Recently, I have bought a Syrian hamster as my pet. Her name is SHILOH. This is my first time ever having a hamster as pet. Years before, I used to have a few cats. I'm actually a cat lover. I love to observe cats behaviour in all aspects. Sadly, for some unpleasant reasons I'm now don't keep cats as pet anymore. Now, I'm trying to be a very good and responsible hamster-owner. In order to ensure the happiness, healthiness and friendliness of my SHILOH.. I'm sure to please any advices or tips or answers from other hamster-owner.. Thank You..

  • My female cat won't eat or even smell her food!!!?

On the day we brought her home after getting fixed, surprisingly, she ate a lil' bit. But the days after she just won't eat or even try to smell the food. I tried hard-solid food and half-solid food but both didn't get her attention. I saw her sip a lil' water. But not eating. She'd rather sleep on the bathroom floor whether it's dry or wet. Which I suppose is not good for her surgery-wound. But everytime I took her out, she goes back in. So I just let her be and I avoid using the bathroom so it'll always dry. She always wanted to be alone and seems uncomfortable when I pet her. I understand that she's in pain and is taking her own time to heal but the fact that she hasn't been eating any lil' tiny bit of food for almost 3 days now is something bothering. Is it normal for post-surgery cat to not eat? Pls share ur experiences with me. I'm kinda freaking out already. :(

  • So tell me about it...?

First of all, I will be moving next week. It is a 5-6 hours journey. I'm going to take public transport which is a bus trip. I'm taking my hamster along. So tell me about it.. What should I do? Should I put her in her cage since it is just a small cage.. and Of course I'll be taking off her running wheel.. So that she won't make any noises.. But is there any other possible noises that she would probably been making in her cage?

  • Hmm How Do I Know?

How do i know that my hammy teeth is way too long for her?

I've read and seen pic of overgrown teeth but i still cannot determine whether they're overgrown or not. Because my hammy seems normal. she's been eating well, drinking well, play very well but i somehow realized that she's been gnawing her cage bar less. is that a sign?

    do help me.

  • Which part of the hamsters body they would love to be stroked or pet?

Actually, my Syrian doesn't seem comfortable when I'm trying to stroke her. Even if it's a gentle stroke. We had overcome the trust issues. But she's just won't stay still in my hand. When I first bought her she is not a baby hamster. In fact, I don't know how old is she. Because the pet shop helper couldn't be more helpful. Some told me that the hamster wouldn't mind being stroked by owner if they're being kept right from the younger days. Is this true? I really envy for those who can sit together with their hamsters watching TV or something. Or their hamsters fallen asleep right on the lap. My Syrian just won't sit still plus won't feel comfortable when I'm stroking her. Is there any chance for me?

P/S : I only got her about 2 months ago.

  • Is it okay if I have only one hamster as my pet instead of having them in pairs?

I'm quite worried when some of my friends said to me that hamsters are born to be paired or to mate. I bought my Syrian hamster about 2 months ago. My friends had adviced me to get another hamster so that they could play and mate together. Somehow, I'm sure I wouldn't be able to handle 2 hamsters at once. Others told me that my recent hamster wasn't happy because 'she' don't have any friend to play with. Apart from that.. If I do bought another hamster, I believe that my owned Syrian hamster will be territorial and a brutal fight might occur between them. So.. Should I or shouldn't I bought another hamster?
