What are successful ways you have treated a mild hoarding issue / depression issue?
Ultimately, I have a mild hoarding issue. It is not bad, but I find that I cannot part with things I do not use in fear that I 'may' need them later on. I believe this fear stems from my life growing up. My parents and I never got along, and therefore I never had a safe home like environment. There was always the risk of being kicked out for little to no reason. (My mother is bipolar and my father was emotionally abusive). I never felt safe. I never knew when 'today would be it that I would be out on the streets'. My parents developed this culture of fear and to this day, being over 30, I still cannot overcome it. Tomorrow I may loose my job, etc. Who knows, right? It's a real fear but it should not consume my life. Anyone have anything similar they have gone through? How do you move on?
2 AnswersPsychology5 years agoRecently on Unemployment... but no jobs to apply too?
I was a Director of Public Relations where I worked. Unfortunately, the business decided to close down completely at the end of March (they were not financially unstable.) the family business decided they couldn't work together anymore and shut it all down. No notice. No severance. Nothing.
I've been on unemployment for a month now and I'm finding it VERY hard to apply for 2 jobs a week. There is just nothing around here!! I thought I was suppose to apply for jobs that meet my criteria? Or am I suppose to apply to any job, even part-time retail? Honestly, those jobs are the only ones here. And trade jobs... which I obviously am not qualified to do. It says to look at least 45 minutes from your location of residence, and I am.
Any suggestions? I was just going to start sending out resumes to companies, regardless of whether they have a job posting or not. Does that count? Helpful suggestions please! Tips?
I have never been on unemployment before. A company I worked for did fold about 5 years ago, but I didn't do on unemployment. I took a job at a Macy's, and then a second job, and then a third. I was working 13 hour days, 6-7 days a week just to make sure I didn't have to go on welfare. It was the worst mistake of my life, because I had little to no time to actually do proper job searching. And when I did find jobs, they didn't want to hire a 'cashier' for a college level job, regardless of my education and experience.
2 AnswersOther - Business & Finance7 years agoIs Accutane the best choice? What is your advice to reduce side effects?
I'm 29 years old and suffering with adult acne. I've had bad acne on my face since I was a teenager. I never got it 'treated' because I purposely didn't want to take medications and thought it would go away on its own. Obviously, it didn't and it's not going too.
I do NOT have cyst acne. I have 'normal' acne but it's constant on my face. Worse yet, every pimple I ever had leaves a red mark, no picking required, that lasts for at least a year (I have pale skin, so this looks horrible).
I do not have 'bad' acne on my back or chest (only a few pimples)
My family does have acne history. My family DOES have depression and mental disorder history.
I saw a dermatologist and he suggested Accutane. One of the reasons for this suggestion is because my skin IS healthy (no dryness, no 'feeling' of irritation, I use aloe vera gel 100% for a moisturizer, very gentle cleanser, and no over the counter acne creams help). I take very good care of my skin.
I CANT live with acne anymore. I'm going to be 30 and no amount of makeup hides the red spots completely. I WANT to enjoy summer, to swim, to go to the gym without dying from anxiety because my acne makes me look like a disease carrier.
Anyone use Accutane in my age range? Will it work?
What is your advice to reduce side effects? I'm not interested in 'horror stories'. Just what helped, didnt help, or made it worse. Baths? Oils for the skin? Exercising? Meditation? Anyway to reduce depression? Vitamins to take or stay away from?
1 AnswerSkin Conditions7 years agoHow do you cope with only eating 1500 calories a day with a low metabolism?
This question is for people like me. Probably female, Low metabolism, probably short in stature, who cannot eat more than 1400-1500 calories a day or they gain weight.
Before someone says 'you should eat 2000 calories a day!' Stop. That's not true at all. I use to go by that rule when I was younger and I ended up 170 pounds. :( I never understood WHY, because I followed the 2000 a day rule. Only four years ago did I do some serious digging and found out that my metabolism can't support that. I can ONLY eat 1500 a day. Anymore and I GAIN weight. No matter what.
So, I'm curious about people who are like me and can only eat 1200-1500 calories a day. HOW do you do it!?
I constantly yo-yo diet. Not because I binge... I don't, not really. But because I need to eat, sometimes what everyone else is eating.
Let me give you an example: at work we have a community lunch. People make meals and bring it in to share. I feel embarrassed as I only take tiny portions of the food, because I DONT know the calorie content. Everyone thinks I'm on a diet but I'm not. I'm just trying to... not gain weight.
So How do you survive?! So many times I find myself upset at how unfair it is that I can't eat like everyone else or I can't go out to eat and enjoy a real meal. I have to constantly calorie count (which is annoying). And lately I have been fasting during the day to make sure I don't overeat at night.
I'm just curious how other people handle it on a day-to-day basis.
2 AnswersDiet & Fitness7 years agoTip for Vallet parking when it's the only way?
Do you tip for valet parking if it's the ONLY way to have your car parked at a hotel?
Basically, I will be going to a downtown city this summer for a conference. The hotel I'm staying at only offers this (I can't park my own car, basically.) So I have to drop the car off with them and pick it up after my stay.
I'm going on a very limited budget (going for a conference, like I said, on my own dime. Not a companies, so it's not a vacation or anything like that). And the hotel is expensive as it is. I have to pay for parking overnight, every single night, with an 18% tax. Do I, have, to tip?
I don't want too. I feel the parking expensive every night, plus a 18% tax covers the vallet employee very very well. Plus, I don't want too because they do not make it a choice. I would prefer to park my own car, but since that's not an option... Am I to assume everything is included in the hotel room and parking rate, as far as making sure the employee is compensated well?
Any advice will be helpful. And when I say limited budget, I mean it. It's expensive. I'll be using half a months wages, at minimum, for this conference. And that's if I don't eat out at all.
And before anyone says anything, this is a very important conference to me. I'm hoping it opens networking doors for potential jobs in the future, and it's for a very important cause. I'm going. I just need to be severely careful with my money.
2 AnswersEtiquette7 years agocan you help a child that is NEGLECTED (not abused?)?
This is a tough one to answer... anyone who HAS experience, please answer.
Basically, for the past 2-3 years I have watched my nieces and nephews be neglected by their parents. They have to feed themselves (they are under 6 yrs of age), their parents wont bath them normally, they live in filth because their parents are too lazy to clean, the baby has had a rash for months, they aren't dressed right for weather, etc. But... this isn't abuse, because they 'are' fed and not openly bruised.
can social services do ANYTHING? This is a serious question. Can they actually 'do' anything? Because if I call them and they show up at their home, and they won't actually DO anything... things will get worse for the kids. Whenever someone mentions something to the parent, such as the kids should have baths regularly, that parents are responsible for feeding the kids, etc... the parents CUT the kids off from them. If social services are called, I know for a fact that the parents won't 'change their ways', they will just remove the problem. Which is letting the kids out of the house, letting them see their family, etc. They will cut the kids off from anyone who notices the neglect. Grandparents included. And myself and those people who care about the kids enough to notice, are the ONLY hope these kids have. The ONLY positive influence in their lives. I have them 2 days every week . It's the only time they are in a clean environment with structure, where they are fed wholesome meals. They never want to go home. I take them on vacations, to concerts, to shows, festivals, fairs, amusement parks. I take them to sports. Their parents refuse to do anything for them. An unemployed dad and unemployed mom both are too lazy to take their kid to a soccer practice!
Again, please only respond with experience to this. From what I have read, social services won't DO anything for neglect. Unless the child is being severely physically abused or malnourished. They just come in, slap a wrist, and things get worse.
It's heartbreaking to see the kids in this condition. Hell, the kids were 3 hours late to their OWN birthday party because their mother took 4 hours to 'get herself ready' in front of a mirror. They don't have money for food but the father fills the fridge with beer. The mother goes and gets laser hair removal and spa treatments EVERY WEEK. They were just evicted from a house. Any advice, please!!
If the reality is that the social services wont do anything, I can't risk calling them and having the kids in worse conditions.
1 AnswerFamily8 years agoHonda Accord 2013... Do you own one? How is the basque red pearl ii color to maintain?
This is two questions!
First: Do you own a Honda Accord 2013? What do you think of it? Is it worth it? Has it given you any trouble? Do you get the mpg promised?
Second: Who owns a Honda Accord 2013 in basque red pearl ii? I am interested in a 2013, but they only have it in this color and I wanted silver. How does dirt/scratches show on it? Do you have to clean it as much as a black/dark car? Is your insurance higher? Any 'attention' from cops? And HOW does it look!? Do you like it? As I said, I wanted silver because it's the best as not showing dirt or scratches. How does this color seem? Again, its the basque red pearl ii color. A dark, purple tinted red. I can't decide if it looks nice on the car or cheap...
Honda8 years agoTip a massage therapist?
Is it ok to NOT tip a massage therapist? I'll be getting a massage with a LTM at a massage school (so pretty much these massage therapists just graduated their massage school). I don't understand this idea of tipping them. I'm paying for them to do their job. I'm paying for a service. Why in the world should I tip them? No one tips me at work, regardless of the good job I do. I've also worked in retail before, which I believe is like the service industry. Again, no one tipped me. If I'm paying $80.00 for a service (which is damn expensive) why should I give another $20.00?
I was told I should tip or I'll be looked down upon. ...Honestly? Yeah, so what if they get a small amount of the money from the price of the service/product... Reality check: So does everyone! I only get a small amount of money where I work, compared to the money I bring in. It's called business. If they can't make a living being a massage therapist, why should I feel responsible for that? I couldn't make a living in retail (or hell... even a desk job doesnt pay well, even with my college education)... so you know what I did? I got a second job. And work 12 hours a day (at one point in my life).
It is annoying to me, to feel pressured to do something like tip. I never understood it. I don't mind tipping waitress/waiters, because they are basically slaves. But seriously! Why do we have to tip people for just doing their jobs? And yes, I worked my fair share of min. wage jobs (a college education means nothing anymore. Yay for expensive schooling so I can work for min. wage), and I worked HARD. But no one gave me handouts.
7 AnswersEtiquette8 years agoDentist vs endodontist?
This is something I'm sure someone asked before but I have a special question regarding price.
First, I obviously need a root canal. My dentist normally does them for around $850.00 including everything. The last one he did... the tooth, although i feel no pain, is sensitive when I 'tap' on it. Is that suppose to happen? Shouldn't I not feel anything? I'm really concerned because if I have to get this new root canal done, I dont want to get it done from a dentist who didnt do it right. But how can I tell!?
Second, I called the endodonist and he quoted the price of a root canal there to be around $750.00. HOW is a specialist cheaper than a dentist? This concerns me. Does that mean the endodontist is 'cheap' and therefore not a good idea? Is one endodontist different from the next? Or are all endodontists a better bet than a dentist? And can I trust an endodontist to make the tooth look nice? The root canal is in the front, so it has to be done nice. I know my dentist also does 'cosmetic' dentistry, but the endodontist doesn't.
Advice?
2 AnswersDental8 years agoMobile home or renting?
So... Let me break it down. I make around 35k a year (or I should with this new job I hope I'll get). Renting is expensive. I have 3 cats. All rescues as kittens. I would have to relocate for this job, but renting is just SO expensive. Anywhere decent will be at least 700 dollars. Plus I have to account for the extra charge for my cats. So we'll say at least 800-900 dollars to rent an apartment.
So I started to look for houses to buy, but they too (obviously) are expensive. Even though they would offer a lower cost per month. And that's when I came across mobile homes.
They have the space I need and will be less than renting. Some of the mobile homes (used) are around 15k-30k to buy. That's maybe 100 a month. Plus the land rent which is around 400. That's still significantly cheaper than rent. And I would only look for Energy Star mobile homes.
So I guess that's my question, is it worth it? I figure, if I buy a cheap mobile home around 15k, I'll be paying at least 300 dollars less than I would be renting. And yes, I know mobile homes go 'down' in value. But I'm STILL throwing money away renting.
If I rent an 800 apartment for a year: $9600
If I buy a 15k-20k mobile home +rent costs for roughly 500: $6000
That's over a $3,000 difference. So in three years, i would 'save' 9k. Which would make up for most of the cost of the mobile home anyway! And, eventually, if I want to sell the mobile home, I'd be getting money 'back' even if it's only a lousy 5k.
So what does everyone think? Is it WORTH it? Please provide experience! It's a huge choice, but I feel like it's the only one I have unless I want to eat ramon noodles for four years in an apartment.
2 AnswersRenting & Real Estate8 years agoHow do I help hamster. Is something wrong with her? Peeing everywhere. Peeing in wheel. Sleeping all the time.?
I have a hamster named Ziplock, female. My sister's hamster had babies and couldn't find homes for all of them. I took her. I have two cats, but I made sure the cage was as safe as possible. She's living in a gallon fish tank (the bottom with the hamster bedding, house, tunnel) and a topper (specifically for hamsters. This is where her food bowl is, her water bottle, and a chew toy or two).
The problem? Two, actually. She doesn't seem to wake up until really late (like 1am). And, more importantly, she pees and poops in the wrong places!!
She use to have a wheel on the bottom floor. I had to take it out, however. She kept peeing in it. I bought the safe SPCA approved wheel (no holes for her paws to get caught in) so the pee just dried and built up. This happened before, and I took the wheel out for a week, hoping she would establish a place to go. When I put it back in, she still peed in the wheel. So I had to take it out again.
Today, I noticed her food dish was finally empty, (it still had food in it yesterday night). But now it looks like she peed in the bowl!! It's dried pee at the bottom, but... also around the entire bowl. I mean, the bowl (sides, the top rim, and bottom) are FILTHY. I don't understand how that's even possible. How she even did it, unless the literally 'sprayed' pee.
I'm very concerned. since I took the wheel out, I did give her about 4-5inches of bedding, to help her establish rooms and dig more. But I don't know what's the matter. She gets up so late, that I rarely even see her. When she is up, I call her name, and she comes up to the door. I'll put the hamster ball there and she'll hop right in, excited! And I'll let her run around a cat-free room for 20-30 minutes.
Is she depressed? Sick? Is this normal behavior? Is her cage too 'boring'? Should it be bigger? She's a Syrian hamster.
Is she stressed from the cats? They do watch her sometimes, and one taps on the glass occasionally... but she doesn't seem to have a problem with them. She'll just hang out on the side of the cage, or go about her business.
I tried a potty corner, but I can't see to locate her pee after the wheel is out. With my past hamsters, I would find clumps of bedding (pee area). With her, I don't. There seems to be poop along the bottom of the cage ranging in a large area. AND in her little home (where she keeps her food).
Anyone with hamster expertise, I'd like your opinions.
4 AnswersRodents9 years agoIs my cat too thin, need help?
I always worry about the weight of my cats. The fact is, they are around 8-10lbs, which should be good. But the reason I worry is because, when they stand and walk, if I run my fingers down their back, under their fur, I can feel their ribs. It feels like there is a thin layer of fat over the ribs... but I can't be sure. It might just be their fur and skin? I can also feel the bones at their tail base very well. They have an hourglass shape, but I dont know if it's too deep or not because of the fur.
However, when the cat is laying down, he has 'chubby' spots. And I'm wondering if that's not fat, but loose skin. I know spayed females have a 'belly' of loose skin because of this purpose.
It worries me because I go to great measure to make sure my cats are NOT obese and live long healthy lives. I feed them wet food, grain free, Evo. 2 times a day. The boys (around 9-10lbs) get about 7tbsp of food a day. the girl (smaller cat) gets about 5.
If I feed them more, it seems like they get fatter. Is that normally how they are suppose to look? A bit chubby? Or are they suppose to look thin? I don't know...
2 AnswersCats9 years agoIf insurance wont cover mammogram, and i get one anyway out of pocket, will they cover any treatments?
Basically, Breast cancer runs heavily in my family. My mom got it in her 30's, and they 'JUST' found it. If they waited any longer, she would have died. They had to take her entire breast.
I'm 27. And I have large breasts (I dont know if thats a factor, but I think it might be because they are compressed and moved more than normal sized breasts? Example is running or sleeping on my stomach.) Well, I go to the doctor and get a breast exam once a year. I read online it should take 15 minutes per breast to do a correct exam. My doctor does BOTH in like... less than 5 minutes. So I'm not confident she's actually 'really' looking. I do breast exams, but not religiously even though I know I should. But like I said, I'm 27 and if I am going to get cancer, it is probably already developing in me. Considering my mom's young age getting it. And i DONT want to wait until they 'feel' it and I have to get my entire breast cut off.
Well, since insurance companies are bloodsucking greedy corporations, any 'prescreening' for breast cancer or anything, for that matter, is out of the question. Even though, logically, it would be MUCH cheaper for them in the long run to catch these things BEFORE major treatment is necessary.
ANYWAY, if I pay out of pocket for a mammogram or breast Thermography to take a closer look at my breasts and make SURE nothing is already starting, will they cover me after?
I'm asking a serious, honest question. They will NOT cover anything like that (I have private insurance, individual so its very expensive anyway). If I get this test done by not going through them, will they cover treatments, etc after, if the tests find anything? Or would they claim preexisting condition, or just refuse to acknowledge the test, or STILL say I'm too young and refuse treatment?
Please answer only if you have experience. I know it doesnt 'sound like something they could possibly do' but the fact of the matter is, Insurance companies do this thing all the time. Deny people coverage or treatment, EVEN if they've had the same insurance company for years and paid in thousands upon thousands of dollars. (Sad but true.)
I dont want to get the test done if it means its a death sentence for me. or if they will raise my insurance cost HUGELY (so that I cant even pay for it anymore. It's 150 dollars as it is and I make less then 20k.
Also, if anything is wrong with me, and say I do get a real job that has benefits, and I wanted to switch insurance companies... they would consider it a preexisting condition, wouldnt they?
4 AnswersCancer9 years agoI want to apply for an Assistant Analyst position but they require a writing sample. But what kind?
I want to apply for an Assistant Analyst position. But they require a writing sample be brought in with the resume. Which is fine... except I have no idea what they are looking for., as far as a writing sample. I've written everything from Press Releases, to long reports, to newspaper articles. Does anyone have any idea? In the job description, it does not have any details about any writing I would have to do (as far as what kind of reports, etc.) so I have no hints there.
Any help would be great
1 AnswerAdministrative and Office Support9 years agoCat, 3 yrs old, stiff back legs and afraid to go to vet. 'sways' her hips to walk. Unsure if this is normal?
My female cat, Rini, is almost 3 years old. She is a happy cat, if not a little scared of her bigger brother. Plays a little bit. But eats well, her eyes are always alert, and she is relatively a petite cat.
I always noticed her hips 'sway' when she walks. I always thought this was adorable, because her tail is straight up and curls at its end (it looks like she is doing a dainty little walk). But lately I've been wondering if something is wrong with this? Her back legs... they seem.. stiff. Watching my other cats walk from behind, I notice their legs bend and move forward like their front legs. Hers.... don't. Not really. It's not hugely noticeable. But her back legs seem to stay straight. And the 'swaying' of her hips seems to be her shifting her legs back and forth in order to walk forward, instead of bending her legs.
The only thing I can think of, as far as history, was that last year she had a bad reaction to a rabies/distemper shot the vet gave her. (I am well aware NOW how dangerous combining those vaccines are, and just how dangerous they are to begin with. I didnt go back there.). Anyway, the day after the vaccine, she walked EXTREMELY stiff. Didnt bend her back legs at all and was hiding, etc. Took her to the vet and all of that and they gave her stereoids and it got better.
But now I'm starting to worry about her. Is it normal for her to walk like this? And I dont know what to do. I REALLY want to take her to the vet, but I'm afraid too. Basically because we would have to go to a new vet, and she is way past due on the rabies vaccine. She is strictly indoors, and had such a bad reaction to it last time, i REALLY dont want to risk another possible emergency by forcing her to get it. In my state, pets cannot be exempt from the shot due to health, poor reactions, or disease.
She seems normally ok otherwise. eats well, healthy fur coat, plays, isn't lethargic. The stiffness is very subtle (I have been slightly noticing it, but at the same time was never really sure it was stiff or just my imagination. That subtle). I'm thinking it is FROM the rabies shot, which is why I am hesitant to take her to a vet who will force her to get it because she's a new patient and I dont have proof she had it recently.
So, my question is, what could be causing the stiff legs? Is it something that might be very serious, at her young age, that I should take her to the vet asap and risk further injury to her if they wont see her without the shot? Or is it relatively normal for some cats to walk like that?
Note: she has been walking like this for a long time. But I only 'really' noticed it after the rabies shot, so i dont know if she was walking like this before or not. Also, just fyi, if she seemed in any pain at all, or this was sudden, i WOULD take her to the vet immediately. But I dont know if this could be normal or not?
7 AnswersCats9 years agoDont know what to do about Hair. Hair is fine and dry. But too oily to not wash every day. Help me!?
Ok, so basically this is my situation. I have very fine soft hair. For years I never blew dry it or used products or colored it, which made it healthy (minus split ends from brushing). In fact, at the hair salon they always were impressed with how soft it was. I always had it in a pony tail, so never used harmful products or heat to style it. I have always washed my hair with shampoo every night (before bed and let it air dry), because if I dont it literally gets very oily and gross.
Now the new problem: Well, I got a new job and it was time to outgrow that ponytail. I cut my hair short and have to style it for work. So... in the morning I have to shower (I dont use shampoo, only at night). And then I have to blow dry and then use a flat iron to style my hair. My hair will NOT style without me wetting it completely and then using heat to style it. So I can't skip that, or it will look like a huge mess (its very fine and 'dents' easily during sleep against the pillow or.. anything that holds it up... like a ponytail).
But by the time the day is over, my hair is oily again... and I have problems with acne and oily skin as it is. I can't go to bed with oily hair to rub all over my pillow and face. So I have to shower again (using shampoo). But I let it air dry. ALSO, I only use a wide toothed comb for my hair, because brushes tend to grab and break hair. (exception is boar bristle brush, see below).
So... now my hair is obivously dry and starting to look damaged. I dont know what to do. I can't skip the two showers a day. If I skip at night, I get too oily and break out. If I skip in the morning, I literally can't go to work because my hair is a disaster.
I tried going without shampoo (to try to get my hair to rebalance) for two days but I had to wash it because I cant go to work with greasy hair. I leave my light conditioner (Suave naturals) in my hair during the shower for 3 minutes. Once a week I 'hair mask' it with the conditioner, leaving it on my hair for 10-15minutes (just normal conditioner). I also bought a boar bristle brush, but can only brush with it at night, an hour or two before my shower because it coats my hair in oil and looks very nasty. And because of how oily my hair gets when I brush it, I only brush it with the boar bristle brush once a week. (I am going to start increasing that amount to see what happens.)
Basically, I dont know what to do. I bought thermal spray to try to protect my hair against the heat, but am afraid it will make my hair look weighed down or greasy (Its Suaves). I need serious advice, becuae I know it iwll just keep getting worse.
I heard about dry shampoos... but is that 'really' any different than shampooing with water? They both do the same thing, remove excess oil. And with my hair as fine as it is, I'm afraid to spend the money to try it.
Also, is it the 'water rinsing' or the shampooing that 'really' takes the oils out? Because I was thinking maybe I could just rinse my hair twice a day really well, and use shampoo every other day. Or wont that matter? Is the water itself stripping my hair of its natural oils too?
Any advice would be helpful. I HATE being oily, and yet I have oily skin and hair. I am very natural so I use as natural things as possible. I am considreing replacing my normaly shampoo, for instance, with a mix of water, baking soda, and vinegar (homemade things). Or wont that matter?
Sorry for the long post. This is a huge problem for me, and I have done a lot of research online. But all the suggestions are unrealistic for me. I can't not wash my hair for a week. I cant do it just every other day either. I need to work. I can't weigh it down with like 3 products either cuz of how fine it is. Help help!
3 AnswersHair9 years agoNew glasses, but the pressure on my nose bothers me! Do I need thinner lenses?
I just got new glasses (from Walmart) and I'm having a huge problem with them. The pressure from the nosepads is driving my crazy. It's not that it 'hurts' but the pressure realllllly bothers me to the point i'm fiddling with them constantly.
I had the nosepads readjusted twice, but nothing seems to help. If I widen them, the glasses continue to slip down my nose during the day(making my pupils near the top rim of the glasses), making it very annoying to fix and fix and fix. But if I put the nose pads closer together, to try to keep them up so my pupils are in the center of the glasses (like I think they are suppose to be), the pressure drives me nuts. I guess this has something to do maybe with my sinuses too? Again, its not that they 'hurt' but the pressure is driving me mad!!
I'm not sure what to do about the problem. Does anyone have any idea? I was thinking the lenses were too heavy, but... I got a pair of some of the expensive ones, that I think were suppose to be thin. Not the thinnest, but thinner than normal glasses. Maybe it needs to be thinner? But... I dont think I can do that. Walk into Walmart and ask to exchange my lenses for the more expensive ones and pay the difference?
Any advice would be soo helpful!
Keep in mind I wear my glasses at ALLLL times, so this is a really big issue.
1 AnswerOptical1 decade agoWorried about cat's weight and how much to feed her.?
My cat Rini was the runt of the litter and always small. She weighs about 6lbs right now and about a year ago she weighted around 8 or so... but she was a bit heavy then. Or she seemed like it.
Heres my problem. I see the diagrams about how cats should look when you stand over them, how their body should have an inward curve, and how their stomachs should be tucked up. She has a belly on her... which confuses me. sometimes i think she's getting fat, but when I do the feel test, and run my fingers on her ribs i can feel them fine. And her spine i can feel really well. So... according to the arial view she's not underweight, but when i feel her spine, i think she might be.
I feed her wet food only, twice a day. about one ounce of food each time. EVO 95% chicken and turkey meat. I worry i'm feeding her too little. But I dont wwant her to be overweight since so many problems come with it. She's a small cat... so just a little bit of food difference will result in a lot of weight gained or lost, which is why i want to be careful.
I just need some advice. What do I trust to tell me she is a good weight? The way her spine sticks out, but her ribs dont? Or her sorta big belly(compared to the rest of her... but she IS spayed).
Info: She turns two in April. she doesnt have a huge activity level. she is under stress cuz she lives with 3 male cats right now. her bigger brother and two kittens who are turning one this april.
I dont worry about her brother, WIlber, because even though he has an inward curve, he has padding at the ribs and spine doesnt stick out.
3 AnswersCats1 decade agoHow long until Profender works? And can I use pyrantel pamoate soon?
I'm looking for a 'time estimate'. I put Profender on my cats over 48 hours ago. So far, I haven't seen anything in their fecal matter that shows worms. I assumed that once the worms died, they are carried out through the poop? Does anyone know when I should start seeing something?
Also, I dont know which cats have worms, but a few days ago (before I went out and got it from the vet) I found a small hairball with a worm or two (roundworms) in it. So I know one of them at least has worms.
Also, I am planning on using pyrantel pamoate suspension on them to make sure I got the worms. (I personally really didnt like Profender and wont be using it again. I'd rather just a liquid form of dewormer than a topical one. It made me one cats fur very white... powdery and I cant get it off).
I was wondering how long I should wait until I use this new medicine on the cats. I was going to wait two weeks at least, but was wondering if I should wait a full month just to be safe.
