  • In your opinion, what is the difference between an excuse and a reason?

This seems to come up a lot, where someone will ask you for your reason on something, and then once you give it to them they say no excuses.

What do you think the difference is?

  • My Fn key settings have been switched?

my Niece was messing in the settings and somehow my Fn key functions have been switched. Currently, it's set so that if I want to use a F key (ex: F9) I just have to press the button, when before I had to press Fn and then the key that has F9 on it. Also, now that the settings are switched, keys like the sound and brightness don't work unless I press Fn first, when before they used to work automatically. Does anyone know how to change it back? I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 and I use Windows 7

  • My volume and brightness keys aren't working due to change Fn settings?

Today, I was watching a youtube video with my niece on my laptop when she started pressing a bunch of keys (she's only 2) and brought up the settings on my computer. I saw a setting in the computer somewhere that had something to do with the Fn button on my keyboard, and I thought that she had changed it by accident so I switched it to the other one. Turns out, it didn't change, and now when I press the volume or brightness keys (which share a key with f keys- which are normally triggered by pressing the fn key) nothing happens. I have a Inspiron 1545 and I use windows 7, does anyone have any idea where in the settings I could change it back? I can't find it.

  • How to handle wanting to spend time with a relative, but not that their family?

I have a niece who's almost 2 right now. She's my brother's son, and unfortunately my brother has chosen not to take part in his daughter's life. The rest of our family however, does see her pretty much every weekend.

My niece's mother is 19. She has two children, my niece, who is almost 2, and her other daughter, who is almost 1. We are not related to my niece's mom or my niece's half-sister by blood or marriage, and the relationship between my family and my niece's family is strained, at best. We are cordial but not openly friendly towards each other. Every weekend, we bring my niece back to our house, and then at the end of the weekend she goes back home to her mom.

My problem is that when my niece is over, we buy her clothes, toys, goodies, and take her places. We're not exactly spoiling her (she doesn't exactly have a good life at home because her mother is a single mom trying to raise two kids. It's hard for all of them) but she obviously gets more attentions at our house than at her own. My niece's mom complained that we were spoiling my niece and it was unfair to her other daughter. I think this is ridiculous right now, because their both just babies, however I can see how this would be a problem in the future.

Imagine being 5 yrs old and watching your 6yr old sister going out with her grandma and getting toys, new clothes, and etc, and you get nothing.

Should I feel partially responsible for the other child? How should we handle spending time with my niece and buying her things, without upsetting her mother or sister?

(obviously this isn't a big problem right now, but I'm talking about the future).

  • Should I go to commencement (graduation) to please my parents?

I'm a senior in high school, and I'm going to be graduating from high school and from a community college with an Associates Degree (Hard to explain how- It's like a double credit program). My commencement (where you walk across the stage and get the degree) is this Saturday, and my parents really want me to go. However, I don't want to go because I hate large crowds, long speeches and etc. I don't want to be selfish because I know this is important to them, but at the same time I feel like I should be able to decide if I want to go or not. I feel that because I was the one who did all the work to graduate, I shouldn't feel guilty for not going. Should I go to commencement to make them happy, or should I skip it like I originally planned?

Also, before someone throws out "they paid for you to go", it was free. It was through a privately-funded program for high school students in my area.

  • How do you cite a quote from a textbook with multiples authors in a paper MLA style?

For example, if I was quoting a sentence from the first page of a novel, and the author's name was Smith, I think it would look like this "The sentence I chose to quote" (Smith 1). (This may not be correct.. I can't remember exactly how to do it) However, if I need to quote a sentence from the textbook, how would I do that? Do you use the name of the textbook or the name of the authors or just one author? Do you include the page number? Any help would be great!

  • What's a fairy tale with multiple versions?

An example of this would be how there's multiple cultural versions of Cinderella. (Native American, Egyptian, Greek, etc).

  • Can anyone think of a fairytale that has many different versions or is based in different cultures?

For example, Cinderella has many different versions. (Chinese, Native American, Egyptian, etc).

If you can think of a fairy tale that has at least 3 different versions that are similar, that'd be great.

If you post links to where I can find it at that'd be even better

    Thanks for your help!

  • How do you stop Yahoo from posting the questions you've answered as your status?

Whenever I answer a question it changes my status to the link of the question I answered. Is there a way to stop it from doing that automatically?

  • How to tell parents I don't want to go to commencement?

I don't want to go to commencement, which is where the graduating class walks across the stage and receives their diploma. There's going to be 4,000 people graduating from the college I attend this year, and I don't feel like going to a four hour ceremony for me to be up on stage for fifteen seconds. Also, I have a problem with overcrowded areas and large crowds, so it would be a nightmare for me. My parents are really upset that I don't want to go to commencement, and they've been trying to guilt me into it. I will be their first kid graduating from college, so I understand their excitement, but I'm really not comfortable. Should I try to suck it up and go anyway, I should I just tell them I'm not comfortable with it?

  • Communication problems with parents?

All right well, I'm going to college next year for the first time. (kind of)

I've been in PSEO since I started high school, which is where you take college classes and high school classes at the same time. So while I've technically been in college, this will be my first time going to a University and being away from home.

My freshmen orientation is coming up, and I had originally planned to go with my mom and my friend and her mom. However, now my dad wants to come too. This is a slight problem because the car fits four, and taking two cars (One with four people, one with one person) would be wasteful because the school is so far away. Also, I don't want to attend the orientation with both my parents. I know this is exciting for them because I am their first kid going to college, but at the same time I really want a friend there to support me through this and experience this with me (She is going to be my roommate next year as well). Should I tell my dad my plans or should I just go with my parents? My friend and I hadn't made anything official yet so it's not like we promised to give her a ride and then we just change our minds.

  • Do you think that teachers get paid enough? Why?

I'm asking for opinions. The average starting salary according to this website: http://teacherportal.com/teacher-salaries-by-state is about $30,000. It may actually be lower, I'm not entirely sure.

Keep in mind that teachers are educating the future leaders of America, and that they have to deal with kids who misbehave on a regular basis but their parents do nothing about it.

On the other hand, they do get all the major holidays off, and their technical work day is the amount of one school day. (However they do take papers and assignments home)

Do you think they should be paid more or less for what they do?

  • My sims can't cook on the stove in the sims 3?

I have sims 3 for the pc. Last night, when I went to end the game it said like error: not saved or something like that. While I was saving it one of the sims was cooking on the stove. I saved it again and everything seems to work fine except the stove. Even if no one is using it, it says in use by (my sims name). If I try to delete it or move it, it also says the same thing. If I try to move when I move back in it still the same. Does anyone know a cheat or a way to reset the stove so I can delete it or something?

  • Built-in Mic won't work with Skype?

All right well.. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. It has a built-in microphone. Last night, I was on skype on the family laptop (which is the same type of laptop) and the mic worked fine. Then I switched to my personal laptop, and got on skype. On my laptop, The mic wouldn't work. However, I know it has something to do with skype because if I webchat on AIM the other person can hear me. Also, if I use an external microphone (headset) then Skype works just fine. Can anyone tell me what's going on and how I can fix it so I can use my built-in mic?

Please be specific. For example, don't say "Adjust the microphone settings" tell me how to adjust them. Anybody who helps me fix it gets 10 points. (Also, I'm pretty sure the mic isn't muted on skype because I checked, but maybe there's a setting or something I missed)

    2) What is the empirical formula for fatty acids?

    3) What is another type of compound (besides polysaccharides) that fits the defintion of a polymer?
