  • What can "Mila" be a nickname for?

We love the name Mila for a girl, but we feel it might be more of a nickname than a full name. Our daughter is named Eliana, but we often call her Ellie...I would like Mila to have a longer, more formal name, as well. Unfortunately, all I can think of is Amelia or Camila. Do you know of any other names for which Mila could be a nickname? Or is Mila okay all by itself? Feel free to make middle name suggestions, too! Thanks!

  • Need Baby Name Ideas...Help!?

We're expecting our second baby in December! I am STUMPED for baby names. We have no idea if we're having a boy or girl yet, so I would like ideas for both. Our daughter's name is Eliana Catherine, so I would like to avoid "E" names...but I would like the names to sound nice together. Here are a few that hubby or I like (but we can't agree on any of them):

    Girls:

    Mila

    Josephine

    Malia

    Audrina

    Charlotte

    Amelia

Boys (middle name will likely be Jeffrey or Jefferson):

    Lincoln

    Logan

    Miles

    Jacoby

    Kian

I need your ideas! Help! =)

  • Hey, moms! Does it sound like labor is close?

I know nobody can tell me for sure if I'm in labor, but I'm just looking for some info from women who have "been there, done that". I'm due 3/23, but my midwife says it could be "anytime". Here's what's going on (apologies for TMI):

    * Baby has dropped (a LOT)

    * Frequent diarrhea for the last 5 days

    * Increased discharge, but no apparent "plug"

    * Tiny bit of light brown spotting

    * Constant back pain

    * Menstrual-type cramping and tons of Braxton-Hicks

    * I woke up today on a nesting rampage...I mean, like CRAZY.

So, what do you think? Does it sound like I'm close, or just wishful thinking? :)

  • What would you do if you were me (OB question)?

I am 34 weeks pregnant with my first and I have been super-happy with my OB so far. However, there are 2 other OBs in the same office who could potentially deliver my baby (haven't seen either of them personally), and I just found out that one of them has a *terrible* reputation (some have used the word "abusive").

I first heard this from my childbirth class teacher, who has worked with "Dr. Abusive" personally (she is a local doula and seems to know every OB and midwife in the area), and then confirmed it by reading stories from a lot of other moms and doulas. Everyone has great things to say about the whole office, except for this doctor. I am absolutely terrified of getting stuck with him now. My husband feels the same way.

How would you approach this subject with your doc, if you were in my shoes? One mom who goes to my OB told him that she planned to leave because she couldn't handle the risk of being stuck with "Dr. Abusive", and he gave her his personal number and promised that he would be the one to deliver her baby...I just don't know if he'd be willing to do the same for me, and I don't want to come right out and ask him to. I am willing to find another OB to avoid "Dr. Abusive", but I'm afraid no one will take me at 34 weeks, and as I said, I really do like my doc. The whole situation is causing me major anxiety. What do I do??

Sorry this is so long...thanks for reading and thanks for your help!

    Sienna

    Noelle

    Mia

BQ: What do you think of the name Eliana Catherine? (el-ee-AH-na)

  • Pelvic pressure and cramping at 30 weeks?

Hi...I am just a day or so shy of 30 weeks pregnant, and I have been having frequent pelvic pain. It's not sharp, unbearable pain...more like pressure and moderate menstrual cramp-like pain. My lower back is hurting, too. The pain has been pretty much constant from last night and into today. I know some discomfort is to be expected at 30 weeks...does this sound normal to you experienced moms? The baby has continued to move. I have a routine appointment scheduled for Friday. Do you think I should call my OB before then?

    Thanks for your help!

  • Help me with sibling ideas, please?

We are due with a little girl, Eliana Catherine, in March. I am thinking ahead to future siblings (we plan on having 2 or 3 more kids, hopefully), and trying to find names that complement our first child's name.

These are some girl names that I like:

    Caroline

Madeline (assuming it's not still this popular in a few years...)

    Mia

    Alexandra

    Anneliese

    Sienna

    And boys:

    Logan

    Miles

    Elliot

    Preston

*Our first boy's middle name will be Jeffrey.

Which of these would sound nice with Eliana Catherine? Do you have other suggestions? Middle name suggestions? Any/all honest opinions are welcome.

Thank you, and happy new year!

  • Weight gain at 29 weeks pregnant?

I'm almost 29 weeks pregnant and despite eating well and exercising a few days per week, I feel and look like a cow. I never had morning sickness, but I have been almost constantly hungry from day 1. I eat very healthy about 90% of the time, but I do enjoy some ice cream or a burger a few times a week. I do NOT eat everything in sight, by any means. My blood pressure is low and I generally feel pretty good, but I'm just getting fatter and fatter --not just the belly, either, but the thighs, the butt...I feel so gross. I've already gained close to 30 pounds, and I have 11+ weeks to go! Has anyone had a similar experience? How much did you gain? Was your baby healthy? Were you able to lose the weight? Please make me feel better!

    Thanks! :)

  • Help me with sibling name ideas, please?

I asked this question last week and hardly got any answers, so I'm hoping for more help this time around.

We're expecting a girl in March, and we plan to name her Eliana Catherine. We hope to have 2 or 3 more, and I'm just looking for ideas for sibling names that complement the name Eliana Catherine. My husband loves the name Logan Jeffrey for a boy, and I like it, but I'm not 100% sold on it (though Jeffrey WILL be the middle name). I have NO idea what to do for another girl's name. Any ideas? We prefer traditional spellings and names that are not in the current top 50, if possible.

    Thanks!

  • What do you think about this name?

I am due in March with our first baby, a little girl. The name we have selected is Eliana Catherine. The last name is Darr (rhymes with car), and Eliana is pronounced "el-ee-AH-na". We like the nickname Ellie, if she wants to use one.

So, I'm looking for some honest opinions of Eliana Catherine Darr. Can you think of anything obvious that kids would make fun of with this name? Do you think it grows up well? What's your overall impression of the name? I don't mind if you don't like the name -- you don't have to agree with me. Please be honest, but polite. Thanks! :)

  • And the winner is...?

If you were nominating names for awards, which ones would you nominate for "2009 Rookie of the Year"?

Please nominate one boy name and one girl name. To qualify, the name doesn't have to be *new*-- just one that you first heard or really took notice of in 2009. For example, my nominees would be Isla (for a girl) and Nolan (for a boy). I had heard them before this year, but I've been seeing them both a lot this year and I really like them. Hope that makes sense.

Anyway, have fun! If you like the game, I'll post similar questions next week. We can give out our own Baby Name Awards (Namies? lol).

  • When does a "misspelling" become...?

Note: I just accidentally posted this in Parenting...oops... :)

So many of us here (myself included) get all bent out of shape about "misspelling" names, so I was just curious to see what folks thought of this...when does a "misspelling" become an accepted alternative spelling? When it hits a baby name book? When it reaches a certain popularity? Never?

For example, it was fairly common to see Allison spelled Alison or Allyson, even decades ago, so I consider those to be accepted alternative spellings...do you feel the same way, or do you consider those to be misspellings? Are all those variations of Kaylee or Braedon* going to be considered the same way in 20 years?

Just curious to see what kind of discussion we can get going on what seems to be a contentious subject... :)

*I am NOT trying to pick on these names, just grabbing two examples that seem to get beat up on a lot over this issue.

  • What do you think of Bethany Noelle Grey?

I freely admit that I am stealing MW&M's question-naming convention, but I'd like to start a name game and I want to read all your answers before it gets flagged. :)

    1) You marry your college sweetheart, _______ and honeymoon in ________.

    2) Just days after you get back from your honeymoon, you are shocked to discover that you are pregnant! Your first child is a boy, with dark hair and hazel eyes. One of his names is a combination of your and your husband's names, and the other relates to the place where you honeymooned. His name is ________ _______.

    3) It takes you a while to adjust to being a mom, but when your son is two, you're ready to try again. This time, you get a little girl with dirty blond hair and blue eyes. Since she is born on March 17, you decide to give her an Irish name, and you want her middle name to honor one of your grandmothers. Your daughter's name is ______ _____.

    4) When your kids are 6 and 4, you decide to try for one more...and get triply blessed! You have two girls and a boy, all with chestnut hair, green eyes, and fair skin. You want their first names to have a special meaning to you, and their middle names to share the same initial, so you call them _____ _____, ______ _____, and _____ _____.

    My answers:

    1) Jason, Hawaii

    2) Lawson Kai

    3) Ciara Dorothy

    4) Arielle Jade, Eliana Juliet and Isaiah James

Thanks for playing! Hope you had fun! :)

  • Middle name madness...?

After getting a lot of wonderful responses a few weeks ago, we've re-narrowed our list of middle names for our daughter-to-be, due in March. Her first name is Eliana (name and spelling are final), last name is Darr (rhymes with "car"). We would like a 2- or 3-syllable middle name to go with it. Our top picks right now are:

    Eliana Catherine

    Eliana Renee / Eliana Renae

Catherine has significance, and we just like how Renee/Renae sounds. What do you think? Please give your opinion on these two names and the Renee/Renae issue (if you like that one better). Other 2- or 3- syllable suggestions are very welcome!

    Thanks, everybody!

  • Starting over...please help with a middle name?

Ok, I know I have posted about this before, but we are no closer to having a middle name for Eliana. I'm not putting up any suggestions because I want to hear everyone else's ideas.

So, what middle names do you think go with Eliana Darr?

We are really struggling to find a middle name, and suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

  • We narrowed down the list, but still need a middle name for Eliana!?

I posted about this a few days ago and y'all helped me narrow down the list. Now I'm hoping for some more help so we can make a decision already. First name is Eliana (El-ee-AH-na), and last name is Darr. Suggestions are welcome!

    Eliana Catherine

    Eliana Caroline

Eliana Florence (I don't think I like this name personally, but my husband is demanding another vote on it, as it's his grandmother's name...any feedback?)

    Thanks!

We are expecting a little girl that we will name Eliana (last name is Darr). We love the first name, but we need help with a middle name! Please let me know what you think of our list so far, and make your own suggestions!

Eliana Dorothy-Grace (Dorothy and Grace are our two grandmothers who passed away)

    Eliana Florence (another family name)

    Eliana Chelsea

    Eliana Caroline

    Eliana Catherine

    Eliana Nicole

    Thanks for your help! :)
