  • Yahoo IM IQ test virus..can you get it using the web-based messenger?

I feel totally humbled- I am SO careful about clicking on things people send me- some of my young friends in particular send me so many "dumb" things (like hey I got smiley central- try it!) and the like.... anyway, This morning, I get the "Hi I just took this IQ test and can you beat my score?" message.

The kid DOES always send me goofy things- I generally don't look at most of them and am always warning him to not fall for things.. BUT I DID this time! So I clicked on the link and it went to that take the IQ test page. I noticed that it wants a cell phone number and it would charge you monthly, etc.... so I didn't do anything else there.

So...........I heard that merely clicking on the link gives you the virus??????? I do not use the Yahoo messenger anymore other than the web-based one. My anti-virus didn't say a thing...

What do you think? Does this virus get you merely by clicking the link? Is the Web-based chat immune to this one?

Gosh I'm SO careful I can't believe I clicked on this. Goes to show you I guess.

  • Catholics, how you get a plenary indulgence? and what is it?

Do you still do things to gain indulgences?

  • For the Catholics here- can people pray to Dr. Martin Luther King?

Catholics, what would you think if people began to have little statues and medals made of Dr. Marin Luther King, and knelt down before them, and prayed to him, for guidance, in helping them in the struggle for equality of all us humans>

After all, M.L. King was a "saint" in the Biblical definition of one- a true believer in Christ. And he was a martyr for the cause, also. That makes him really "holy".... like so many past martyrs that the RCC reveres!

  • PROOF that Christianity is TRUE! A miracle?

God put a cross inside a potato!! What a miracle! Doesn't this prove that the Bible is true???

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/12/09/holy_spud/

Yes, I am being extremely sarcastic, because it never ceases to amaze me that the Muslims and the Catholics always are seeing miraculous images in everything!

It is very silly, in my opinion.

Okay I keep clicking the button on that box that pops up each time I post an answer- "do not ask me this again" yet it keeps appearing.. What the heck is up with that and how do I stop it? I even went to "manage who sees my updates" and saved the info but it won't stop.

Okay, I can view questions but there the box to answer is not there- apparently others still have it because most questions have answers. What is going on? Yahoo glitch or something hinky with MY system?

I'm putting it here because yes, this section is the busiest- and someone here may have a clue for me. Thanks

WHY are we not all rising up and protesting the mercury containing CFL light bulbs being foisted upon us??? Everyday you hear things about how bad our mercury poisoning is getting!!! And to say well the bulbs ought to be recycled is being infantile- HOW many people do YOU know who actually do recycle??? a handful.

  • Why did the Popes say and do this stuff?

bullet 1205: Pope Innocent III wrote to the archbishops of Sens and Paris that "the Jews, by their own guilt, are consigned to perpetual servitude because they crucified the Lord...As slaves rejected by God, in whose death they wickedly conspire, they shall by the effect of this very action, recognize themselves as the slaves of those whom Christ's death set free..."

bullet 1215: The Fourth Lateran Council approved canon laws requiring that "Jews and Muslims shall wear a special dress." They also had to wear a badge in the form of a ring. This was to enable them to be easily distinguished from Christians. This practice later spread to other countries.

bullet 1227: The Synod of Narbonne required Jews to wear an oval badge. This requirement was reinstalled during the 1930's by Hitler, who changed the oval badge to a Star of David.

bullet 1229: The Spanish inquisition starts. Later, in 1252, Pope Innocent IV authorizes the use of torture by the Inquisitors.

bullet 1236: Pope Gregory ordered that church leaders in England, France, Portugal and Spain confiscate Jewish books on the first Saturday of Lent. 1

bullet 1259: A "synod of the archdiocese in Mainz ordered Jews to wear yellow badges." 1

bullet 1261: Duke Henry III of Brabant, Belgium, stated in his will that "Jews...must be expelled from Brabant and totally annihilated so that not a single one remains, except those who are willing to trade, like all other tradesmen, without money-lending and usury." 2

bullet 1267: The Synod of Vienna ordered Jews to wear horned hats. Thomas Aquinas said that Jews should live in perpetual servitude.

Maybe Marty can clear this up? This was "Godly"????

    13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade ago
  • Does Marty think this was truely God's work?

I'd love to know if our dear poster here, Marty- thinks this "was of God" and a good thing?

The Waldensians, or Vaudois, followers of Peter Waldo of Lyon provided the next major target. They gave their money to the poor and preached the Christian gospel. Waldo attracted the hatred of the clergy when he commissioned a translation of the bible into occitan, the language of what is now southern France. The heresies of the Waldensians were numerous. Having read the bible for themselves they denied the temporal authority of priests and objected to papal corruption. They rejected numerous accretions, including the Mass, prayers for the dead, indulgences, confessions, penances, church music, the reciting of prayers in Latin, the adoration of saints, the adoration of the sacrament, killing, and the swearing of oaths. They also allowed women to preach. They were excommunicated as heretics in 1184 at the Council of Verona, and persecuted with zeal for centuries. 150 were burned at Grenoble in a single day in 1393. Survivors fled to remote valleys in the Alps. Pope Innocent VIII organised a crusade against them in an unsuccessful attempt to extirpate them. They were still being persecuted centuries later. In Piedmont in the middle of the seventeenth century further attempts were made to extirpate them. Anyone in Villaro who declined to go to a Roman Catholic mass was liable to be crucified upside down, but there was some variation in the manner of killing in other towns. Some were maimed and left to die of starvation, some had strips of flesh cut off their bodies until they bled to death, some were stoned, some impaled alive upon stakes or hooks. Some were dragged along the ground until there flesh was scraped away. One at least was literally minced. Daniel Rambaut had his toes and fingers cut off in sections: one joint being amputated each day in an attempt to make him recant and accept the Roman faith. Some had their mouths stuffed with gun-powder which was then ignited. Paolo Garnier of Roras was castrated, then skinned alive. Children were killed in various ways before the eyes of their parents. Those few who escaped to the mountains were mostly killed by exposure, starvation or disease .

Marty, do you really think your chosen church is oh so Holy and oh so perfect??

  • WHY can't I keep using old versions of Yahoo IM?

It's maddening. I am still using a very old, homemade computer- with Windows ME in it. It's a good computer- I've done my "homework" and this computer just screams along. I have no desire to "upgrade" to XP just yet- XP is more full of holes than this OS is!

So now I'm being informed by Yahoo IM that in August, my version of it won't work anymore.

This just isn't right somehow. I get the feeling that Yahoo just wants everyone to have a version that can put ads in front of them???

I do NOT want any over-bloated IM or need it.
