like anytime I try to iron a shirt or pair of pants that it's impossible to get them flawless. I find polos to be pretty easy though because I've learned to just to put the shirt through the end of the board to prevent from messing up the other side while ironing the front or back..
However, there are certain pieces of clothing I feel like I cannot do this with such as dress shirts and pants.
I feel like once I get one part perfect..... that anytime I move to another part of the shirt...it just messes it up what I just did a little bit. For example, if I need to iron the sleeves of the shirt and just put the sleeves on the board....it messes up the body of the shirt. This occurs a lot too when i may need to iron only the right part of the dress shirt and move to the left part because now part of the shirt that I just did is hanging off the board and it just gets a little wrinkled again. There are also some parts of the shirt that it just seems inevitable that if I iron the front that it's going to cause the back to wrinkle and vice versa.
Is this something I just have to accept is going to happen or what?
How do I prevent this?
Thanks in advance.
2 AnswersCleaning & Laundry1 decade agoHow do doctors write serum electrolyte results of a patient (position on diagram in their notes)?
There is a diagram that doctors use to write down the serum electrolyte of patients. It simply is one line drawn horizontally with a few lines drawn perpendicular creating a "grid like appearance" with values of electrolytes. I cannot remember all of the positions, but I remember most. Please help.
For example, the first one on top is Na+, first one on bottom is K+, next one on top is Cl- I think, under that is bicarb maybe?.Then there are a few more (like creatinine and BUN maybe...posssibly glucose). The diagram eventually branches out.
It seems like there is another diagram with 4 sections (a big plus sign essentially) that have WBC/RBC.
Any insight on this would be great. I couldn't find any pics online either, so let me know if you can link me to any.
4 AnswersMedicine1 decade agoComputer messes up EVERY time I'm watching a video...?
Whether it's watching a video on youtube or trying to stream a sporting event, my computer eventually messes up within a few minutes. Sometimes the screen just goes black while the power is still on. Most of the time though, the screen will just get "fuzzy" or "checkered"is the best way to describe it with any annoying monotone sound coming from the speakers ...kind of a crackling sound that is continuous until I have to power it down by holding in the poewr button.
Any ideas what could be the problem or what I should do?
If it helps, I have a HP DV4-2045dx. I just bought it in October.
2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoWhy are these drugs for IBS gender specific?
I'm studying for my pharm. quiz/lecture tomorrow, and I have come across two drugs that are targeted toward women for IBS. These drugs are Amitiza (lubiprostone) and Alosetron (Lotronex). It says the Amitiza is for women with constipation predominant IBS and Alosetron is for women with diarrhea predominant IBS.
My question is...why are these targeted for women only?
Details are great.
Thanks in advance.
1 AnswerMedicine1 decade agoIf you fell from a 100 ft, what would your velocity when you made contact with ground/water?
As title says, what would your velocity be if one fell from 100 feet (using a zipline if that makes a difference). Please show ANY equations that can applied to this situation (I haven't done physics in a while, but I assume this is classic mechanics).
5 AnswersPhysics1 decade agoWhat is it like working on a trauma unit (Surgical critical care)?
I'm trying to get a nursing externship to work on a trauma unit (SCC) this summer, and I was wondering what it's like to be in that kind of environment? What kind of qualities or traits should I have as a person/professional to excel in working in that area?
Thanks in advance.
PS: I actually am doing clinicals on a trauma floor right now, but I'm pretty sure it's a completely different floor than the SCC though. I mainly have dealt with patients involved in MVAs/patients that have been in the hospital for a long time (even some over a month).

2 AnswersPhysics1 decade agoHygiene topics to teach 6th graders?
I'm a nursing student having to teach some 6th graders topics about hygiene. Can anybody give me some suggestions. Here is what I have so far:
-hand washing
- skin care (eg. to prevent acne)
-using deodorants
-oral hygiene
-hair care/bathing/showering
- possible genital care for females (I'd have my female partner talk about this one)
We're not sure whether or not the school will let us talk about sexual stuff or STDs (and prevention) but I will find that out tomorrow.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
2 AnswersOther - General Health Care1 decade agoWould pulmonary edema cause an increase in surfactant?
As title suggests, would pulmonary edema cause an increase in surfactant?
If pulmonary edema is the accumulation of fluid in the alveoli, and surfactant's function is to act like a 'detergent' by reducing the surface tension of alveoli by keeping water molecules from cohering to one another.....wouldn't surfactant production increase due to the accumulation of the excess fluid?
My reasoning says yes, but I could be wrong.
1 AnswerRespiratory Diseases1 decade agoHow to help my professor understand what she's doing isn't fair?
Okay, my class had a test recently. Everybody did amazingly well on the test. I did great myself. Apparently there were three questions on the exam that everyone seemed to miss. My professor decided to give a point (or two points since it's a 50 question test on a scale of 100) to ONLY the people who missed that question. I have a problem with this because I didn't miss any of these three questions, so I'm not getting any points. MATHEMATICALLY, it is extremely unfair for the people who got any of these three questions correct to begin with. If you don't understand that, then...take this hypothetical situation. Let's say I got a 47 out of 50 and didn't miss any of those three questions....but someone else made a 47/50 and missed all three of those questions...but that person gets three points back to make his or her grade a 50/50.........while mine stays the same even though I got it right to begin with......Am I the only one that sees this?
I personally thought the questions were completely understandable and there was only one answer for each...that's why I had no trouble answering them....yet a lot of people missed it in class and she said a computer program that does "mixed item analysis" pointed out these three questions.
What should I do? I've already talked to her once, but she basically told me what I just told you. At first she told me it's like I'm giving everyone that answer correct to begin with.....but still IN THE END.....it's not helping my grade while it's helping out other people's....mathematically...it doesn't make sense unless she made the test out of 47 points instead of 50.
6 AnswersTeaching1 decade agoRelationship between paCO2 and C02 content from serum chemistry panel?
My professor went over these last week, and I was just checking to get more info about them. Specifically though, I want to know how they are related. I'll tell you what I do know already.
For the paC02 from arterial blood gases, I know the normal value 35-45 mmHg. I understand if it's above that value it's considered acidotic and below alkalotic. The value comes from the dissolved C02 in the plasma only.
For C02 content of serum chemistry panel, the normal range is 23.2-27.2 mEq/L. It comes from the dissolve CO2 in plasma and the bicarbonate in the plasma.
***Make sure I'm correct on this: If the C02 content (from chem panel) goes up, then the amount of bicarbonate has increased and if decreased C02 content..then bicarbonate decrease. Is that correct and necessarily true all the time?
And for the relationship of paC02 and bicarbonate....it just depends on what is happening: eg) The amount of bicarbonate could be alkalotic to deal with an acidotic amount of paC02 to correct the pH (correction of resp acidosis or corrected metabolic alkalosis). So, basically......it just depends if the problem is in the kidneys or the lungs? And if both (bicarb and paC02) are acidotic or alkalotic, then that means that both are failing correct and not necessarily influencing each other?
Sorry that was so long and wordy. Let me know if my understanding is correct. Fix anything I might have said wrong and add anything you would like to or you think I should know/understand. Thanks in advance.
3 AnswersMedicine1 decade agoHow do diuretics help with high blood pressure?
I understand the kidney filters blood, and I understand diuretics increase the amount of water lost in urine/increase the frequency of urination. How does this exactly affect the blood pressure though? I assume it has something to do with the exchange of ions in the nephron. I understand that blood pressure is the amount of pressure being exerted on the arterial walls and BP= cardiac output x total peripheral resistance. I cannot understand how the nephrons can influence that though if that's how it works at all.
Also, do diuretics necessarily increase this filtration process as a whole or does it just affect the adsorption/secretion of ions/molecules involved?
Hope someone can put this together for me to better understand it. Thanks in advance.
6 AnswersMedicine1 decade agoHow does an increase in intracranial pressure decrease respiratory rate?
I just read this (and my book doesn't explain of course), and I cannot put the two together. I understand that intracranial pressure is a result of CSF, brain tissue, and blood , but I cannot relate this to the respiratory system. Use any chemistry/physiology/ or whatever explanation you can to help me better understand this. Detailed answers are extremely welcome.
3 AnswersMedicine1 decade agoNeed to get rid of smell from painted cabinets?
I just moved into my apartment about a month ago. It's had this weird aroma in it since I moved into it. It's either diminished or I've gotten used to it. There are many times though that I leave for several hours, and I smell it as as soon as I return and step in to the door (I adjust to it almost immediately though). The smell is definitely coming from all of the wooden stuff like the cabinets in the kitchen, bathroom, and even then the two little wooden shelves in my walk-in closet that were painted (they look like they were spray painted if that matters). The carpet is fine. It doesn't smell at all I might add.
The best way to describe the smell is it smells like a hotel room or like it has been smoked in (it's not smoke though. My friend said it's kind of a stale smell.
I haven't really aired it out (opened up windows and etc), but I will do that as soon as I can. Does anybody else have any other suggestions? I've got boxes of baking soda in the cabinets and I've febrezed them (which just masks the smell). I just want to eliminate the odor.
2 AnswersCleaning & Laundry1 decade agoCurious about memory and how it works?
I'm just interested in how memory works. It seems like I asked my anatomy/physiology professor, and he said he didn't really know. He did mention a possibility of some sort of signal/communication between two cells in our brain.
If you can elaborate on short term/long term memory, then that would be great. Basically...why are some things in short term versus long term? I know repetition helps with long term memory, but there are certain things that may occur once that stay in our long term. Anything you have to say about it....please do.
I'm curious because just thinking back on my whole school career, I feel like I haven't learned as much permanent (long term) information as I would have liked to. Don't get me wrong, during the semester and school year....I probably remember more than 98% of the people in class because I'm extremely meticulous and I love every little detail....but it just seems like after the semester or class is done with...it's just kind of gone out of my memory. I hate it because I would love to memorize everything. I understand that if I used the information regularly that it would be easier to recall, but we know that's not always the case. Furthermore, I know that it would be easier to "re-learn" if I wanted to. It's just I would love to just have that information readily available without looking it up to refresh.
I don't care whether you post links up, copy or paste, or type from your own memory (ha).
4 AnswersBiology1 decade agoSlept with my contact lens in and I cannot find it now?
First off, I'm not 100% sure whether I did sleep with it in or not. I went out drinking last night and came back and just kind of passed out. It may have got taken out or rubbed out at some point in the night, but I'm not sure.
I woke up this morning, and I don't see it at all in my eye. I've been rubbing around trying to find it. Is there a possibility that it could be in the back of my orbital and I not know about it? I'm sure I would feel it wouldn't I?
As of right now, I don't feel any discomfort or anything, and I cannot visibly see anything. Only a little irritation from where I've been rubbing around in my eye trying to find it.
Let me know the worst case scenario.
5 AnswersOptical1 decade agoFor girls....should a guy tell you to change your hair?
Warning. This is a little superficial (I don't think it's too bad....it could be worse), but it does give you some insight on how us guys think.
I'll give some background. There's this girl who likes me, but I'm simply not attracted to her ONLY because she wears the most hideous hairstyle. Her hair is naturally curly and then she curls it even further. They look like a bunch of DNA helixes. The thing is I've seen pictures of her hair straight and another way...and she's really pretty. It's just when she curls it...it's just unattractive. (funny thing...There's another girl too that I was talking to who looks really good...then she permed her hair like it was the 80s...it's just not cool)
Would it be okay to tell her how I feel? I don't think I should because I don't want to "change" how someone is. Then again, I would be doing her a great favor in my view. Wouldn't you want someone to tell you to do something differently that WOULD work as opposed to not working?
If it would be okay to tell her, then how would I go about doing it?
25 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoWhat "style" would you classify her?
This is a link to a tv commerical for a phone (Lg xenon). I was just curious on how would one classify the girl's fashion style in the commerical. I've always loved seeing girls dressed like this, but I could never describe it.
It's not 'preppy' in my opinion, and please don't respond with store/brand names in which the clothes could be purchased. I'm looking for a category if there is even one.
