common cold- what can make me feel better?
Having a really awful time with a cold I've picked up. I have some cold and flu tablets which have taken the edge off and i slept over 12 hrs last night which definitely helped but im still getting lots of symptoms-
Watery eyes (easing off now)
My whole face aches- particularly around nose- ive had sinusitis before but that hurt my eyes.there is an on and off throbbing pain close to ear.
I feel very weak- even walking to toilet is tiring.
My nose is congested/runny- mucus was dark green but now is clear, blowing my nose hurrs
My temp is 37.6c normal but my temp is usually around 36.5 all the time
Nausea
Acid reflux
Burning lips (think this is due to dryness from breathing out mouth
Painful cough- coughing up dark greeny yellow mucus
No appetite i couldn't bring myself to eat until 5.30pm today and even when i did i got full so quickly
I dont like soup or warm drinks so i cant do that. Im already drinking loads of water. Just wondered if anything else could help?
Ive got a 4hour shift at work tommorow. I work with kids so get colds all the time and my manager wouldn't tolerate calling in sick with a bad cold.
1 AnswerOther - Diseases6 years agoWhy is my cats eye swollen?
I cannot get him to vets today as its a Sunday and I don t drive but the vets nearby is open tommorow so I will be taking him tommorow will he be ok?
He was fine last night but went out overnight. He came back a couple hours ago and his eye is swollen like hes squinting. I took a closer look its a little watery and the upper eyelid is very swollen. I tried to open it but most of what you can see is his inner eyelid covering it.
He does have a couple of scratches a little above it with fur missing (he had been in a fight a week or two ago so I dont think its linked)
Could he just have been in a fight (we live in an area where there are loads of outdoor cats) or could it be an illness?
Ive cleaned it out with cooled boiled water incase the wateryness was clear discharge. Is there anything I can do until tommorow?
Will he be OK to wait until tommorow morning to see vet?
1 AnswerCats6 years agoWhy do people enjoy smoking weed?
I dont understand ive had it before a few times and all it does is make me want to sleep. Ive tried different types and the effect is pretty much consistent.
I dont understand how people enjoy it and get stoned and just get on with life like walk around, play games and stuff.
2 AnswersOther - Health & Beauty6 years agoHelp! Computer wouldnt start and now the start menu is grey!?
I dont know much about computers so if theres an explanation please simplify it for me.
Ive got quite an old laptop (i got it around 5 years ago).
Its running on Windows Vista Home Basic.
Earlier this morning I went to turn it on and it stayed on the loading screen, an hour later I went to go use it and it was still on the loading bit. I turned it off manually then it gave me the option to try and repair it. Did all that, no luck.
After work I loaded it up in safe mode which worked, transferred any files I needed onto a memory stick and deleted any files I had recently downloaded. I then turned it off.
My boyfriend reccomended unplugging all usbs (the only ones I had in were a mouse and keyboard- i dont like using a laptop mouse and our keyboard broke ages ago so we removed it and use usb one). So i did that and its loaded up fine and is working fine but the start bar is all grey like the old windows.
So far things have been working but I dont understand why its grey.
I did the thing where you click on the start bar and try to change the style but neither of them change the way it looks.
Could it be virus or something or should I download something to help clear up the computer?
I know its really old, I just havent been able to afford a new one and I need it working as Im currently doing an NVQ so I use it to do my work on.
Any advice appreciated!
1 AnswerOther - Computers7 years agoHow to keep a cats teeth healthy?
A while back my cat got a UTI. I got him treated at the vets. While we were at the vets she said he was really healthy. I said i was feeding him wet food and a bowl of dry food is left out for him during the day. She said dry food is good for their teeth.
I cut out dry food while he got over his UTI. When he was better I reintroduced a small amount of dry food and once again he got a UTI. I'm not going to reintroduce dry food because I don't want him to have to experience that pain again!
I was just wondering is there any way that I can help to keep his teeth healthy if he isnt having dry food? Or is there a certain dry food that is made for cats who get UTIs so he wouldn't get one?
2 AnswersCats7 years agoHalloween activities for 3 year olds?
Im babysitting my friends 2 kids (3 year old twins) and i have my own 3 year old at mine this evening.
Im not going to take them trick or treating because the area I live in pretty much nobody opens their door anyway.
I wanted to have a little halloween themed evening to keep them occupied.
I have some cake/cookie stuff we can decorate but what else can I do. Any ideas?

2 AnswersEthnic Cuisine7 years agoWhich birth control doesn't affect libido?
My sex drive has been really low lately, I mean I still do it but I don't want it. Sometimes my boyfriend will start touching me and I'll think oh for god sake really I just wanna sleep. I don't even feel horny hardly ever so its not just him. It never used to be like that. I'd want it every day. But its been the way it is now for a while now and I just couldnt work it out and Ive realised its been on slow decline since I went on the pill. I did a little reading up and it seems that this does affect a lot of women because of the hormone in it.
I have heard the implant doesn't affect libido but as we are considering ttc in 6months or so I wanted something not so long term.
We don't really like condoms and of course there is the risk of them splitting.
The mini pill didnt work for me, i had periods lasting 3 weeks then less than a week off and id come on again so that isn't an option either.
I'm wondering what else there is which wouldn't lower my sex drive?

1 AnswerInfectious Diseases7 years agoCat- infected paw?
A couple of days ago i was stroking my cat and he rolled on his back and i noticed black stuff on his paw which i thought was mud/dirt caked on his paw where hed gone outside. Not much later he was licking his paw and he got whatever the black stuff was off and i noticed he had a small wound like a tiny hole.I also suddenly noticed this paw pad (its the bottom of the paw- the toe pads) was bigger than it should be.
I will be taking him to the vet- I get money in 3 days i have called the vet to check how much it will be so I know I cannot afford it right now. They wont see him until I can give money upfront. There are no vets I can get to who will give cheaper treatment either.
Im pretty sure its an infection (swollen and has foul smelling discharge when pressure it applied)- i have been treating it in the meantime by periodically sitting with him, squeezing any pus out and cleaning this with salt water. Once no pus comes out i apply diluted teatree oil.
He isnt showing pain (I know cats dont tend to) apart from when i squeeze his toe to clean it. He is walking on it fine and still playing etc.
I just want to check that it is ok to be cleaning this in the meantime before I can take him to the vet or if i should just totally leave it alone?
3 AnswersCats7 years agoBest thing for itchy eyes (hayfever)?
My hayfever seems to worsen every year and this year its started a month or so early.
I can cope with the sneezing, runny nose, itchy nostrils etc but I'm finding it hard to deal with the itchy eyes. I rubbed my eyes so much thing morning they went all bloodshoot. It also means I either can't wear eye makeup or I look like a panda!
I know that rubbing them can make it worse but I literally cant stop myself.
I've only tried clarityn tablets so far which have taken the edge off slightly but not done much.
I haven't tried eye drops yet because I wear contact lenses (continuous wear) and there are not many drops Ive found that you can use with lenses.
Can anyway reccomend anything tablets or otherwise (in the UK please) that have helped combat this as its getting unbearable. Thankyou!
1 AnswerAllergies7 years agohow to handle a uti until i see dr?
Hey i have a uti, i used to get them all the time years ago (every few months) but then i learnt how to prevent them and how to note the warning signs i was getting one. I havent had one for about a year and a half.
Anyway i cant see a doctor (they are not open on weekends) until tommorow. I cant flush it with water as ive had it since friday night so if it was going to go it would of alread with the amount im drinking. I cant remember how i used to handle the pain before i got treatment. What can i do other than drink crap loads of water (ive drank litres of the stuff but not a huge help to be honest).
Do any painkillers take the edge of the constant burn/need to go feeling?
I heard something about baking soda can this help?
1 AnswerPain & Pain Management7 years agoHow much wet food should a 4kg cat have?
After a few utis i have cut dry food out of my cats diet for the time being. We have also moved from cheaper cans to slightly pricier pouches. I used to just estimate how much my cat needed taking some tin and some dry. He'd graze but never eat it all infact our other younger cat (who will eat and eat) would try and pinch food from the unattended bowl.
Now we've switched to pouches and no dry im a bit unsure how much he needs. Ive been giving 3 meals of 100g pouches a day but each meal he eats it all up and meows for more. Do i need to give him more than this? He definitly lieks the food more but not sure if i should be offering more or if this is ok? He is adult, neutered, does go outside and is 4kg. Vet says he is ideal weight so id like to maintain his weight dont want to under or over feed!
3 AnswersCats7 years agoWhy do some cats constantly meow?
I have two male cats. The eldest only meows when he wants something: to go outside, to tell me hes hungry or as im walking past which means he wants a stroke.
My younger cat was very vocal the day we got him. I kept him in one room for a little while where he'd walk around meowing which I thought was as he was i a new place and perhaps was calling out for his mum or siblings. He is 7 or 8 months now and never shuts up. Sometimes I wont have a clue why hes meowing- hes been fed, the window is open to go out, he's very recently been played with or stroked he'll just walk around meowing. It seems to just get worse with age!
Why are some cats so noisy?!
6 AnswersCats7 years agoCat uti any home remedies?
My male cat had cystitis 2 weeks ago and a bacterial infection- i took him to the vets and got it treated- had a check up last weeek and the vet said everything seems fine.
The vet had said he wasnt the usual suspect as hes quite young and perfect weight. Hes male, 2 years and neutered. Hes also an outdoor cat.
Today i noticed he was using the litterbox- he never uses the litterbox unless he HAS to go, he prefers to go outside. When i noticed him in there a second time i was worried. Anyway i managed to slip a pot under him and although his urine isnt pink this time it is dark yellow and had a tiny speck of red in it.
Im on a low income as a single mother and the antibiotics and vet appointment 2 weeks ago took the last of my spare money (it was £70). I wont be able to afford any treatment for him for another week. I have nobody I could borrow from and no nearby PDSA. I cant even use payday loan or something similar as my credit isnt good.
He isn't straining like he was last time and isnt yet using anything other than his litterbox is there ANYTHING i can do to stop this UTI or is it a case of one hes got it hes got it?
There is no new stresses at home all i can think of that could possibly stress him out is the weather as theres been a lot of rain and strong winds here.
7 AnswersCats7 years agoDoes a uti make a cat aggresive?
Help on here advised as i suspected- my cat mostly likely had a uti. I was not able to get him to vets today as he ran out the door when my partner left for work and didnt come back (despite heavy rain) when he eventually did get back it was an hour after the vets closing time. His urine is now pink coloured but he is at least urinating (if only in small amounts).
We cannot get to emergency vets tonight as we have no car but will be ringing our local vets in the morning as soon as they open to get him booked in.
Anyway i have just collected a urine sample from him as spotted him in litter box and thought it might be best bet to get one. Once he jumped out the litter box he walked past our other cat and hissed at him.
Is this normal? This cat is younger than him, we introduced them when the other was a kitten (hes now 6 months) and hes always groomed him, played with him, cuddled up to him.
He isnt showing any agrresion to me he just wants to be stroked and lays on me purring. Im a bit worried to leave them in the room together overnight tonight...
I know im like a overly worried parent but this is the first time theres ever been anything wrong with him (hes only 2 years) and I really am worried sick :(
2 AnswersCats7 years agoDoes my cat have a uti?
Hi, I recently tried ringing the vets and was busy but will try again soon.
I have noticed recently a few things-
My cat has been using the litterbox more frequently- he normally doesnt use it at all he just goes outside, as a result we only have 1 litterbox (we have one cat who prefers to use it, my other cat never used it unless he HAS to as he does not like even a tiny bit of wee in there if he has to go)
He has been licking his genitals a lot- He is very OCD though and is always cleaning but when thinking about it i think it may be more frequently than usual.
I have caught him in the bath a few times. I have never seen him weeing in there but my boyfriend caught him weeing in there last night. This morning I went to use the shower (connected to out bath) and noticed what looked like a small yellow stain with a red stain in it (looked almost like string). It could of just been shower gel scum but what i think is more likely is that my boyfriend did not wash out the bath like i would of had i caught him weeing and that it was wee with blood in it.
The cat is out at the moment so its not like i can get him to the vet RIGHT NOW but i wondered if this sounds like a uti? I wasnt even aware cats could get them. I used to be a frequent sufferer myself and know theyre hell. I dont have much money but dont want him in pain.
What will they do at vets? Just prescribe something for symptoms or will they need to do tests?
Dreading going down there as have no car so have to walk a 10 min journey with the carrier and my 2 year old walking with me and the poor cat cries and meows terrified the whole way!
2 AnswersCats7 years agoIs this malware and best way to get rid of it?
So i was on a torrent site last night downloading some episodes of an old tv programme. I went to click on a link and it took me to a completly different site trying to get me to download some programme. I didnt and went back and tried to click the link again. After about 5 attempts it took me to the right page.
I figured something was wrong with the page but I used a different torrent site today and the same thing happened only even more times than before. I had to click the link about 20 times!
This has only happened on torrent sites, nothing else.
My boyfriend said it sounds like malware but i know nothing about computers or what malware is?
Is it malware and if it is how do i get rid of it? is there a free programme i can use that will remove it or will i need to buy one?
2 AnswersSecurity7 years agoTips to ease sinusitus PLEASE HELP!?
Hi, i have had sinusitus once earlier this year but it was nothing like this.
I have severe throbbing pain on the right upper quarter of my face- forehead, eyebrows, behind eyes, side of nose, cheeks and upper teeth. Green/yellow mucus coming from my nose and also experiencing nausea and vomitting. My eyelid is all pink and swollen but this may be from how much my eye has been watering and the odd cry when the pain just gets too much.
Ive experience it since around saturday but the severity has increased rapidly.
I have taken painkillers- ibruprofen/paracetomol/sudafed during the day but most of the time they make no difference. I have also tried to use nasal spray which at times has taken a slight edge off but not much.
The pain is so much i want to bang my head against a wall just to have a different kind of pain, spent most of christmas day in bed :(
I can't see a doctor for any prescription painkillers or antibiotics until friday as the surgeries are closed over xmas.
If anyone has any remedies please share i will literally try anything at this stage the pain is unreal and i have a high pain tolerance (jeez i had a baby with a couple of puffs of gas and air!)
Thanks in advance :) xox
2 AnswersPain & Pain Management7 years agoMicrosoft Word & Open office?
Any help appreciated as this is for my coursework!
Ive had Microsoft Word on my computer for ages but it wont let me use it anymore and asked for a product key. I cant afford to buy & cant afford a free trial of the new Word as I have Windows Vista so doesnt meet system requirements. I also cant afford to upgrade to Windows 7.
A lot of people have suggested Apache Open Office.
Here is my dilema though- my coursework is a series of workbooks that are saved in Word format. I need to edit them and fill them in then send them to my friend. She opens them using word and prints them off for me as I dont have a printer.
If i was to use OpenOffice could i open word documents and edit them then can they be reopened using Word?
If not is there ANY program that I could do this with? I dont have any workbooks due in until mid January but really would like to get them done and out the way before Christmas!
