  • Troubleshooting Acer Aspire 3680 keyboard. What else could be wrong?

I have an Acer Aspire 3680-2682 laptop that is having keyboard issues with certain keys not working (E, H, Enter, etc). I have replaced the keyboard itself, reinstalled the operating system, etc. But those keys still don't work (not even in the bios or safe mode). It's sounds to me like it's a motherboard issue, any other suggestions or ideas short of replacing the motherboard? Thanks!

  • Problem getting furnace to fire light?

I'm only getting 23 volts on my gas valve and hear a click but it's not opening up. This is a new valve and the old one did the exact same thing. If I switch it to on position while powered the valve opens up but the fan won't kick on. (With the old valve I could switch it to on powered or un-powered and the main gas valve opened up). I'm wondering if the transformer is just not strong enough anymore (should be 24-28v I believe). I'm not used to working with gas trains this small.

At this point the thermostat, gas valve, blower motor and run capacitor, and thermocouple are all new. It's a 19 year old furnace, the blower and capacitor was an unrelated repair obviously.

  • What is the rate at which acrylic heats up?

This is a question for work, and it's way outside of my general scope. At what rate will acrylic absorb heat? The answer would be nice, but how you arrive at it would be even better. :)

Assuming that the acrylic is at 80 degrees and I shove it into a 350 degree oven how long would it take to get there. The sheet thickness is 8.5mm and it's Plexiglass MC.

  • Recommend a good auto surveillance system.?

My sister has had all her tires slashed at work 5 times in the last year and it's getting stupid. Her work won't put up cameras and the police (many of which are friends of hers) can't do anything about it. So what is a good system to catch this joker? She works midnights at a nursing home, so night vision a must. Cost at this point isn't, although cheaper would be better. 5 sets of tires isn't cheap. If it was happening more often I would be in a parked car with shotgun.

  • What SATA driver do I need for a DG33BUC motherboard?

I bought this as a replacement motherboard and now need to reinstall windows xp. If I try to load it up it says no drive found to install to basically, if I try to load up the AHCI drivers that I did find they all give me the blue screen of death. Not to mention there are 8-12 to choose from and they all seem to do the same thing. Any ideas? I'm about to part the thing out on ebay and buy a Dell or something.

  • What happens if you run a Variable Frequency drive at..?

What happens if you run a Variable Frequency drive at 20 hertz for extended periods if it is rated for 30-90 hertz?

It was designed for 6 FPM @ 60 hertz with a range of 3-9 FPM, but at 30 hertz it is running 4.2 FPM and 90 hertz it's running at 13.8 FPM.

  • Dish TV questions?

If you have whatever the latest DVR receiver is for Dish Network:

    1) How far in advance does the guide go?

    2) Is there a Season pass feature similar to Directv?

My Directv receiver is dying, Sat 2 is nearly dead. So I need to decide if I'm going to switch to Dish to get new hardware for free (with 2 year contract) or pony up $100 for a new receiver from Directv (with no contract).

  • Need help hooking up a DVD/VCR combo.?

Ok, now read carefully before you answer. I'm hooking this up for my aunt. She got a new DVD/VCR combo and the deal is that I can't find anything that converts coax to A/V composite. She doesn't have a cable box or satellite box, only a coax cable coming into her house. The DVD/VCR has A/V composite inputs and outputs. I'm using a RF modulator to get from the DVD/VCR to the TV (which only has coax input). Without a way to convert from coax to A/V composite she won't be able to record anything. So anyone seen an item online that does this? Thanks!

  • Can you use a PCI Expess video capture card in a regular PCI slot?

I haven't really kept up on computer hardware lately. I have plenty of open PCI slots, but this motherboard doesn't have a PCI express slot.

  • Recommend a good low cost monitor for my Xbox 360.?

What are you (or your friends) running, how much did it cost and from where, why do you recommend it (features, etc). My PC monitor is on the blitz and I need to replace it anyway, so something I could share between the two would be great (by switch or multiple inputs is fine either way). I don't need receiver capability. Thanks for your input!

I'm pretty tech savvy, but haven't kept up on the new HDTV standards and the like.

  • Problems following two step directions.?

My daughters teacher has told us she has problems following two step directions and that we need to work on them with her. Are there any good learning exercises to help her remember, other than the obvious of giving her directions. Sort sort of learning aids?

  • If you could live in a fantasy world (universe), what would it be and why?

It can be from any book, movie, play; (Oz, Matrix, Star Trek, etc.)

I'd have to go with the Forgotten Realms I think, swordplay and dragon slaying would be the life for me. Just curious what others think.
