  • What college major involves urban folklore?

I was wondering what four year degree has a focus on urban mythology? I find myself fascinated by the whole what people do and did believe and the logic or lack thereof behind the myths.

But, on the flip side, I do not want that to be the ONLY thing covered. Simply put: a degree is useless if it can't get you a job.

  • Does not, or did not?

I am working on a story where an unidentified man (who died 30 years ago) is mentioned. When referring to the idea of his nonexistence do you say "does not exist" on the grounds that even though he is allegedly dead he is still a person, or is it "did not exist"?

  • What are some good how to books on child therapy?

I am doing (a lot) of research for a novel and I need to learn some techniques child therapists use in therapy. So far searches on Amazon and Half.com have been ho-hum. I was hoping to get some professional advice on research. I need to research CBT, TF-CBT, PTST, and a few others. But what I am looking for are books on how therapists put the ideas into practice in therapy. I am not limited to books, if there are DVDs or online articles I will dig deep into them. Any suggestions?

  • Can you convert a light socket in a candelabra ceiling fan to a regular socket?

I have two candelabra socket base ceiling fans and the issue of not being able to use regular light bulbs has become problematic.

All I want to do is swap out the sockets themselves to go from candelabra sockets to regular sockets. Can this be done, or is it a brand new light kit for the ceiling fans?

  • How can I fix YouTube lag?

For the last few months YouTube has been giving me unbearable lag to the point where I have given up on ever watching a YouTube vid in HD (or even 480) ever again. The problem seems to be YouTube and YouTube alone, and all the other vid sites I go to (collegehumor, break, Hulu, Netflix streaming) all load fine and fast including streaming HD. Is there some setting I need to change or something? I live in fear of getting the 90 second video adds because I know for a fact that they will never load.

  • What is the best way to start small in the painting business?

I am a former house painter with about 12-13 years experience painting middle/high end homes and commercial property and because of the economy I am trying to start a small business. The long story shortened: unemployment in my area is very bad (literaly twice as bad as the national average,) but it is a retirement community and the money is there for small business. The problem is that I want/need to get going, but I am very intimidated and I do not want to find myself overwhelmed or spending a lot of money on advertising and county fees to get started. Also, I am not 100% sure WHAT I need to get started. Example: I have heard that I need to be insured and bonded but I have no way of knowing the best action to take to get insured and bonded.

  • Sick of World of Warcraft, what other games are out there for the pc?

After the lackluster opening of MoP I have found myself quite bored with WoW and I am looking for a change. The problem is that I am so out of the loop game wise I really have no idea which direction to go. I used to like Halo for the PC, CSS, and Max Payne 2. I am looking for something that is fun, maybe shoot-em-uppish, with a nice online multiplayer mode that is not full of hackers.

  • How do you water-down chocolate, but get it to dry to a hard shell?

The Yahoo! community was very helpful when I needed help on the proper way to melt chocolate for dipping. Now my issue is that the chocolate is a bit too thick, and I want to water it down some so I can put a THIN layer of chocolate on cookies and such. I know someone suggested using butter or creme, but I am trying to make a chocolate shell and I am worried that adding butter or creme will make a chocolate glaze.

    Any help?

  • What is the proper way to melt chocolate for dipping?

I fail at melting chocolate. I am not bragging about this BELIEVE me, but it is true.

The last two times I made madeleine's I tried melting chocolate in a pot to dip the madeleine's, and I failed both times.

Attempt #1. I probably turned the heat up too high (medium), and although the chocolate did not burn, it did clump together. Okay, lesson learned.

Attempt #2. Learning from previous I used low heat and gradually melted the chocolate. This worked BETTER, but I was never able to get the chocolate to a smooth consistency to where I could dip the madeleine's into the chocolate. Eventually out of desperation I turned the heat up, and you can guess how that turned out.

So, am I using the wrong kind of chocolate to melt for dipping (attempt#1 was Nestle's semi-sweet and attempt #2 was Hershey's), or is there some jack specific temperature to melt chocolate at? I consider myself an above average cook, but I have failed so hard at this and I have no idea why.

  • Is my stir-fry still good?

Last night I made chicken stir-fry then I had to abandon the cooking area as it was needed by other people, so I left the area with the stir-fry cooling in a pot covered. This morning (7 hours later) I realized I forgot to put the stir-fry in the fridge. My question is simple, is it still good, and if so for how long?

  • Is Splenda good or bad for you?

The anti-arguements that I have read about artificial sweeteners is that they will tell your body to store fat just as regular sugar would, and Splenda is an artificial sweetener. Summer is here and I REALLY want some homemade lemonade without going morbidly obese, so I was wondering if Splenda is a good or bad thing, or is the trick moderation? Because on those hot summer days you can go through a pitcher a day without trying, and there are other items and dishes I would like to make where Splenda would be quite helpful, unless Splenda is just smoke and mirrors.

  • What is wrong with my 99 Ford Ranger?

I have a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT, and my speedometer, odometer, and turn signals have stopped working, and my AC/heater will only work if they are set to max. I checked all my dashboard fuses with a tester (including slots 10 and 11) and all my fuses are fine. Everything else seems to be working fine. What could be causing this?

  • What kind of education do you need for novel writing?

The long story short: I am trying to shake off my phobias so I can write a novel whose idea I came up with about ten years ago, but said phobias have really kept me from doing anything positive in the way of working on the novel itself aside from working on the story in my head. I have recently purchased some books on the subject, but I am starting to wonder if that is really enough. Are there some classes I should take? Are there any I can take online?
