  • Why do we continue to allow congrss to rule us?

Please stop letting congress define the issues and start defining them yourselves. If you want to reduce the size of gov. then start repealng 50 years of hippie legislation that are destroying this country and our lifestyles. Close the EPA, CDC, DOEnergy, DOEduc., DHS, IRS, BIA, ETC., ETC. ETC. Then we'll talk about a reasonable flat tax, AFTER the trash has been taken out.

  • Where can I find robotics software for pseudo autonomous vehicle?

Hello. My son has developed an interest in robotics. We have decided to try to modify a riding lawnmower into a pseudo autonomous vehicle. By this I mean one that drives based on a modeled terrain vs. one like the various darpa projects. I can handle the mechanics, but don't know where to begin to find the software for this type of project. Any suggestions?

  • Why are my tomatoes so sweet?

I am Container gardening. I planted some kind of hybrid (Big Boy, Better Boy, something like that) and Roma's (Store bough tomatoes. Squeezed some seeds into the dirt. They grew fine.) I prefer my tomatoes to be a little tangy. They are not getting very big at all. The hybrids get about the 3" in diameter and the roma's about the same.

Sandy Soil (unripened river bottom I think. They'vee been growing there for at least 4 months though)

Miracle Grow weekly (ish. 9 day average. When I get the time).

Osmacote (?) at planting and again 2 weeks ago.

Water daily time permitting (generally good about it accept when it was still cool. Tried to make them hungry so they would flower)

Some of the tomatoes get ripe when they look like cherrytomatoe size so I know the container is to small.

Really good tomatoes. They're just to sweet for me. Does picking earlier help? How do you know when an under size tomato is green enough to pick? The bottom goes nearly from white(ish) to pink (ish)

    Thanks in advance.

  • Is non chlorine bleach safe?

Is non chlorine bleach septic tank safe. I know the newer non chlorine bleaches are basically hydrogen peroxide. Is introducing all this oxygen harmful to the anarobic bacteria in the tank system.

  • Please direct me to a formula for compounding interes?

I need to understand interest that is compounded daily, weekly, and monthly.

I recall that interest charged on invoices is expressed as an annual rate and divided by the total months in a year (typical 2% net 30). I am not seeing this in the calculations I am researching and need to know if this is the same principal.

    Can anyone please help?

  • does rock naturally exist on hawaii?

I think Lava, cold lava, would be considered rock because it is hard. Is there a natural rock that exists on the islands of hawaii. Granite, Limestone, etc. Actually Limestone is compressed sand and minerals? Is that correct. I guess it depends on how you define rock or stone?

    Any help?

  • To brine or not to brine?

I am making some home made potato chips. I know that many fast foods that used to or still make fresh French Fries (Not factory made. Made locally.) placed their chips into a brine for 1 to 24 hours. Does this transfer to potato chips as well. I scanned an industry study that suggests brining but it related to mass producing flavors.

    Any suggestions?

  • Should I use 8-2 w/ground or 10/2 w/ground?

    Hello;

Thanks in advance for all that provide answers. I am mighty tweaked at what I found today. No wonder my electrical bill jumped $25 per month over the last 3 years.

We are on well water. We pump our own. The pump sits at 360' and has single solid core 10-3 hooked to a 240v 1 - 1.5 hp motor. I installed a sub panel in the well house and low and behold the pump is hooked up at the pressure gauge with 12-2 w/ground at a 150' run (direct buried. At least they used the correct sheathing).

Obviously this needs to be corrected. I will be installing either 8-2 or 10-2 (w/ground) direct bury to the sub panel.

What would you use? Can you recommend some online calculators that would show the amperage and ohm decrease? I figure changing the gauge should drop my electrical bill back down to a reasonable size.

My local big box can give me a 250' roll for $130 ($60 cheaper than the per foot price for 150'). But the 8-2 w/ground is $1.67 per foot. That's nearly $275 after tax. I am trying to see if the savings would justify the expense. I have a 50 (60 maybe) amp sub panel, but can't concieve of ever using that kind of amperage.

FYI the sub is run through a two pole 20/20 amp breaker and then I feed the well pump at the sub through the same size breaker.

    Thanks again for your answers.

Have a Blessed Day and Happy New Years to all.

  • Herb Garden general question?

    Hello;

I am planting an herb garden for my family. It measures 12'x12'. We are located in SC, USA. This map shows our hardiness zone, but I am not sure what this means as some maps show us as low as 5 and others use an 8 minimum. This one has temperatures.

    http://www.clemson.edu/hort/images/schrdmap.jpg

I am modeling the garden so that I can get an idea of root ball size and plant height so that this will be pleasing to look at as well as beneficial. We will be planting mostly edibles, though we may mix in some aromatics. This is a raised bed. Mints will be grown elsewhere, (preferably 3 or 4 blocks away. It shouldn't take a day or two to reach our yard :) ).

I need a website that will give me information on root ball size and height. This will give me some accurate modeling data to look at. If you happen to know of any AutoCAD modeled plants, that would be totally awesome.

She wants Rosemary, Thyme, Sage, Basil, Cilantro, Lemon Grass (maybe balm if it is not hardy), Marjoram, Parsley, Dill and (Ugh) Mint.

Mainly, I am looking for the rootball volume and potential plant height.

By the way, I am planting in clay/sand. about 85% sand by volume. 18" + deep with Red clay below. I am amending the soil with 5 year old fines from an old mulch pile. I will be putting 1 wheel barrow full (1/2 to 3/4 yard?) per 3'x3' area and turning to about 12" by shovel. My tiller broke.

There is 0 nutrient value in this clay/sand. It is more of a construction soil. Packs like a rock with just a small amount of water. That's why I am ammending it. Also placing some old oak leaves that were on top of the mulch pile.

Any answers and assistance will be greatly appreciated. Also any winter herbs that may be useful would be great. I would like this to be a winter garden. I can add other areas for perennials(?).

    Thank you and God Bless.

    Have a Great Day.

  • What is a good brand of scooter/moped?

I am going to buy a scooter/moped. I want one that is 50cc's or less. In SC you don't pay taxes on them under this size.

I know Honda, Yamaha and Vespa (Italian?) sell them. Can anyone recommend a good one. I went to a local that has a Chinese brand, but I don't think I will be buying it.

First its Chinese, and Second it has a limited 6 month warranty. I know Honda beets that hands down. And labor is not included.

I thought about a motorcycle, but then you have the taxes and license and all that junk. Besides, I road an RD 350 for 5 years and owned a couple of others. I am in no hurry now. It's just to get back and forth to work.

2 gallons of gas for a weeks travel is very appealing to me at the moment.

Any suggestions, warnings, recommendations on Brands and your experience is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you
