WAR IS MENSTRUAL ENVY!

  • Swollen glands in neck?

I've had a small swollen gland under my jaw for over a month now. A week after it first appeared, I then noticed two larger swollen glands suddenly on the sides of my neck.

I haven't had a fever, I'm not sneezing, coughing, or blowing my nose, I don't feel fatigue, etc. My throat isn't sore. I've had mono before and these swollen glands are nothing like it.

However, I'm always very aware of the swollen glands. They don't necessarily hurt, but there's a very dull, general ache to them. What could this be a sign of?

  • Suggestions for a good pro-choice bumper sticker?

I live in Cincinnati, and it's rare that more than two days go by without seeing a so-called pro-life bumper sticker on a car in front of me. I drive by a homemade sign on my way to work reading, "Abortion stops a beating heart."

With all this propaganda, and a scrape on my bumper I wouldn't mind covering, any suggestions?

I'd like "Pro-choicers support accessible and affordable contraceptives, comprehensive sex education, gay adoption and foster parenting, child care subsidies, universal health care, and democracy" but it's much too long.

  • How many of your answer appeals are actually approved?

I spend a lot of time in the Religion and Spirituality section, where you're likely to be reported even with the most respectful of answers if your beliefs differ from someone else's. I usually don't bother appealing for that reason.

However, I received a violation recently because a troll asked if Christians felt all 5 inches of God's love. His question was not removed, but mine was, since all I said was, "I don't use male pronouns when referring to god."

Of course, Yahoo did not reinstate my answer.

Yahoo must get too many appeals to check each one individually, but it's frustrating. They shouldn't even have that option if they don't do anything about it.

    What about you all?

  • Have you ever read the Dr. Seuss Bible?

"One day," God said, "This is what I will do. I'll send down my son, I'll send him to you, to clear up this humpity bumpity hullabaloo. His name will be Christ and he'll never wear shoes. And his pals will all call him the King of the Jews!"

  • All the weird sh** you ate as children?

I have young cousins in town, the youngest obsessed with eating peeled shrimp and jelly for at least one meal a day. While it's nothing I would ever recommend, or consume myself, it reminded me off all the odd things I liked when I was little. I used to eat frozen peas and my sister had our parents pack peanut butter and imitation bacon bits sandwiches in her lunchbox.

What's the most unusual food you loved as a child? Or that you've noticed your children liking?

  • What is your favorite internet radio station? Its format?

After it went off the local airwaves, I still listen to indie rock through WOXY by its website.

Right now, I'm waiting for my request to play on Flashback Alternatives, specializing in 80's post-punk, new wave, and synthpop.

What do you like? Anything to recommend? I wouldn't mind learning a good foreign station.

  • What should we do about users that post the same two verses multiple times a day?

I cannot violate Yahoo Community Guidelines by revealing who, but I'm sure you know who this is.

Since Yahoo will not suspend the account, and it's more interesting to answer for the sake of newbies than block him, what should we do?

My proposal is to have the women mail their used tampons to him, but that response lacks gender equity. Your suggestions?

  • Have any of you experienced gay-related violence?

Last year, homosexuals were the only group that experienced an increase in hate crimes in the United States.

I don't think heterosexuals are aware that hate crime laws specifically mention real OR PERCEIVED sexual orientation. Were you aware of the recent case where two brothers leaving a church service (or support group, something Christian) were mistaken for a gay couple and beaten, to the point where one of them died from his head injury?

In high school, in the eighth largest school district in Ohio in a mostly white, affluent suburb, I was pinned against a classroom wall with a knife to my throat, only for defending a gay friend. This friend was later moved to the alternative school, primarily for discipline cases and presumed drop outs, for his own safety.

Another user mentioned in the question about what to say instead of, "I'm sorry for your loss," that her brother was killed for being gay and received at least 4 thumbs down.

    What is wrong with people?

So you think it's a choice, or a sin, or whatever, but how is it enough for you to think that violence is an appropriate response to somebody trying to live and love like anyone else?

  • Have any of you visited the Creation Museum in Hebron, KY?

I'm very curious but in good faith (so to speak), wouldn't justify putting money into their hands.

Awhile back somebody documented the "men among dinosaurs" in this Flickr set: http://www.flickr.com/photos/scalzi/sets/721576030... Very detailed. Very LONG, actually, but I recommend you looking through it when you have the time.

My favorite part was the plaque dedicated to incest.

  • How can I contact Yahoo answers about a user who mistakenly reported me?

She said some ignorant things about the Bible needing to be followed 100% of the time, so I messaged her with some of the biblical teachings inconsistent with current Christian beliefs. One of them was the fact that the Bible makes references to marrying off rape victims or stoning them beside their attacker. In no way do I condone any of it, and I wasn't threatening, just a bit harsh in that way of "I know better than you." Apparently she's a rape victim and thought I was saying she should be stoned, though in no way did I make it about her. I'm also a rape victim and wouldn't taunt anyone for that.

Long story short, she reported me. I'd like to defend myself to Yahoo Answers because she completely misunderstood it. She blocked me and I can't apologize. Is Yahoo likely to overract to this? I've never been reported before.

  • How many Christians does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

Only two, as long as they're married.

  • Those of you who believe in the sancticty of life...?

"And if men struggle and strike a woman with child so that she has a miscarriage, yet there is no further injury, he shall be fined as the woman's husband may demand of him, and he shall pay as the judges decide. But if there is any further injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise." - Exodus 21:22-25

Seems pretty clear that a fetus is not the equivalent of a human. Apply this as you see fit.

`Better the miscarriage than he, for it comes in futility and goes into obscurity; and its name is covered in obscurity. It never sees the sun and it never knows anything; it is better off than he.'" - Ecclesiastes 6:4-5

  • Can one of you who said it was wrong to punish the baby for someone else's crime explain...?

...how it's fair to punish (and effectively kill) the sexually abused nine year old girl for somebody else's crime? How is her life any less valuable?

  • How would the discovery of extraterrestrial life affect your Christianity?

Considering the likely chances that there is viable life elsewhere in the universe (probably not any that's made contact, though) would it actually impact your belief system to discover there were nonhuman sentient creatures out there? For those of you who actually follow Christian doctrine...

  • Ask and answer a repeat question?

It's almost as if nobody bothers to read through the questions before asking their own, so I propose putting them together in one spot. I'll start:

Q: My boyfriend was only inside me for a minute. Could I be pregnant?

    A: YES

Q: My boyfriend didn't come inside me. Could I be pregnant?

    A: YES

...and so on and so on. Your turn!

  • Do I report $197 on my 1040-EZ?

Earlier last year, I spent three days in training at a Macy's call center before leaving for a better job. Should I expect any sort of tax document from them since I had to fill out paperwork beforehand, including a W-9?

(Also, don't let anyone you know take a job there. I couldn't believe what a negative environment it was. The woman I shadowed on the last day had three performance awards on her desk but was using racial slurs over the phone.)

  • Why do makeover shows think they need to trade glasses for contacts?

Aren't there enough attractive designer frames to keep glasses on the fashion victim? Personally, I started with contacts and switched for the convenience. Now I believe I look better with glasses with my wide cheekbones. That has to be true for other people (maybe those with smaller eyes).

So, isn't this treatment a little out-dated since Dorothy Parker's snarky "men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses"? What's your opinion? Are eyeglasses still ugly?

  • Teenage girls: why do you have unprotected sex? Pulling out isn't effective.?

Pulling out is NOT birth control. (Technically, neither is Natural Family Planning.) When there are so many opportunities to get free or discounted health services to protect yourself, and condoms available in every grocery and drugstore, why do you continue tempting fate by going bare? If you think you're saving money, think how much an abortion or prenatal care will cost. If you think it feels better, is that comparable to the amount of time you worry about missing your period? is it more embarrassing to purchase condoms than a home pregnancy test?

Help me understand, those of you who keep posting about unprotected sex.

I know different methods of birth control are not 100% effective, but that's no excuse. You've made the decision to forgo abstinence for sexual activity, so why are you taking even more risks?
