I am back for a third time. This time, I want to bring a more positive perspective to the table rather than just making myself more anxious. I have an anxiety disorder so I could use less of that in my life.
Why is "I have black friends" an excuse for racism rather than a critique of it?
e.g. I have black friends, so when I see a black guy getting killed by a police officer who doesn't honor the promise they made to their community, that scares me.
3 AnswersOther - Cultures & Groups4 years agoWhat can Black Lives Matter do to implement its goals?
So here was a police involved shooting in Falcon Heights, Minnesota (very, very close to where I'm from) where this black guy was shot by a cop for no discernible reason.
Obviously generalizing police officers isn't the answer to this. This cop was not serving or protecting. He was overreacting and escalating the situation needlessly.
So what's the solution here and how can it be implemented within a reasonable time frame?
2 AnswersOther - Cultures & Groups5 years agoWould God expect people with ADHD to go to church?
I think that this is an interesting question because, according to Christianity, people have ADHD because they were designed that way by God. So wouldn't it be counterproductive for a person with ADHD to defy that design by forcing themselves to sit still for an hour every week?
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality5 years agoWhat does it mean to accept Jesus Christ?
Is acceptance rigid and in the form of dogma or is it the way you live your life?
18 AnswersReligion & Spirituality5 years agoHow are people not supposed to look at people they're attracted to?
I get not wanting men to be invasive but when a person is attracted to another person, they have a tendency to look at them. It's involuntary.
4 AnswersGender Studies5 years agoWhat do you think about "bro hugs"?
Obviouely, there's nothing offensive about bro hugs. But IMO I think it's sad that some guys feel like they can't seek comfort and affection from other men via actual hugs (which work a lot better than). It doesn't matter if some people perceive men hugging to be "gay" because that's a reflection of bigotry on theory part.
Bottom line, men should hug each other if they need to, even if they're not related.
But what do you think? Am I a crazy radfem or do I have a point?
11 AnswersGender Studies5 years agoWhat are antifeminists doing to benefit men who have been mistreated?
Are they organizing charity drives for widowers? Are they building shelters for male rape victims? Are they raising awareness of the fact that men are excellent parents? Or are all of these just talking points at are used against feminism?
5 AnswersGender Studies5 years agoI'm going to a catholic funeral on Monday. If anyone asks, should I hide the fact that I'm gay?
My awesome grandma died recently and there are a lot of things I don't understand about the Catholic funeral process.
From what I've heard, it's likely that during social interactions my distant family members will ask questions such as "do you have a girlfriend". What should I say if I'm asked that? I don't want to be dishonest because my grandmother didn't have a problem with my sexuality and I feel like hiding that about myself would be disrespectful towards her.
17 AnswersReligion & Spirituality5 years agoHow do I get through my grandma's funeral?
My grandma died recently (RIP). I am extremely attention deficit and impulsive and my family is Catholic, which means a long, boring funeral is going to happen. I don't want to be disrespectful but I also am known to display a lack of tact when I am agitated or bored, which I will be during the funeral. How do I get through it without going nuts or offending someone?
8 AnswersEtiquette5 years agoShould people live in swampy areas?
I think it's crazy that people choose to live in swampy parts of the Deep South that are obviously not suitable for human habitation. The alligator situation with the 2 year old is an example of why people should not be living in swampy areas of the southeast.
3 AnswersOther - Society & Culture5 years agoWhy is modern feminism so heteronormative?
Think about it. Feminists like to talk about interactions between men and women but those interactions only involve straight people. Their rhetoric seems to completely ignore gays.
3 AnswersGender Studies5 years agoHow should I style my loose-ish curly hair to make it look longer?
My hair is damaged from going 10 months without a haircut and so I'm going to have to get some of it cut off. I'd say my hair is currently around 6 inches long (when wet) and it will probably be around 4.5 inches long when I get it cut. I want to make it look as if I didn't get that much cut off.
2 AnswersHair5 years agoShould I leave a negative review of my college on their Facebook page?
My school is great in terms of academics but the housing situation is not acceptable IMO. Of course the school isn't going to show parents the bad dorm building that houses half of our students because those parents would probably not send their kids to that university. It's a small school that needs more enrollment but I'm not entirely sure that it deserves more students with the conditions they will have to live in.
My review will briefly mention how the school is great but most of it will talk about the awful student housing.
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)5 years agoIf the Bible is the basis of morality, then why does God torture and kill massive amounts of people for little to no reason?
Read exodus and explain to me how torturing the Egyptians and killing huge amounts of them is loving.
19 AnswersReligion & Spirituality5 years agoWhy do people who think that emotion has no place in politics make an exception for the Black Civil Rights Movement?
It worked because they put emotion into politics. So if you object to politics and emotions being combined, you should object to that movement.
You can't selectively apply your rules. Either they apply to everybody or nobody.
9 AnswersPolitics5 years agoWhy would God speak to us?
I'm more or less an agnostic but I'm playing devil's advocate.
If there is a God, I don't see a reason for him to reveal himself to us. If you know that there is a supreme being looking out for you, are you really going to learn anything during your existence on Earth? How do you build character when nothing you face ultimately means anything?
7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality5 years agoWhy do people from warmer regions of the US suck at driving in wintry conditions beyond them not being used to it?
When the road is icy, slow down and be careful. That's common sense.
