Liquor intolerance, but not beer or wine?
I have always been a very light drinker. At most I will have one or two drinks a month. Previously, unless I overindulged, I felt fine, but recently, even as much as one shot of liquor (even with a mixer) leaves my stomach in major pain. I can still have a glass of wine or a beer with no issue, but give me a margarita, or a vodka cranberry, or even a Malibu pineapple and within an hour my stomach spasms and bloats up and I feel terrible all night and remain bloated and feeling full all the next day. I am talking about a normal serving; about one ounce of liquor with about 4-6 ounces of mixer, tops.
Is there such a thing as liquor intolerance? And why can I still stomach beer or wine?
Any info/ advice would be helpful.
Lately I've just stuck to maybe a glass of wine with dinner now and again, but it'd be nice to be able to have a martini or margarita now and then.
3 AnswersBeer, Wine & Spirits1 decade agoquitting birth control- help?
I have been on BC pills since I was 17 (I'm now 25,) for horrific periods and migraines. Even with BC pills I still have mega cramps for at least 2 days, and I'll usually have several lighter periods and then one big WHOPPER of a period, that leaves me dizzy from blood loss. About 2 years ago, I went on Ortho-Try-Cyclen LO. Since starting that, my migraines are steadily getting worse, and I'm having more of them each month, I've been diagnosed with anxiety (never been an anxious person before,) I've had major bloating, chronic constipation, I've gained about 15 pounds, that no amount of diet or exercise can budge, and my sex drive has plummeted. Not only that, I've been getting more pimples than I ever did when I was going through puberty, and more cystic pimples.
I have decided that Ortho-Try-Cyclen LO is Satan, and it's making me into a weepy, bitchy, bloated hormonal mess.
I'm wanting to quit the pill altogether, since I've been on it, continuously, for 8 years. My husband and I are *thinking* about *thinking* about starting a family, lol. It's something we've talked about, but we're not 100% sure we want to get pregnant right away, maybe within the next year or so.
I certainly don't want to make my husband of 4 years start wearing condoms, as neither of us like them, so I'm wondering what other options I have for non-hormonal BC. What would you suggest? And what are the benefits/downfalls of your suggestion? I'd really appreciate your help.
OH, just FYI, because of the hormonal BC, we have had to use lube for the past two or three years, so until I get my mojo back and can quit using lube, I need advice for what I can use that won't be affected by lube.
Thanks so much!
2 AnswersWomen's Health1 decade agowisdom tooth surgery/back to work?
I'm having my wisdom teeth taken out on November 11th. I work as a bank officer so I have to talk ALL day 5 days a week. I'm having them out on Veteran's day, which is a holiday, and then taking the next day off, and possibly the following Monday. 1 of my teeth is completely impacted in the bone, has never erupted at all, 2 of them are partially erupted and impacted in the gums, and the last one is mostly erupted but is in sideways. The ones impacted in my gums are constantly getting infected because the gum flap allows food to get stuck under there, which is hard to get at with a toothbrush.
How long do you think I'll be in pain for? Because I can't take narcotic pain relievers and then work at a bank handling peoples' finances. Will I be swollen and bruised? Is the bruising something that can be covered with makeup? Will talking be painful?
Any advice will be much appreciated! Thanks!
1 AnswerDental1 decade agoAm I obligated to buy a wedding gift?
My friend recently got married, the original date was in April and my husband and I weren't invited because they were planning on keeping it family only. Regardless, I helped her do all of her planning, shopped with her, and helped her design and make her centerpieces. When the wedding got postponed to May, she ended up inviting my husband an I. However, we had to drive 200 miles round trip for the wedding. The week before the wedding I planned her bachelorette party and paid for the whole thing. Am I obligated to get her a gift, when she and her new hubby have already lived together 5 years and have their home established?

When Twilight came out, if you bought it at a certain location, the blu-ray version came with a free iTunes digital download - has anybody found out of New Moon will too? I've been looking and none of them expressly mention a complimentary digital companion download.
2 AnswersHome Theater1 decade agoHighland/Scottish Romance Novels?
Lately I have been on a Highland Romance Novel kick. It doesn't matter if it's paranormal or not, but if it's set in the Highlands, any time up until the mid 1700s I've been devouring them. If you have any recommendations for me, authors or novels, I would GREATLY appreciate them!
Here's a taste of what I've been reading lately:
-The Highlander series, by Karen M. Moning (Well, anything by Moning really, her other series is great too)
-The 6 Highlander books by Monica McCarty
-and now I'm working on the Outlander series, by Diana Gabaldon.
3 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoIs it possible to be depressed without feeling sad?
Kind of a weird question, I know, haha.
I'm asking because the last 6-7 months have been pretty hellish- to make a long story short (and not give an entire sob story...) The following has happened to me-
- My job was 'canceled' and I had to take a demotion or risk not having a job (not my fault, the company I work for re-structured, and they cut a lot of jobs (Thankfully, I still have a job though, for which I'm grateful)
- My younger brother passed away totally unexpectedly, definitely the worst experience I have EVER endured...
- My aunt passed away from cancer
- The company my husband worked for for years went bankrupt and liquidated, resulting in 35,000 job losses, including his own, due to the economy he still hasn't found a replacement job that pays the same, so I'm worried about bills
Needless to say, I've been feeling really rundown lately, physically exhausted. I do not feel sad/anxious/worried or any of that, but I just cannot seem to get back to my old energetic self. I feel like I'm in low gear, if that makes sense.
I workout 3 days a week, and I love it, I always feel pumped afterward, and my social/love/work life is not suffering, I just want to know if I'm suffering any type of depression, or if I just need a vacation to recuperate from a crazy past year.
Thanks!
4 AnswersMental Health1 decade agoFair price for a bath bomb fizzy.?
I recently started making bath bomb fizzies.
(For those of you who don't know what a BBF is, it's like an alka-seltzer for your bath tub, You drop one into your tub and it fizzes for a couple of minutes and leaves your water scented and colored, and full of bath oils and yumminess) They're a lot of fun and incredibly relaxing. If you're still wondering what they are, go to lush.com and look under bath products, that will give you a good idea.
My question (for those of you who know what they are, and have purchased them before) is what do you think is a fair price to charge? Mine are 3 ounce spheres (about the size of a tennis ball) On lush.com they range from 5-14 dollars. I don't want to rip anyone off, but at the same time I am looking for a profit here :) I am thinking of charging 6.50 per, or maybe 3 for 15.00
Be honest. Would you pay that? Would you pay more? If you would pay less, how much, and why.
Thanks for your help with my market research!
5 AnswersOther - Beauty & Style1 decade agoInsurance to sell homemade bath/cosmetic products?
My question is for all of you who make and sell your own bath and/or cosmetic products
I make bath bomb fizzies (I am also thinking about starting to make lotions/shower gels...that kind of stuff) My friend wants to sell my products in the salon he owns.
The big question is will he have to add separate insurance to cover homemade products, in case someone (in a very off chance, as my products are all natural) has an allergic reaction or something. Also, will I, as the maker of the products, need insurance as well to cover myself.
Even though my products are safe for sensitive skin and hypoallergenic, the last thing I want is for someone, out to make a quick buck, to sue me or my friend. After all, we're living in a very litigious society.
If you have experience with this sort of thing, please let me know what (if any) type of insurance I (the maker) and my friend (the seller) need to get, and about how much per year it might cost us. If you have the name of your insurance provider that would be helpful too.
Thanks again for all your help! I'm really looking forward to getting this hobby turned into a side-business!
4 AnswersInsurance1 decade agoShrink wrap labels? Like the kind for Easter eggs?
I make and sell bath bomb fizzies and I am looking for the kind of labels that go all the way around the center of the product (which is a sphere), then you use a heat gun and the label shrinks to perfectly fit around the bath bomb.
I know when I was a kid and got Easter egg dying kits they always included a few shrink-wrap type designs that you would put on the egg and then dunk in hot water and it would be like a wrapper around the egg.
Does anybody know what these labels are called and where I can get them? I am having no luck with google since I can't figure out what the heck they're called.
1 AnswerHobbies & Crafts1 decade agoDoes whole-wheat pasta taste ok?
I've been wanting to try it for a while, I make a mean spaghetti sauce, as well as a bow-tie pasta dish, but I want to make it healthier. I've seen the various whole-grain pastas out there, but I'm concerned they'll taste sweet or weird and kind of ruin a good tomato sauce.
If you've tried it personally, what do you think? Will it hold up to a robust sauce, or is it better for something like alfredo. Does it alter the taste much?
8 AnswersOther - Food & Drink1 decade agoQuick and Easy Pasta recipes?
I love pasta, but I always cook the same two dishes... Spaghetti with Italian Sausage, and the following recipe.
Quick and Easy tomato/basil pasta with sausage.
1 pack bowtie pasta
1 large can (drained) diced tomatoes
1 package ground Italian sausage
1 8 ounce container 1/2 and 1/2
fresh basil
boil noodles, Brown sausage, add tomatoes, and cream. Pour in pasta and stir to combine.Add freshly torn basil on top. Let thicken 10 minute.
I'm looking for something new to try, preferably with tomatoes rather than white sauce. Any suggestions?
6 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoI need book recommendations!! please!?
I just finished Karen Marie Moning's Highlander series, and I've read all of her Fever series that are out so far. I'm an avid reader, but the time-travel romance/fantasy has NEVER been something I'd have touched before- however, on recommendation of a friend, I did, and I loved it. If anyone could recommend a good fantasy/romance series, I'd be really appreciative.
I like things like Faeries, Vampires, Werewolves- that type of stuff, but I'm not into aliens. I'm not into demonic-type stuff either, it kind of creeps me out, lol.
I have a soft spot for all things Celtic...Irish/Scottish- so that's a plus too, but not 100% necessary.
I'll list a few of my favorite series' just so you can kind of see where I'm standing...
Karen Moning's Highlander Series
Karen Moning's Fever Series
The Twilight Saga
Harry Potter (who doesn't love HP?)
David Gemmell's Rigante Series
I tried Robert Jordan and just couldn't get into it.
7 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade ago*Graphic* Period question, ladies help me?
I have been on my period for 3 or 4 days now (It came about 2 days early...but that's pretty typical for me) Day one started out unusually heavy, and then on day two, I felt something wet and went to the bathroom, and even though I had in a super tampon, (and only for about an hour) I leaked, but it wasn't really blood, it was more of a watery, pink tinted liquid... not like blood at all and a decent amount of it. It was almost like I peed myself, only, obviously, I haven't, nor have I ever had incontinence issues- I removed my tampon thinking what the heck, well, maybe I bled really hard or something....only my tampon still had a few good hours of use left, had I not removed it. Let me also say that I am not pregnant- I have had regular periods (finally) for over a year, never more than 2 days late, and I religiously take my birth control pills at the same time every day (really, I have never missed one in over 6 years)- I do not have any other pregnancy symptoms either.
A little background info:
I started my period when I was 15, about 8 years ago, I have always suffered major cramps, and heavy bleeding, so I went on the pill at 16. In may I got switched to Ortho Tri-Cyclen Low, after my Necon 1/50 stopped working (it caused me to frequently spot) - These pills worked great from day one in controlling my period, I have never been late, or skipped like I used to do (only problem is they make me emotional...) ANYWAY, I've never had an issue like this before... I mean, I've taken bubble baths and then had water come out, and it was kind of like that, only I hadn't had a bubble bath in about a week.
Any suggestions on what this is would be greatly appreciated.
And any little pre-pubescent boys who make little witty answers to these types of questions will be reported.
Thanks :)
2 AnswersWomen's Health1 decade agoHow do I make the upper left corner start menu shortcut disappear from my desktop?
On my Vista laptop I have a normal taskbar at the bottom of my screen, however at the top, in the upper left corner there is another Vista logo which also accesses my start menu....why, I do not know. It's not another taskbar, just that random little vista logo. Anyway, the problem is, is that it sits on top of everything! My iTunes menus, my internet tool bar, any icon that may be in that place on my desk top. HOW can I make that blasted little icon go away, or at least sit UNDERNEATH the stuff I'm looking at?

3 AnswersSoftware1 decade ago2 part question: Dark Under eye circles AND make up tips for sensitive eyes?
Part 1:
I have had very dark raccoon circles under my eyes since I was a kid, a combination of genetics and horrible seasonal allergies- I get 8-9 hours of sleep every night, so that is not the issue.
My question is what can I use to camouflage, or even better, abolish, these awful zombie circles- I work at a bank and I actually had one of my customers ask if I had been hit in my eyes...
I have very sensitive eyes, a lot of products cause me to tear up and get very itchy eyes, which results in a sneezy, drippy mess... eew.
Part 2:
I have gorgeous bright green, but deep set, eyes. What are some tips to make my eyes 'pop' and look larger, and stand out. Some types of makeup applications make me look like I am glaring or angry. Unfortunately I cannot tolerate eye-liner on my waterline, it triggers my allergies.
Please recommend hypoallergenic products-- Thanks for your time!

I have a really nice crock pot/ slow cooker that I got for my wedding 2 years ago, but the only thing I know how to cook in it is beef stew. What are some tasty crock pot recipes? It would sure make my life easier, not having to cook dinner after working 9 hours. Thanks!!
4 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoRed, Pink, or Black shoes with a black halter dress for a wedding?
I am going to a 6:00 PM non-church wedding next weekend, I am a friend and former co-worker of the groom, but don't know the bride at all- The dress I have chosen to wear is a slightly-longer-than-knee-length black halter (minimum cleavage) with very subtle, small white polka dots. The skirt of the dress tapers into a v-shape at the knee and back. (Although, I am thinking of getting it altered so the skirt is all one length, or the Vs are less prominent...) My question is about the shoes I should wear with it.
Should I wear...
a) Pink BCBG peep-toed wedges
http://www.shoes4go.com/prod/Women/784/20733016/or...
b) Dark Red Gianni Bini sling back peep-toed pumps The style is similar to the link, but without the strap, and satin (almost quilted) instead of patent
http://www.dillards.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/...
c) plain black patent round toe pumps
d) a different color, not pictured
I would like to wear something colored because I think the mostly black dress with black shoes would be too funeral-ish-- but yet I'm not sure the wedges are the right style for this dress, even though I love the color. Any suggestions would be welcome; feel free to throw in any advice about recommended jewelry and/or accessories as well. I have a silver clutch, but I doubt it would look good for me to have a black dress, bright shoes, and a silver clutch.
Thanks!
P.S. When I got married 2 years ago December 30th, I had all of my bridesmaids in black gowns (my colors were Mother of Pearl, Candy Apple Red, and Black) and it looked very elegant and classy -- so I am not someone who thinks that black is off-limits to a wedding as long as it doesn't look like something you'd wear to a funeral.
10 AnswersFashion & Accessories1 decade agoIs there a virus going around?
I am a 23 year old female, and I'm 99% positive I'm not pregnant, as I had a normal period that ended a week ago today.
Sunday, out of nowhere, I started feeling nauseated mildly, but by Monday morning I felt like I had swallowed a whole watermelon, I was completely nauseated and my abdomen felt full- I threw up three times. Since Monday I haven't thrown up anymore, but I've been continuously nauseated and headache--y and have pretty much been surviving on ginger ale and saltine crackers. I went to the doctor Thursday and she drew blood and said that it was probably viral because everything else looked good. Now my neck is a little stiff, but I think that is from constantly laying on the sofa propped up on pillows because that's pretty much all I feel like doing.
has anyone else had/ having these symptoms, and if so, how long did it take to go away, and should I see the doctor again?
Thanks!
PS any tips on making the nausea go away would be greatly appreciated!! It's been a week now and I'm sick of it.

I work in a bank, and all of our air conditioning vents in the ceiling have mold growing around them on the ceiling tiles. The maintenance man refuses to change the filters, rather, he just uses a duster and vacuume to clean the outside part. I believe that the mold/mildew is what's causing respiratory symptoms in myself and several employees, but my boss refuses to call saying "no, the ceiling is just dirty" IS there a place we can call and FORCE them to change the filters and give the ducts a thorough cleaning?
