What do you think about Quentin Tarantino?
At his height, in Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown (and to a lesser extent, all of his other work)? This man has such a sense of the aesthetics of language, and of modern art in general - I think he is one of, if not the best film-makers of all time (alongside Darren Aronofsky, Spike Lee, Orson Welles, and Guy Ritchie) and by far the best dialogist of the American English dialect (Guy Ritchie takes the cake for English English dialogue - if Quentin Tarantino was born in Liverpool, he would have been Guy Ritchie).
In the past few years, he's stopped writing his own films and begun attaching his name to lousy slasher films written and directed by other people, and, God help me, his awful collaborations with Robert Rodriguez.
Is Inglourious Basterds going to be his best film yet? Has he run dry? Has he got too rich? Have aliens abducted him and replaced him with an impostor?

I agree that Tarantino has a very special way with words. The way he manipulates dialogue is absolutely genius. It adds humor, it adds depth, and it adds a certain sense of realism that would otherwise have been lost in his films.
From Madonna's big dick fascination to Samuel L. Jackson quoting the same bible passage... it all adds memorable moments to his films.
My favorite is definitely Reservoir Dogs with Pulp Fiction a close second. I liked Jackie Brown and was very entertained by Kill Bill.
But after Kill Bill he did start slapping his name onto really, really bad stuff. Deathproof was so over the top and ridiculous and even though that was kind of the point it ended up just being too stupid to enjoy. Same with Grindhouse and other "lousy slasher films."
I hope he hasn't lost inspiration and his touch... I hope he's just been taking a break and will come back and amaze once again.
I am excited to see Inglorious Basterds and I think this may be one of the more important movies for his career. If it bombs, he won't be taken as seriously anymore and if it does great people will celebrate his return.
I'm hoping we're celebrating his return.

He wrote and directed 'Death Proof' less than two years ago, which isn't that long ago for him. It's too bad you don't like his work with RR, I thought it always yielded enjoyable results. The man writes great dialogue and has made one stone cold classic(Pulp Fiction) but is going to have to become less derivative to be considered one of the greatest film makers of all time. That said, I will always be in line opening day at a new QT flick.

I agree with you that the dialogue in Tarantino films has always been orginal especially in bringing humor to violent situations. His storytelling style in both Resovoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction was groundbreaking as well with flashbacks and overlaping sequences.
It's hard to pick a favorite, but for pure style and story, for me it's Kill Bill (part one.)
For dramatic tension and character development Pulp Fiction.

Quentin Tarantino was just being Quentin Tarantino with Independent films and wanna be film-makers. He's an entrepreneur and loves life and creating his own public relations buzz. He is phenomenal. I believe he will be back
