  • Why do some governmental funds use accrual accounting and others use modified accrual?

    Accrual = Internal Service Fund

    = Enterprise Fund

    = Pension/trust Fund

    Modified Accrual = General Fund

    = Capital Projects

    = Special Revenue

    = Debt Service

Here's the question I got on a practice exam:

Sig City used the following funds for financial reporting purposes:

    General fund

    Internal service fund

    Airport enterprise fund

    Pension trust fund

    Capital projects fund

    Special revenue fund

    Debt service fund

How many of Sig's funds use the accrual basis of accounting?

  • What is wrong with my ADHD son?

No medications work. I ask him to do his homework and the minute I turn my back he's up and moving around.

He is missing a ton of assignments. I ask him about them and he has no clue what they are or what they are about yet he wrote it down in his planner. He's so clueless and scattered. I had him start going to the study program after school. I pick him up today and he said his homework was done. His special ed teacher emailed me about an assigment for math he has due tomorrow. I ask him about it and it was sitting in his folder untouched. Now I'm making him do it so that's not late.

I don't know what to do.

  • I set up a 529 savings account for my niece but learned she has a learning disability. What happens now?

I am the account owner and my niece is the beneficiary. My plan was to put some money into this 529 every birthday and Christmas. It appears she has a brain disorder that will keep her child like. I don't think she's ever going to college. Now I know that there would normally be no 10% penalty for withdrawing since she has a disability but she's my niece not my daughter. Would I have to pay the 10%? Should I bother to continue to contribute to it?

  • Having a hard time finding a good bed.?

My spouse and I need to find a new bed. We currently have an air mattress with a plush pillow top. I like that it's basically a sleep number bed as I prefer firmer settings while he likes to be more comfortable. He likes to sleep on his back and is about 240lbs at 6"2. I've noticed what I believe is the beginning of sleep apnea. Me on the other hand; I like to sleep on my side. I'm 5"8 and 160lbs. I like the idea of a tempurpedic but saw an ad for Icomfort with a gel middle. My concern is finding a bed that doesn't trap heat and will accomdate me and the hubby. What would be a good bed match for us?

  • What should a 16 year old know before joining the marines?

My friend's daughter (who is like a niece to me) was approached by recruiters. Of course everything sounds so wonderful and safe but I had a similar situation happen to me at 17. There was a ton of stuff I didn't know. I only got out because of a medical discharge that held up my basic training. Time constraints got me sent home and discharged. I'm so happy that happened.

I believe this kid is doing it because her family is poor and the military offers her somewhat of a way out with the promise of experience and college. I remember feeling like I was in a forest and couldn't see anything ahead. Then I felt like the military lifted me out on a helicopter (which was a brief happy moment) and dropped me into the desert with no water. So I want her to get the most out of this experience in a positive manner. What should she know? I'm worried if she gets injured mentally or physically that she'll end up a homeless vet.

  • Easement liability with the neighbors?

Once upon a time (1920's) a builder built two houses on some land he owned. He connected the houses sewers/sanitary lines and then connected the line to the city. Now there are tree roots growing through which causes flooding in my basement. The other house sits about 6 inches higher than mine so their basement has never flooded. They have never helped me with the cost to clear out the line or the clean up of my basement.

Now I'm ready to put all new plumbing in my basement (breaking up the floor) and connect to the city on my own pipe. My plumber will put a stopper in the existing line and collasp my portion. The neighbor will still be able to use the line but obviously if they don't maintain it they will get flooded. How do I properly let them know that I am no longer responsible for this?

We connect about 40 feet out. The line from my house connects to them under their driveway. The new line will be placed 100% in my yard. The tree roots grow after our connection at about the 120 foot mark. The city line is 160ft from my house.

  • I filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy back in 2005 when it would stay on my credit for 7 years but now my report says?

But now my report says it will stay on for 10. Can I dispute this? Aren't old accounts grandfathered in? If there are grandfathered under the 7 year rule; where do I find proof to this? Thanks!

  • My niece's mom needs to get productive?

Here's the skinny. My niece is two months old. Her mother is a young mom 19 and her father (my half) brother 21 is in jail. My brother will probably be in jail for the next two years because of his inappropriate actions towards his ex. He broke into her house 3 times and stole her ADHD meds and a laptop. He has a drug addiction.

Anyways, I'm trying to be a good aunt. I really feel for my niece. I know what her life is going to be like since I was in her shoes. I didn't meet my dad til I turned 21 because he had his rights taken away for beating my mom while she was pregnant with me. He was also a drug addict and took about 10 years to get sober.

In the past two months I have given $500 cash. Lots of diapers and wipes. Have been seeing my niece at least once a week (I live 40 miles away) and have taken her for the night. I'm feeling frustrated because her mom called me yesterday and said she ran out of diapers. Mind you I just gave her $200 4 days ago! I know some of that money when to fix her moms van but really...no diapers??? My niece's maternal grandmother is a workhorse. I feel for this woman. She works a crappy job and has to support my niece and her 5 children.

I've asked my niece's mom to apply for cash aid and get her butt back in school. She doesn't have a GED/Diploma yet. I told her I would pay any test taking costs. She still hasn't done anything. Oh but she does have a new BF who thinks he's better than my brother because he has a job working fast food. Hate to break it to him but he's still a college drop out (like my brother), still has shaggy hair (like my brother), no car....lives at home with his parents...the only difference between him and my brother is the jail and addiction. I'm sure he smokes put but he's not into anything else. Any suggestions on how to get her off her behind? I feel upset that she's more concerned about her BF coming over than getting an education. I'm hate feeling this worried about my niece. It really turns my stomach. To remedy the diaper situation I left work in the middle of the day and drove all the way over there just to drop off a couple packages of diapers. Because if she was out then one package obviously won't last long.

  • Accounting question about selling price when incremental costs are incurred?

The following costs are being considered as a firm contemplates acceptance of a special order: total incremental fixed cost of $28,000; total variable cost of $47,000; total sunk cost of $31,000.

Which price is closest to the minimum selling price for the special order that will make a positive contribution to profit?

    A. $106,001

    B. $28,001

    C. $47,001

    D. $75,001

I understand that incremental revenue should be more than incremental cost. Which leads me to think that $28,001 should be the min. selling price. What I'm unsure of is the variable cost. Should that be added in and thus my selling price should be $106,001?

  • Teething 15 month old with fever then rash?

My daughter had a mild fever a few days ago. It stuck around for about 2 days and then went away. Then we noticed these little red bumps along her hairline, neck and stomach. Today the red bumps/rash is from the waist up (except on her cheeks/nose around her eyes and around her mouth). I accidentally washed her clothes with a dryer sheet so I thought maybe that was the problem but there's no rash on her legs. I'm taking her to the doctors to get checked out but thought I would ask if anyone else had the same problem.

  • reading problem for Algebra?

One number is four more than a second number. Two times the first number is 12 more than four times the second number. The answer is 2 and -2.

I can't get there. I've got my problem laid out like 2(x+4)=12+4x with the answer being x= -4. So number one is 0 and the second number is -4.

  • Alegebra question regarding truck vs. airplane?

A Trucker traveled 150 miles in the same time it took an airplane to travel 600 miles. If the speed of the airplane was 150 miles per hour faster than the speed of the truck, find the speed of the plane. The answer is 200mph.

I've got the problem set up like trucker speed = x....airplane speed = 150 + x. But if the problem doesn't tell us how long it took for either one to get those miles or the truckers mph how do we solve? Can't just use the formula r=d/t

  • odor in basement after sewer flood?

We had a flood (tree roots growing through the line). We used bleach to clean it up and have been running a dehumidifer. It still smells and I"m noticing it starting to smell up stairs. What can I do? I believe this is coming from the celler since it wasn't treated right away and the smell is very strong in there.

  • If I get a BA in accounting from WGU will it be reconized in Michigan?

I have my associates from Macomb Community College but I'm at that point (81 credit hours) where I have to transfer to a 4 year college. I want to eventually become a CPA. If I finish out my BA with WGU (Western Governors University); will the Michigan board of accountancy accept it? Just a little nervous about doing school online. Thanks in advance!

  • Should a step parent spank?

I went upstairs to rest while my 9 month old took her nap. I donated blood this morning and just felt tired. I have 2 boys from a previous marriage ages 11 and 7. They started fighting. My oldest told his brother to get out of his room. My 7 year old refused to leave and took a swing at him. I heard a bunch of commotion. I got up to go down stairs and I heard 2 smacks. Then my husband's voice was clear that they were grounded for the rest of the day. Next came my daughters cry from waking up from her nap.

My boys are ok. I made them talk to me about the advents. I find that making them talk is worse punishment then anything else. Their dad and I have spanked them before and never questioned the other on why we did it. We trust each other on that front and are united in that respect.

My husband and I talked later. I told him I wasn't comfortable with him spanking the boys. I told him that I would feel better if we had my ex's permission on this subject. He defended his actions and stands firm that if the boys are in our house then he should have the right to use his discretion. We've been married for 2.50 years now and this is the first time that he has ever spanked them. Given that this is the first time he has spanked them I'm prone to being on his side that he should be allowed to spank. Any thoughts?

  • Flat screen tv loses color when viewing a regular channel after a HD?

We just got a Sharp 1080 flat screen and I've noticed that it basically goes black and white after viewing a HD channel. If I change the channel to another HD channel then the color is back and just fine. To get the normal channels to have all their color we have to unplug a cable and replug it. My husband says it's not doing a good job of switching from 1080(HD channel) to 460 (regular channel). But why?

  • Is it legal for Chase credit card company to just lower a limit and only give 45 days to get the balance down?

My limit was $5500. Chase lowered it to $1800 on 3-31-2010. I received a letter on 4-7-2010 that they were lowering this and “Also, please note that if you have made recent purchases or written access checks that result in your balance being greater than this new credit line, you have 45 days from the date of this letter to make payments to bring your balance below your credit line.” The letter goes on to threatened higher APR and overlimit fees if I can’t get the balance below the new credit limit. Is this legal?

  • How do you get the mortgage company only hold your ex responsible?

January 2007 - divorce final. Divorce decree states that my ex has to assume all indebtness to the mortgage debt and that he had 90 days to do it. I call LaSalle and tell them about my decree. They tell me to send them my decree and they can remove my name from the loan - great!

The mortgage gets sold to Citibank. I call Citibank and ask if they have removed my name from the loan. Nope; that little detail is completely gone. They say my ex can assume the mortgage and they faxed me the paperwork. I pass it on to him.

90 days expires and I take him to court for contempt - he is given another 6 months.

6 months expires and I take him to court for contempt again - he is given 10 months

July 2009 he informs me he is late on the payments. I pull my credit. It says foreclosed. I take him back to court for a 3rd contempt. He is sent to jail for 4 days.

Both of us get a 1099-A from CitiMortgage. They have not issued a 1099-C which suggests they want us to pay the 60K loan deficiency. I call my ex and tell him to expect Citibank to take us to court and try to collect the debt. He tells me he doesn't have the money and doesn't care if I have to pay the debt.
