  • Confessions of a Shopaholic?

This movie just pisses me off. I'm a man, and it portrays women as shallow and hateable beyond belief: it's beyond me how a woman could watch this. I saw the Sex and the City movie, as well: at least the women in it had some greater aspirations and somewhat realistic characters.

Beyond that, I think this movie pisses me off even more because of the complete mismatch with the entire concept of the film (even if it was executed well - which it most definitely was not) with the social clime and the economic situation at the time of it's release, with America teetering on the brink of criticality and implosion and the very real threat of economic cataclysm.

This is an incongruity bordering on the insanity of 'raw' or 'bareback' porn in the era of HIV.

Are all of the fans of this movie teenie-boppers who still have daddy's plastic (because it seems like a mature movie for a 12 year old)? Or has America's head really gone so far up it's asshole?

Paul Blart was a godawful movie that broke all records for a January release - but Paul Blart didn't give me the feeling of being slapped in the face by the mockingly malevolent Powers that Be.

  • Space aliens and drugs?

Please tell whether you believe in aliens*, and whether you do or don't, which hallucinogenic drugs (cannabis, psilocybin mushrooms, LSD, peyote, etc.) you have done in your life, and, if you answer yes to both, whether you believed in aliens before you used the drugs.

    *intelligent extra-terrestrial life, not foreigners.

  • Who is your favorite screen actor(s)?

Gary Oldman is by far the best actor alive today,

    BUT:

  • What do you think about Quentin Tarantino?

At his height, in Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown (and to a lesser extent, all of his other work)? This man has such a sense of the aesthetics of language, and of modern art in general - I think he is one of, if not the best film-makers of all time (alongside Darren Aronofsky, Spike Lee, Orson Welles, and Guy Ritchie) and by far the best dialogist of the American English dialect (Guy Ritchie takes the cake for English English dialogue - if Quentin Tarantino was born in Liverpool, he would have been Guy Ritchie).

In the past few years, he's stopped writing his own films and begun attaching his name to lousy slasher films written and directed by other people, and, God help me, his awful collaborations with Robert Rodriguez.

Is Inglourious Basterds going to be his best film yet? Has he run dry? Has he got too rich? Have aliens abducted him and replaced him with an impostor?
