  • A-Level Physics: Mechanics G481 January 11 2013 - How'd it go?

discuss questions, any you thought were difficult and what answers you got for them....

The last one, about whiplash being proportional to extension, I let 1/2Kx^2 = 1/2mv^2 and rearranged to get in terms of v.... However, i made the biggest mistake a Further Mathematician shouldn't ever!?when i got to kx=mv, i cancelled the m and k!?!?!? so annoying, but, it was only 2 marks so i should pickup 1...

Also, the one about halving the diamter of the wire? i got the gradient to decrease by 4X, or increase by a quarter.... because r^2 is now 1/2r all squared which becomes 1/4r^2.... am i right?

Also, if anyone can find out or remember, could they post every question that was in that paper??

    Thanks!

  • Am I caring for my very new tattoo adequately?

I've had my tattoo for just over 24 hours now and I've vaguely followed my tattooist's aftercare instructions. He told me to keep the cling film on, but Google says you shouldn't suffocate it? So I just kept it on for an hour, removed it, washed it with soap and applied Tattoo Goo to it.

I've then been rinsing it in the shower (two showers a day) and washing my body with shower gel like normal, is this okay? Or will it damage the tattoo? I've also been washing it every morning and night with warm soapy water and also, sometimes during the day if I feel it needs it. Every time I wash it I apply more Tattoo Goo.

My tattooist said to apply the Goo 6 times a day, but online says only 4 - 5 times. I've just been doing it when I feel it's necessary, which has been roughly 4 times. Right now, the black ink is still strong, and is sore (the skin is red around where the tattoo is) and I occaionally see little black / blue specs near the tattoo which I'm assuming is the ink? Apparently this is normal. It hasn't scabbed yet and is protruding from the skin slightly. I'm wondering when it'll start scabbing...

    So basically:

Am I caring enough for it?

    When will it start scabbing?

Is it normal to find ink specs around it?

Is it okay to wash the tattoo with shower gel as if the tattoo wasn't there?

    Thanks in advance :)

  • Where can I be guarenteed a fake I.D. and not be scammed?

Before I start, I don't want any smart 'correct' opinions of me or what I'm doing or Mr. Legal-**** telling me not to get any and wait...

I've just turned 17 and my girlfriend is 18 in a few months and I want to take her places, go clubbing and just show her a good time! So I really want to know the safest and most reliable place to get a genuine look-alike identical fake I.D. And I want advice from people who have purchased one themselves so I know 100% i won't get ripped off! My friend 'bought' himself and a friend a £40 fake I.D and got scammed, so not only did he lose his money, he had to pay his friend back, so he lost £80 all together. I really wouldn't like that,

Any reliable 1st hand advice is much appreciated,

    Thanks you :)

  • I need honest help about pornography?

My girlfriend thinks i've cheated on her because she looked through my history and saw links to websites that hook you up with a sex partner, and i use internet explorer, so there's a button you can click on which shows you which parts of that website you've 'visited'. She said, how can an advert click itself through a website, i know you've cheated on me.

I want to know that it is possible, and likely, that ads from porn sites can do this, and prove i haven't cheated! this girl means the world to me, and i can't bare her thinking i've cheated on her. Please, only helpful answers, i just wanna prove it is possible.

    Thanks.

  • Rearrange this algrebraic equation to show that....?

    I start with (1/3n)(n + 1)(2n+1) + n(n + 1)

and so far, i have... 1/3(n + 1)[(2n + 1)n + 3n]I think I'm correct in sayin that, but I'm having trouble proving it equals this:

    2n/3 X (n + 1)(n + 2)

Please help :( I'm getting so frustrated!

    Thanks in advance, doug

  • Physics mechanics questions?

I had an exam today, on G481 Physics Mechanics GCE AS level. There were a couple of questions I wasn't 100% sure about but they went like this. They look long worded, but they're simple answers so don't get scared by the look of it!

1.) A trolley is on an incline slope, and bells are placed at different distances apart from one another on the slope so that when the trolley rools down the slope, the bells ring with regular tim intervals. (because the trolley accelerates.)

If the mass of the trolley is increased, would the time intervals between the ringing of the bells shorten, lengthen, or stay the same? and why?

I answered stay the same because the vertical component of gravity acting on the bodies is the same, and a body will accelerate due to gravity regardless of it's mass (same rate of acceleration) This was a 3 mark question...... Is that right..?

2.) A women, of weight 590 N, is in a lift. A value, R, is the force (normal reaction force) acting against the upward force of the lift, and must be equal to the downward forces acting on her.

The lift is accelerating. When it begins to decelerate, what happens to the value of R?

I answered, it decreases, because the acceleration of 'a' decreases, the value of 'ma' (f=ma, mass X acceleration) decreases, and since the net downward force = the net upward force, the value of R must also decrease to maintain the systems equilibrium. This was a two mark answer.... Is that right??

Everything else I'm 99% sure I answered correctly, and i'm reasonably sure abut these, just wanted to know! :) thanks in advance!

  • Question about mechanics: Friction?

Okay, a little tricky to understand, so any efforts will be appreciated!

A particle of mass 5Kg is on a rough horizontal surface. The coefficient between this particle and the surface is 'Mu'. This particle is connected to another, hanging vertically over a smooth peg of mass 3Kg. The acceleration of the system is 0.49m/s/s

    Find the value of 'Mu'.

I'm definitely on the right lines, but i keep getting answers only close to the correct one. Please explain in depth how you got to your answer. Thanks in advance, Douglas

  • Linear Programming - A - Level Further Mathematics (Quick Question)?

I'm plotting my given inequalities for this problem, and I'm not sure what to do.

    The inequality x + 2y >(or equal to) 300. i put x = 0 to plot my y co-ordinate at 150...

Now, the x axis only goes up to 200, so when I put y = 0, i can't plot it. Do I extend the graph they've given me? Or do I predict where the line goes? Any help is much appreciated,

    Thanks in advance :)

  • Which one of these is grammatically correct?

'I am eating nothing.'. Is this physically possible? I was debating this with my dad and hes said you can't eat nothing, but you can only not eat anything. But isn't the very definition of nothing the absense of anything? I would like an in depth answer, thanks in advance

  • I need something for my guitar. What is it?

I'm looking for a band that goes round the beginning of the neck and mutes any strings that aren't wanted to be sounded. It looks like a hairband but I don't know what they're called. If someone could give me a look as to where to buy them and what they're called, I'll award ten points

    thanks in advance

Teachers / pupils who have seen the exam. Please give me a good (if not rough) guess at what you think the Maths grade boundaires will be this year. I feel i've done bad even though I regularly score 90+% on past papers. I thought it was hard and my teachers who have seen the paper have deemed it hard. Please help, even if it's just a guess. Cheers :)
