  • Where can I stream/download/watch the Wimbledon finals?

I wanted to watch Lisicki vs Bartoli, but apparently my provider is experiencing outages in my area, and they're working as fast as they can to restore service, but 6h later, the match is over and I couldn't record it. Anyone know of somewhere I could stream/download it after the fact? Preferably with non-potato quality? Is there some website that records TV and mirrors it? ESPN3 doesn't usually do a replay of the finals, especially the day-of, in my experience.

  • Slow connection to only one computer on the network.?

I've got several wireless computers on a network, and they all work fine except for one desktop. When I do a speedtest, it's usually in the 300k down/900k up. When I put a laptop next to it (as close as I can get the antennas), and do a speed test on the laptop, I get 11 megs down and 1 meg up. Latency for both is the same at around ~20 ms. I've never had this problem with just one computer before- usually it's the whole network.

No latency issues between the computer and the router- pinging the router gives an average of 3ms response times. What things should I be looking at to diagnose this issue? There's obviously a problem between the router and the computer that's killing the bandwidth, but I don't know what it could be. Any ideas?

  • How to clean a silk tie?

This weekend I went to a wedding in 110 oF heat (I felt horrible for the bride and groom). I sweat clean through my shirt and even my collar, so when I took the tie off, it was damp with sweat and has deep wrinkles in it (and smells like sweat). Can I take it to a drycleaner? Or can I just wash it in cold water and iron it out if necessary? It's 98% silk/2% cotton.

How should I get these wrinkles and sweat smell out?

  • How to get a government-issued document proving California residency?

I need to prove California residency, and despite living here for 22 years, it's still difficult for me to do.

I need to provide a "Government-issued (city, county, special district, state or federal) documentation that has all of the following - - This does not include a drivers license or DMV-issued ID card:

-The name of the transferee as it appears on the transferee's CDL or CID.

-The residential address of the transferee as it appears on the transferee's CDL or CID or the address update attachment to the driver's license/identification card."

My driver's license specifically will not work. My vehicle is registered to my father. My energy bill is paid online, and my internet/cable bill is paid by my roommate. In the past, I've used my income tax refund check for government issued documentation with my name and address on it, but I'm not sure that I have one of those coming any time soon. Is there any way that I can get some government-issued document sent to my house with my name and address on it?

For example, if I register to vote with another party, will they send me a document?

  • How do you properly handle a flashlight and a pistol indoors?

I went shooting with my cousin who is a police officer, and I noticed that when he's done firing his pistol, he brings it in close to his body. When I asked him about it, he said it was because when you're indoors, you don't want to put it out far in front of you for someone to grab onto, especially if you're going around a corner or something.

What I didn't think about at the time, but now I'm curious about is: what if you had a handheld flashlight? I imagine that it'd be more difficult to properly aim the flashlight if you're holding it close to your torso. So, how do you properly bring the pistol into your body while aiming a flashlight? As I understand it, your nondominant hand is used to hold the flashlight and is placed underneath and contralateral to your dominant hand to form a stable platform for your shooting hand. Retracting that platform to my body is very uncomfortable. What's a good way to handle both objects indoors?

  • How do I treat my cough without getting drowsy?

Today I developed a nonproductive cough that burns in my chest every time it happens. I'd like to get an OTC cough suppressant, but I'm worried about sedation. I need to study tomorrow, and it's hard to stay awake and focused as it is. I don't have a runny nose or any other symptoms. What can I get over the counter in America for this?

  • Gonna get some pants modified, how does that work?

I got some dress slacks, 32" was too short, but 34" was too long, so I got the longer ones, figuring that I could get them modified later (the place I got them from wouldn't do it). I've never taken clothes in to be modified before- they've always done it at the shop in the past. Seeing as how I just moved to a new area, I don't know where to look. I've heard that some dry cleaners do modifications, but I'm not sure how legit that is. It's just shortening the legs, so I can't imagine that would be too terribly difficult- I don't even think you have to open up any seams for that. They're already hemmed, but I don't think that's a problem. Would it be okay to do it at a cleaners, or should I seek out a more professional tailor? I'm not sure if it's something I should spend a lot of money on, since it's a super simple procedure, but they were modestly expensive ($100), so I suppose it wouldn't make sense to skimp on cheap labor (no sense in having nice pants when one leg is shorter than the other, right?)

I want to go in and have them put the pins in while I'm wearing the pants, so that I can decide what kind of break I want them to have. Would a cheaper tailor be able to do that for me? Incidentally, should I wear the pants into the store with me, or would a cheaper place just ask me how much I want them shortened without demonstrating it for me with pins?

Is there any other advice that I should be aware of when consulting a third party tailor? I don't really know much about the process.

  • Does fat intake impact weight loss, or just caloric deficit?

TL,DR: Trying to lose about 10 lbs. As long as my caloric expenditure is greater than my caloric intake, I'll lose weight, right? Does it matter that some of these foods (i.e. steak) happen to have a large amount of fat?

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10 months ago, I was 5'11", and weighed 130 lbs (BMI ~18, iirc), and I'm currently 22 years old. I started eating a lot, going to the gym, and I got up to about 150 (BMI ~20) in the course of 3 months where I stayed for quite some time. It was mostly muscle, which was awesome.

Then I started medical school, and stopped going to the gym as much (only about 1x/week, mostly for lifting). After 4-5 months of that, my weight is now 158, and I'm concerned that it's fat, mostly because my arm diameter has gone down, and I'm noticing extra skin beginning to spill over my waistband (the beginnings of a muffin top). I realize that my BMI is not terrible and I don't need to really LOSE weight, but I'm seeing a shift in body composition from primarily muscle to more fat. I want to gain muscle mass, not fat mass.

Current BP is 125/85, and my diet has been awful. Today I started a food log to reduce Na intake, and to keep track of my calories. I plan to lose weight by increasing cardio and calorie expenditure, while reducing caloric intake (and drop my BP by reducing Na). As I was starting my food log, I realized that a lot of foods have a lot of fat in them. I was under the impression that weight gain was simply calories in minus calories out.

So, my question is: should I feel guilty about eating this steak with a lot of fat in it, as long as I account for the calories in that dietary fat? I'm not TOO concerned with my serum lipids, because I had a lipid panel done 15 months ago when my diet was far worse (54% of my 3000 calorie diet came from fat), and my LDL was 96 mg/dL, and total cholesterol 167. HDL/LDL = 1.7

So I think that the big things I need to watch out for are Calories and Salt, right? Or am I doing it wrong? I've never had to try to LOSE weight before..

  • Do I need my lower control arm replaced?

I took my car (2005 Scion tC, 55k miles, salvage title) into Pep Boys for a break job, and they told me that I needed to get the passenger side lower control arm (part of the suspension?) replaced. They showed me how the passenger side wheel would rock forward and backward when pushed, and how the driver's side wheel was rock solid. I told them not to replace it just yet because it's expensive (and I wanted to do some research first). They said that I needed to get it replaced and that the car wasn't safe to drive until I did.

So my questions are: is this genuinely a problem, or are they BSing me? Can you simply tighten it, instead of replacing the whole arm? Lastly, if I do need to get it replaced, where should I look to get a cheap replacement, since I imagine that theirs won't be the least expensive that I can find.

Please forgive my ignorance- I'm really uninformed when it comes to cars!

  • Quick hardy-weinberg question?

I'm given the frequency of an autosomal recessive disorder (which I'm treating as p^2) and asked to calculate several frequencies, but the one that has got me stuck is the last one:

"Calculate the probability that two unrelated, unaffected parents will have an affected child."

Isn't it asking me to calculate the probability of their kids expressing the recessive disease (p^2), which was given in the question stem?

Or am I supposed to take into consideration the fact that neither of them are homozygous recessive and that there's a 2/3 chance that each of them are carriers? (2/3)^2*(1/2)^2. That doesn't make much sense...

  • What does "a splash" mean in the context of cocktails?

I went to a bar and ordered a Jameson and gigner. I don't think the bartender heard the ginger bit, because he just served me a jameson on the rocks. I asked him if he could throw in a splash of ginger (just to take off the edge- I'm still pretty new), and he gave me the dirtiest, incredulous look, took care of some other business, and started talking to me like I was an idiot- most of which I couldn't quite hear over the roar of the bar, but it was something to the extent of "I can't put in a splash because...something." There was some room at the top of the glass, so he offered to just top it off with ginger ale for me, which is what I wanted. Does "splash" mean something specific in terms of cocktails? I just wanted him to throw in a squirt/little bit of ginger ale, but apparently I asked him to do it incorrectly.

  • Can I drive after 1 Kamikaze or Vodka Gimlet?

I'm going out with a friend tonight, and I'm driving home. I wanted to try out a kamikaze or a vodka gimlet, but I'm still pretty new to drinking, so I'm not entirely sure of my limit. I know that it takes about 5 beers for me to get a buzz, and the last time I got really drunk, it took 5 glasses of wine, a long island and a vodka shot.

Can I have 1 drink and still drive?

  • If a drink comes as a shot or as a cocktail, whats the proper way to specify which one you want?

I'm pretty new to drinking in general, but I was looking at some recipes for some drinks and I noticed that some of them make small (1.5 oz) volumes and are served neat, while other recipes for the same drink makes larger (4 oz) volumes, and are served on ice.

I take this to mean that the first one is a shot, and the second is like a mixed drink/cocktail?

If I'm at the bar, how do I specify which one I want? For example, would I say "I'd like a kamikaze shot" or, in the case of the larger drink, "I'd like a kamikaze on the rocks" or "I'd like a kamikaze cocktail"?

If I get it on the rocks, is it assumed that I'm going to get the larger drink? Or will they serve me basically a 1.5 oz shot in a larger glass with ice?

  • Is finding someone on Craigslist Personals sleezy? Also does "on the curvy side" = "fat"?

Just got dumped and I'm moving to a new town in 4 days (part of the reason for the breakup). Looking for someone to kind of jumpstart the growth of my social circle, and so I was checking craigslist for personals. Is that considered sleezy? I'm a little worried about the kind of people I'll find on here. Also, when someone says she's "on the curvy side," does that mean "I'm fat"?

  • Girlfriend wants to break up with me because I'm "too good" for her. What do I do?

So my girlfriend of 2 weeks and I just moved to different cities. Now she wants to break up with me because, I quote, "[I] am too good for [her]" and "[I] deserve better," and she's sorry that she can't be that girl for me. She says it'll hurt less if she lets go of me now rather than me letting go of her later after she's more attached. What's she after? Does she think that I'm going to break up with her and hurt her, so she's avoiding that? What do I even say to that? o.O

She seems very concerned about how previous guys have hurt her, and so I feel like I'm being punished for a) what other guys have done to her, and b) my efforts to be the best that I can be. Why wouldn't you hold onto someone that you think is a good catch?

  • Can anyone recommend any guns like the Colt 1908 in .22 or 9mm?

I saw the colt 1908 at a gunshow and loved the little guy to pieces. Unfortunately, with .25 ammunition being as expensive as 9mm (9x19, of course- not .380), I figured that I might as well get a subcompact 9mm if I'm going to be spending that much on ammunition. I'd rather get a gun that size in a .22, however- just so that it won't fly out of my hand when I try to shoot it, being so small and all. Also it's much cheaper to shoot than the .25.

I suppose that, ideally, I'd like the 1908 in a .22, but I'd rather not buy used if I don't have to. Any recommendations on new .22s that fit that the 1908's footprint?
