Evaluating exponents with negative numbers?

These questions just popped up on my homework and I'm pretty confused at to how to solve them.

(-3) to the power of -3.

and

2(-2/5) to the power of -2.

It'd be really helpful if you tell me how you got to the answers as well since there are more like them.

Also please don't include symbols like ^ because I'm learning this whole thing in french and for some reason those kind of symbols haven't shown up/haven't been taught.

Thanks!

(-3) to the power of -3, to get rid of the negative in the exponent use the reciprocal

(-1/3) to the power of 3

    (-1/27)

2(-2/5) to the power of -2, same thing here

2(-5/2) to the power of 2

    2(25/4)

    25/2
