Calculating Acceleration + Speed of Particles (Gravity Unit)?
Deep in space, away from all bodies, a mass of 100kg is placed at (0,0) and another mass of 100kg is placed at (0,1). These two masses are fixed. A pea which is free to move is placed at (1,0) and released from rest.
a) What is its acceleration? [ANSWER GIVEN: -9.03 i hat + 2.36 j hat nm/s^2]
b) Assuming it passes through the point (0, 1/4), what is its speed at that point? [0.22 mm/s]
I am lost on this lol. I got taught this in one hour and now I have a quiz on monday? I have the answer given to me, but I'm unsure how to do the work. The closest equation in my notes is
F = G(mass 1)(mass 2)(radius from 1 to 2) / (radius from 1 to 2 )^3 so I could calculate F from pea to object 1 + F from pea to object 2 to get Fnet. Then acceleration is Fnet / mass of pea??
I wasn't able to work this out myself, and would appreciate help.
1 AnswerPhysics3 years agoThe max compression of a spring with friction?
A box of mass 10 kg starts from rest and slides down a plane angled at 45 degrees to the horizontal. The box slides 2m down the plane before it encounters a spring with constant k=500 N/m which causes it to come to rest. What will the maximum compression of the spring be... assuming the co-efficient of kinetic friction between plane and box is 0.5.
ANSWER GIVEN BY TEACHER: 0.60722 with g= 10m/s^2.
How should I go about this question for the work aspect?
2 AnswersPhysics3 years agoPhysics- Given Force find change in kinetic energy?
A force (F) acting on a body depends on the position of the body (x) as F(x) = -3(x) + 2x^2
Assuming this is the only force acting on the body, what is the change in kinetic energy of the body as it moves from x=1 to x=2?
ANSWER : 166 2/3 mJ
How do I do the work for this problem? Change in kinetic energy is = 1/2mv^2 - 1/2mvo^2 but I m only given Force? No mass or velocity so I m confused.
I have only found that
F(1) = -1N and F(2)= 2N.

Exercise 20.9
In the reaction A(g)→2B(g)+C(g),
the total pressure increases while the partial pressure of A(g) decreases. The initial pressure of A(g) in a vessel of constant volume is 6.600×10^3 mmHg .
Thru ICE diagram I found the total pressure after the reaction as gone to competion is Pt= 1.980x 10^-4 mmHg.
However what will be the total gas pressure when the partial pressure of A(g) drops to 7.60x10^-2 mmHg?
Pt= ?
How would I go about this???

1 AnswerSoftware8 years agoAncient Human Sacrifice Rituals?
I'm writing a novel and one of my character is a human sacrifice.
I haven't done much research into this sort of thing. Do these rituals make sense?
-they want to sacrifice her to 'God' so that he may bless the village and end a drought
-her parents were arranged by a match maker to purposefully create a beautiful child
-they only sacrifice children because they are pure of heart (usually only females)
-she is raised in isolation so others cannot taint her purity
-she is not allowed to cut her hair because of the same reason as above
-she wears only the most expensive fabrics and spends time praying each day
-she is very educated so that her soul with have more worth to God
Do these things make sense or are at least somewhat accurate to real life?
Any other ideas you think they would have?
3 AnswersAnthropology8 years agoChromosomes in Color Blindness?
For a Genetic Disorder project for a school I need to understand what causes Color Blindness and by that I'm talking about the DNA and chromosomes.
Could someone please explain what happens to the chromosomes when someone is born with Color Blindness and why it happens more to men than women?
3 AnswersBiology8 years agoZombie Apocalypse Scenario?
Let's just say the end of the world did happen through a zombie apocalypse.
Do you see it as an adversary to mankind? Do you think that humans are meant to conquer and reclaim the earth and repopulate it? Or do you believe that it's better for us to die out or that we're meant to? Do you think anything in this world is worth saving or worth fighting for?
5 AnswersPhilosophy9 years agoStage make up and foudation?
So tomorrow I am going to be performing on stage in front of my school for the Remembrance Day assembly and I was told that I should wear makeup. Now I have no experience in applying stage makeup but I did do a little research online.
For foundation all I have to work with are my sister's makeup, who has much lighter skin. I tried several of her foundations on and they are all one to two shades lighter than my skin tone and combined with the lighting I am going to look like a GHOST.
What should I do in a case like this when I don't have the option to go out and buy a darker foundation? Go without it? Make do with it?
3 AnswersMakeup9 years agoExponents and negative numbers?
Here is how I normally solve exponents with negative numbers:
4^-2 = 4^2 = 16 = 1/16
Is that correct?
Because now I have this question I have to deal with:
2(4)^-2
So I tried solving it the same way, getting 1/16 and multiplying both of the numbers by 2 but apparently that's wrong and the answer is actually 1/8? How would I get to the answer then?
Thanks!
5 AnswersMathematics9 years agoEvaluating exponents with negative numbers?
These questions just popped up on my homework and I'm pretty confused at to how to solve them.
(-3) to the power of -3.
and
2(-2/5) to the power of -2.
It'd be really helpful if you tell me how you got to the answers as well since there are more like them.
Also please don't include symbols like ^ because I'm learning this whole thing in french and for some reason those kind of symbols haven't shown up/haven't been taught.
Thanks!
