  • Learning the Kanji, should I learn kanji to meaning or vice versa?

I'm learning Japanese and I've started working my way through the Kanji, and I want to know whether to learn what each kanji symbol means and represents, or if I should learn it the other way around so I know what symbol to write if I see a word? If that makes sense... I only ask because each kanji symbol can mean lots of different things, especially when put with other kanji symbols as well, so I don't know in what order I should do everything.

Any other advice or suggestions from people with experience of learning the kanji is greatly appreciated!

  • French speakers please help?

What is the difference between these two sentences:

Amélie se regarde dans le miroir.

    Amélie regarde dans le miroir.

Google translate gives the same result, I was wondering what is the purpose of 'se'?

    Many thanks!

  • Should I get an iPod Touch or an iPad?

I'm soon to be getting a Google Nexus 4 to replace my iPhone (which I am selling, long story). I do not wish to be completely without an iDevice, so am looking on purchasing either an iPod touch or an iPad, however I am not sure which to get. Since I will be able to have music and certain apps while I'm out and about on my phone, the iPad seems better for just at home, however I'd be getting the 3rd gen iPad and it's quite a bit more expensive. I'm also unsure as to how extensive the googleplay app store is in comparison to what I'd get on an iPod touch when on the go.

Any thoughts or insights appreciated, many thanks!

  • Logitech K360 keyboard problem, please help?

The keyboard works fine as soon as a plug the receiver into my laptop, it installed the drivers itself then worked a charm. But when I plug it into my desktop PC, nothing. Nothing at all. After a lot of trying, troublingshooting and downloading some 'Unifying' software for the receiver, I get this:

So I'm out of ideas. Please help, someone?

  • In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey why can't the dwarves go in the the hole Smaug made?

In the film, they state that Erebor is completely sealed and that the only way in is through the hidden dwarf-door that Thorin now possesses the key to. However, can they not just get in through the massive gaping hole in the front door that Smaug made when he attacked? It is shown to still be there at the end of the film, and it is how the dwarves escaped from the attack 60 years prior.

Is this a plot hole? Or is there a reason they cannot gain entry that way? Any thoughts are appreciated!

  • Minimum specs to play Guild Wars 2 on decent settings?

What are the minimum specifications for a PC if I want to play Guild Wars 2? I don't mean the absolute minimum, but what would you recommend if I want the graphics and sorts on average settings and the gameplay to run nice and smooth? I don't have a huge budget but if you can suggest any PCs from pcworld or other UK store that would be brilliant.

  • Which DC graphic novels should I get?

I'd quite like to get a couple of graphic novels but there are so many out there I don't know which ones to pick. I want something quite recent that has artwork on the level of Green Lantern Brightest Day, or thereabouts, but I want a Superman or maybe Shazam one. Any suggestions? Even if they don't fit my description but you think they're worth mentioning, please feel free to suggest anything. Thanks!

  • Which PC is better for me?

I've narrowed it down to two, both are the same price, I'd like your professional opinions on which to get based on specs.

    First of all: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/lenovo-h330-desktop-...

    Processor Intel® Core™ i5-2320 (3.0 GHz, 6 MB cache memory)

Operating System Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit

    RAM 4 GB

    - DDR3

    - 1333 MHz

    - 8 GB maximum expandable memory

Graphics card Intel® HD Graphics 2000

    Hard drive 500 GB

    - 7200 rpm

    - SATA

    OR the second choice: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/lenovo-h420-desktop-...

Processor Intel® Pentium Dual Core G630 (2.70 GHz, 3MB cache memory)

Operating System Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit

    RAM 6GB

    - DDR3

    - 1333MHz

    Graphics card NVIDIA GT520

    Hard drive 500GB

    - 7200rpm

    - SATA

The big differences being that the first has i5 and the second has Pentium Dual Core, however the second has an Nvidia GT520 whereas the first only has an Intel HD2000.

I will be using this computer for everyday things such as surfing the web and holding and using documents and files, though I also enjoy the odd bit of gaming and do some music recording and editing too. Any advice would be great!

  • What sort of cufflinks should I get?

I need some for my sixth-form prom, I want something quite nerdy or geeky but cool. My initial idea was to go for some Superman 'S' ones or Green Lantern logos but if anyone here can give me a better idea I might go for that instead. All suggestions welcome, thanks :D

  • What should I get my girlfriend for Easter?

  • Find me some unusual clocks?

I'm fascinated by clocks and watches, and would like a few more of them around my bedroom. At the minute I just have my digital alarm clock on a cabinet and a large, victorian-esque clock on my wall (the sort you'd expect to see at a train station). My task for you is to find me an example or two of unusual, interesting clocks. Nothing too girly (I'm a guy) and nothing *too* expensive, though I'm willing to pay a bit more if it's worth it.

I'm looking for anything cool, funny, whacky, unusual or just pretty.

    Thanks!

  • What tests would a doctor run on an unconscious person if they didn't know what was wrong?

I'm writing a fictional film script for my A level coursework and in it one of the characters has been found unconscious, badly burned all over. What sort of tests could/would a doctor run to check the person's health? I want anything you can think of, even the obvious things like breathing and a beating heart. Any help is appreciated!

  • Cryptic clue suggestions for 'treasure trail'?

I need difficult clues or puzzles (of sorts) for a kind of treasure trail. When my sister was younger I hid a present for her somewhere in the house, and hid 10-12 clues too, the first leading to the second, the second to the third, and so on, until the last led her to the present. I want to do this again, but she's a bit older now (13), so the usual "Ring ring!" for telephone and "Woof woof! Zzzzz..." for the dog's bed are a bit easy. Can you help me by suggesting places to hide the clues and what I can write that will guide her to that place that isn't easy to figure out, but isn't stupidly easy either? Best answer goes to whoever provides the most/best suggestions.

    Thanks, and happy holidays!

  • Body parts trembling simply when moving?

I'm a 17 year-old guy, 5'11", quite a slim build, no history of significant health problems, but I think there's something wrong with me. Basically, whenever I put any sort of weight on or move nearly any part of my body, the limb (or seemingly the muscles inside it) tremble quite violently, at times worse than others (but all the time). If I'm in a push-up position, my arms will tremble, even when they are straight. If I'm doing a sit-up, my abs will shake very violently (this is where it is the worst, my whole torso vibrates). If I bend any one of my fingers about half-way down and hold it there, it will start wobbling in a similar fashion. Bending my legs into a squat position makes my thighs tremble.

This has been happening for a good few months now. At first I thought it was just because I didn't get enough exercise and my muscles were weak, but for my age and size I'm pretty strong, and when doing push-ups, sit-ups and other sorts of exercise I can comfortably go on for quite a while without getting too tired, provided I ignore the trembling muscles.

I've not told any of my friends or family about this and I don't want to, even though I fear I may have to if it doesn't stop.

Can anybody either suggest what it might be, suggest how I can fix it, or just give me any sort of advice or information at all? I've searched on the internet and found nothing that accurately describes this, and I'm getting kinda scared about it.

Thanks for any help you can give.

  • Do I wrap up my girlfriend's birthday present?

I've bought a necklace for her, and it comes in a posh, stylish box. Do I wrap up the box in wrapping paper, or just give the box to her? Also, when I give it to her, do I merely give her the box? Or do I show her the box, flip the box open, then help her try it on?

...As you can probably tell, I'm quite new to this.

    Thanks for any answers!

  • What tattoo should I get?

I'm a 17 year-old guy, and I want to get a tattoo. I'm gonna be fairly vague with the description of what I want, so throw as many ideas at me as you can. If you can provide pictures then that's even better.

It needs to be quite small, nothing than a couple of inches long or wide. Preferably black only, no colours. I want it to be on my wrist, hand or shoulder, depending on what it is.

That's pretty much it, so give as many suggestions as you like. 10 points to whoever has the best/most suggestions. Thanks!

  • What videogame is this?

I think it might be a street fighter game, the characters are all in 2D, anime style. I believe it's quite recent. A short clip can be seen in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYJ9QpV0lJQ&feature... at 4:36.

    All answers appreciated, thanks!

  • Something wrong with my muscles?

Basically, over the past few months (probably more than 6, thinking about it) my muscles have started to shake when under any sort of strain, they almost seem to vibrate. It happens all over my body - arms, legs, abdomen, and it's not even when I'm putting excessive strain on them. If I'm standing up straight, and bend my knees just slightly, my legs will begin to shake. I'm not unfit as far as I know, I do a lot of walking and every day for the past 5 months or so I've been doing push-ups and crunches to see if I can build up the muscle and stop the shaking - to no avail. If you have any idea of what this is or how I can fix it, I would be very thankful.

    Thanks for your time.
