2 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation1 decade agoExplain the feeling you get when you recognize a person is from your country or cultural group?
It's where you can tell instinctively by looking only that a random person you see is from your country, even if they look similar to people from other countries or culture. I'm Eritrean (2nd generation?) and we can see a person at the store or anywhere even if she isn't wearing traditional clothes we look at her and we can just tell that she's habesha, or sometimes more specifically Tigrinya. Its a little difficult sometimes to tell if the person is Ethiopian since we have similar cultures anyway and we're close to them, but sometimes we can tell (which is fine, we're both from the same area anyway). Either way, its a nice feeling and I like it when my mom or the adults can look at each other and they smile and instantly just jump into conversation or say 'selam' or something. At the airport I was going through security and my dad and me were wondering about something and there was a guy who looked habesha there, so my dad got his attention and he paused I think to figure out what to ask and just switched into Tigrinya-mode (I was like HAH! YES!) and the other guy just jumped in and answered his questions in the language and said he'd help me out and at the end they started socializing a little (like if he was Amharic/Ethiopian or not or something and he was and they made some jokes and the end ^^). I also like it when random people from our culture who we just met will lecture you about stuff like not forgetting our language and listening to our parents and stuff. Its a good feeling.
So, how is it we can tell that a person is from your country, thousands of miles from your homeland in a country as culturally diverse as America? Not saying we don't get mistaken or confused, there are some Black-Americans on TV that we saw and argued/wondered on whether or not the person was habesha, but can this sort of thing be explained with science or psychological/social things, or what? It isn't just appearance I think, since there are neighboring countries where the people look similar, like in other areas of the world.
9 AnswersOther - Cultures & Groups1 decade agoHow did Britain fix the adverse social effects of the Industrial Revolution?
Some things like child labor had already existed, etc. (reading Wiki)
Was the government pro-business?
I think in America it was with labor unions and strikes and protests, so I was wondering if the same went with Britain under the monarchy (maybe other countries too). Or maybe by then Parliament was more in control. x_x

2 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoWhat basic skills are needed to become an actor?
Not like....breathing or voice skills, although I guess that would be important....I looked up acting techniques, and I read about method acting on Wiki XD. It sounds sort of cool and fun, and it reminds me of how kids used to play pretend actually, except...more. Except when I learned about that game I ended up creating an organized monarchy/triumvirate in a different dimension with an infinite amount of sub-dimensions, mwhahahha...
I'm wondering about the skills you'd need to even consider joining that sort of career, whether or not you could develop those skills. Like imagination, emotional I.Q.,all that good stuff, except could you get more specific, maybe? And then get to the complicated stuff if you have time....
I have a vivid (and distracting) imagination, especially when I'm imagining things like conversations :P, but I don't think it's enough, or even always important for being an actor. So that's why I was curious. I don't think I want to be an actor anyways, but I like 'directing' when we make movies and it always ends up how I wanted and we enjoy the process too. But I'm curious anyways. ^^
Give me a list!? Describe to me the ideal character for someone who could become a good actor if they were trained or molded enough. Or describe some useful traits (oo, I'm betting being outgoing or confident in public places is #1, dammit XD) for an actor to possess.
Theater & Acting1 decade agoIs it legal for citizens in a town/city to form a militia?
Either formally or informally....I was just curious. If a bunch of gun-owners decided to get together and agreed that if something ever happened (however unlikely) then they would organize immediately and fight, and maybe even had meetings discussing strategy (lets also say that they are die-hard patriots and begin each meeting praising their country or whatever), if this happened and gained attention, would they be stopped or could this become a Supreme Court case?
(Really though, I was just wondering. I don't know if this is allowed.)
5 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoWhat is significant about the 17th Amendment?
I understand that it changed how we elect senators, but is the difference or is it supposed to be that Americans are better represented because we get to choose our senators? Or am I missing it?
What impact did it make....Or why is it important? What caused it exactly (misrepresentation??)?
Thanks. ^^
PLEAAASE ANSWER MY QUESTION, EVEN IF ITS HARD T_T. My points keep getting returned to me....(not for this one).
1 AnswerHomework Help1 decade agoWord Meaning disease you get by thinking about it?
Sort of...It has the root 'psycho' in it. I forgot what the word was and I'm trying to use it!
It's something like, you think a lot about a sickness, or think you have it, and as a result you start acting like you have it....Or, you think you're allergic to a food, so you get a headache when you eat it, but you really aren't allergic to it.
Do you know the word I'm talking about?
3 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoIs this a virus-site?
I got a link to download a free trial of WinRar at this site:
http://www.rarlabs.com/download.htm
But then I googled WinRar and got this site:
http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
The first one has rarlabS and the second one doesn't have an 's.'
Is this some sort of sneaky trick, or does it have two....I don't know, addresses or something? Should I download?
3 AnswersSecurity1 decade agoShould I apply for college?
I'm in high school, and I'm a senior.
I'm in a program where I go to a college campus and take classes for credits, but with other students (high school students in the same program, and college students). I've earned an Eng 101+102 credit, COM100, COM250, and PHI101 (enjoyed that class). I got all A's, but a C in Eng102 (even in high-school. o_o)
Anyways, I'm already registered in the college (apparantly), so I guess I go there straight after high school. I like the school too, the classes are small, and it's a community college, so it won't be as expensive.
I haven't applied for scholarships yet, but the Career Consultant lady at school told me that they'll pass them out in August since most schools start then.
(Not really considering University - it's too expensive and so far I don't see the logic in applying straight for University if I can't even afford it. If there is a reason, please explain it to me.)
Side Note: I have visited GCU, and I like the way it looks since the classes are small too (and it's a Christian school - that interested me, but it's not a big deal. The Community College has some cool study bibles too). But it's $8000 a semester. I would like...to live...so I don't think GCU is an option for me.
Anyways, should I still apply for other schools if I'm already sort of registered in a college that I like?
6 AnswersHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoI have a question abbout my gpa and etc.?
I have an unweighted 2.9459 GPA (so far - Senior now and one of my AP grades hasn't come in yet, but it's gonna be a C), weighted 3.0811, and 130/290 rank.
Is that OK/good? Not for Harvard or anything obviously, but...in general, how is that? What percentage of colleges or universities in the U.S. could I get accepted into possibly (estimate)?
4 AnswersHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoIs it normal for Mom cat to do this?
The kittens are like 3 weeks old but some keep trying to escape from their little shelter thing (Mom moved to the closet). The mom keeps putting them back in though (at least we caught a glimpse. My grandma says one of them keeps trying to escape and yesterday 2 tried also, along with the rebel kitten).
Is that normal? (I feel sort of bad for rebel kitten).
Also, there eyes should be open by now, right? :)

2 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoOMIGOSH CRAZY MOMMA CAT?
You need to see this first to understand http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=200905...
Ok, my mom opened the bedroom door and the cat, Mimi, attacked my mom's leg. My sister is in the car and she refuses to get out (she hasn't heard yet). The door is shut now. My mom got scratched and the blood shows through her pant leg (I thought it was dirt).
Please read the other question first (at least partly).
WE'RE ABOUT TO RUN OUT OF BANDAGES HERE PEOPLE!!!
What should we do? We can't get into the room. She was fine before. And my mom's clothes are in there. o_o
I'm worried we're going to have to get rid of her. She's usually a good cat. But she's gone a little cuckoo today.
WHAT'S GOING ON/WHAT DO WE DO??!!
1 AnswerCats1 decade agoPet Cat who just had babies keeps attacking my sister?
but only Today.
In the morning my sister went into the room where Mimi (cat) was to comb her hair (hers. not the cat's. pet cat+ her week old kittens under the bed. bedroom has a bathroom-ish in it). She ran out and attaked and my sister had scratches and they were bleeding for a while. Nothing serious, I think. We don't know why, my sister wasn't harrasing her.
Just now my sister went into the room to give her another bowl of cat food so she wouldn't have to leave the room and she shook the cat bowl a little and I guess the sound or somethin made the cat..freak out because she chased her around the house and scratched her pretty deep a lot and my sister kept sprayed her with the water bottle (-_-;. I'd just finished taking a shower and dressed so I was safe in the bathroom, but I was listening to her screaming and the cat...growling, I don't know), and the cat wouldn't quit so she smacked her and the cat ran into her closet and my sister tried to run into a room but the cat came out again...etc., until my sister managed to lock herself into the room.
-___-
Also, my sister's skin is sorta sensitive, so whenever she gets scratched they swell up pretty bad.
The very first time the cat attacked was because we were trying to move the babies into a warmer place so she got my sister while she was doing it. We were thinking maybe the cat is overly sensitive to my sister.
Or because it's summer, and we live in Arizona. But we have air conditioning.
Or because my sister was wearing red and a leg bracelet. We really have no idea.
The worst part is she was wearing shorts >< so her leg is a little..owch. I feel bad for her.
My mom was checking on the cat and talking to her this morning and she didn't get attacked.
What do you think it is?? Anybody?? Is the cat going crazy?? HAS SHE GONE RABID?! (eh o_o..) Is it the weather combined with her crazy hormones??!!?
Help please! It's freaking me out!!
(btw, my sister left the house. she got picked up by our uncle who lives near us, so she's going to stay there for a while with her cousins XD)
10 AnswersCats1 decade agoIs it fine to have both Civilization 4 and Sims 3 on the same PC?
Does Civ 4 take up a lot of space? Would it make the PC slower?
Civ 4 = 1.47 GB
Would it be better to just unistall it now for the Sims 3 to work better?

1 AnswerPC1 decade agoVERY NEW BABY KITTEN (LIKE A COUPLE OF MINITUES)?
Ok, are we allowed to move them towards the Mom? One of the babies is confused and won't stop meowing and is a little far away from the mom because it moved away towards my sister and cousin (maybe the kitten heard them and thought they were her mom) and the mom keeps ditching her kittens to go over to the wandering one and goes back out of concern. We left them alone now. The other kittens sort of get dropped off of the mom in the process :(
The baby kitten is really loud.
Should we go back? I'm not even sure if the Mom is done giving birth. There are four babies right now.
You think she's done?
